The Colts' #3 Pick is Very Much in Play - Acquired by the NYJ

Ive been thinking about that quite a bit recently, when weighing the merits of trading up vs using all the picks to build the team. The chance to add a bunch of talent through this draft is enticing, but I keep coming back to 1 thought...

Which move would make the team a true contender for the next decade?

Say we hit on the draft picks and build a strong team that's able to compete with a Tyrod caliber QB - they're able to ride a great defense and some big playmakers on offense...

How long are we actually able to keep that team together in this age of the salary cap and big spending in free agency? 4 years maybe? Then everyone will want to get paid and we will start potentially losing many of those quality players.

Where as if we hit hit on a true franchise QB who can elevate the play of those around him, we could be a contender year in and out for a long time and that QB could hide a lot of holes that would otherwise need to be filled.

I completely disagree..

Franchise QBs are overrated imo. Especially on here.

Keenum, Foles, Bottles and Brady were the starters for the Championship games! The common theme with those teams? Complete team's. Talented players at multiple positions is more important than a franchise QB!

The top 5 (not counting Jimmy G) salary cap hits for next season at the QB position didn't even make the playoffs in 2017!!

The game is changing. We have the best staff we've had in ages. Grab a Keenum or Foles, collect 5 top 60 prospects, continue to make solid FA moves and we're a potential 10+ win team year in n out.

Get your QB get your real QB.

Stop hoping for the once every 4 or 5 years a blah QB makes it to Superbowl

No. This type of thinking is what got the previous administrations fired.

This means two things.  Either Beane is OK with either Darnold or Mayfield, or they really feel Barkley to Browns and non-QB to Giants and are able to get there guy at 3.

If they have two choices in mind than 4 might work as well.

But I have to believe if Buffalo is going all in to move up it's for 1 guy, not two.

Perhaps they think if they move up to 3 or 4 it will be easier to get to 2?

Just say no to Jackson. Watching him the past two years while exciting, it was often maddening as well. Accuracy issues and lack of zip on this throws at the combine should be telling to all.

After yesterday, Spidey, consider this option moot!

go bills!

If Rosen drops a little bit a deal with the Bucs, Bears and Niners can come considerably cheaper

The problem with that thinking is if Rosen is indeed the guy, then you can't take that chance if you truly believe in him.

I don't want to wait until draft night and HOPE the QB we want drops, I want us to get in the position to take our identified QB, otherwise...every trade we made was for nothing (except for dumping salary).

If I had any say I would make the deal to NYG or Indy today. Let's make a statement.

UCLA Pro Day is this Thursday. I would like for us to announce the trade the second it's over. I can't wait another 6 weeks lol.

Which team with an averagish QB makes the playoffs and competes for an SB most years?  Those with the best QB's are CONSISTENTLY competing (Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Roethlisburger, etc).   Brees is an exception but that team is epically mismanaged.   Rodgers goes out with an injury and they miss the playoffs.  While it is true you need more talent, that part is actually easy compared to finding a franchise QB.  Franchise QB is number one, then you surround him with talent

Bills aren't trading up to 12 to not get one of the top picks. Unless they have someone interchangeable like the Eagles did with their choice. They apparently were okay with Goff or Wentz.

If Darnold and say Rosen or Allen go first and second. Either by the teams originally drafting there or via trade, are the Bills going to be okay taking not their #1 guy?

Meaning, Buffalo has to get to #2 at the very least. Three or four are too big of a risk.

For how many years though?

How long do do you think all those guys in Jacksonville defense will be able to stay together before big pay days force a lot of that talent out? 3, 4 more years at most?

I don't know that the game is changing... this is the first year we've seen anything like that with numerous lower/mid tier QBs make the playoffs. Let's see if that trend continues or if it was just a fluke before we say the game has changed. It seems like most years.

Look at this list of the top 10 records of the last 10 years. Almost every single team in the top 10 has a very good franchise QB.

https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/gallery/every-nfl-teams-10-year-record-ranked-32-1-010417

Also, I'm not sure the Eagles make it nearly as far as they did if a Foles plays the whole season. He wasn't nearly as good in the regular season when he came in for Wentz. He got hot in the playoffs. We will never know though so it's a moot point.

Anyway... That Super Bowl ended up being an amazing shootout between 2 QBs who both played one of the best games of their life. Even with the Eagles great regular season defense, they don't win that game without Foles justbplaying out of his mind good.

I live in Indy.  Local sports radio is a buzz over the possible trade with the Bills.  Here is what the locals want in return for 3rd selection:  2 firsts 2018, 2 seconds 2018, third 2018  and first in 2019.  These folks are nuts.

And I'm still waiting for Cindy Crawford to sit on my lap.
