If I had to rank my top 5 country artists it'd be Waylon Willie Hank Sr Cash Charlie Daniels For my birthday in June my fiance got me a Johnny Cash hat, a Waylon Jennings car decal, a shirt that says "Waylon, Willie, Merle, Hank, Johnny" and a Willie Nelson ticket. Best gift I've gotten in a long time. 1. Waylon 2. Hank Sr 3. Hank Jr. 4. Cash 5. Merle Heck of a birthday gift. I did get an autographed postcard of Johnny Cash some years ago. Pretty awesome. I even had it authenticated. Still hanging on the wall now. Funny thing is that it's probably the only pic I've seen of him wearing blue, but the little brass tag says "Man in Black". I love Zep and agree that III is way underrated. I can't say it is their best and even like some of their later stuff like In Through the Out Door, but I think I and II are strong but overrated when compared to III. III to me showed way more range. I always thought that CD's were a game changer. Not sure the exact specs, but old guy remembers when your typical two sided LP would fit on a 45 minute cassette. CD capacity was more like 75 minutes. I was going to start a thread where you had to list your albums in lifetime order of number of plays. That would be a bit different that what I list here. But if I want to listen to something now, I guess it would be because it is my favorite. Fleetwood Mac - Then Played On The first incarnation of Fleedwood Mac, better than the second IMO Moby Grape - Moby Grape A group which should have been big but they released 3 singles at the same time which confused Radio stations on what to play The Kinks - Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) Many good Kinks albums around this time, difficult even to pick my favorite but Ray is always a great listen, The Strawbs - Acoustic Gold Really sort of an acoustic greatest hits but these were not really hits commercially, just very good songs. Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief English folk rock, always loved this group especially with Sandy Denny Albums don't seem to be a strong song wise as they used to be, but I always wonder if that is just because I don't commit to playing them enough to get hooked on them. I have never listened to Steeleye Span but I just checked out the Wikipedia on them and your may be right that I would like them. I will have to give them a listen. One of the odd things about my list is two of the albums were purchased without having ever heard the group before. I had a copy of Rolling Stone that I was reading in the "Library" when I came to a full page add about Liege and Lief. So I went out and bought it. Loved it. Soon after I bought the other Fairport Albums with Sandy Denny on them. Love them all. The other album was purchased at Twin Fair as a cutout. It was a good place to get albums cheap and I kept seeing this album with a cover of a guy on a horse. After seeing it enough times, I thought I should try it. Really struck gold with that one. It was Then Played On by Fleetwood Mac. Don't know how it happened that I had never heard a song by them before that, but there was a lot of music coming out at the time. They never made it big on US radio. That Moby Grape album is great collection of songs plus the fact the guitars play against each other so well. Guess it takes more than just talent to make it big. I think Cosmic Messenger really got him noticed but a few other standouts to me are Civilized Evil, the Live Lp (Ralph Armstrong is a monster on the bass), and Aurora. If you are bored here is Ponty when he was in the MOI, this probably was towards the very end of his time with this band before he went out on his own. The guy in the plaid pants is pretty good too.
