If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid.
billsfan89 replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edumonds is the most polarizing player here. But I will agree that even though I do think he is a net positive on the defense if I am the front office (and thankfully I am not) I am not going to make a massive offer to resign Edumonds. Not because I don't think he adds something to this defense but mainly because I want to have the cap flexibility to keep talent around Josh. I am much more comfortable having a defense be OK than having subpar protection or targets for a franchise QB in his prime (does that feel good to say). Also if I have some space to spend on the defensive side of the ball I would rather spend on the D-line than on the back 7. I am glad they picked up his option to keep him in the fold one more season but after 2022 I make a decent offer (similar to what Milano got) and if he gets more on the market I let him walk and get a cheaper replacement and keep my resources elsewhere on the team. -
That is insanely foolish if they fired someone simply because of a comparison to one team. The comparison doesn't even make sense. The Pats in 2019 were 12-4 compared to the Fins who traded away a lot of players and were 5-11. The Pats led the league in Covid opt outs and took on a lot of dead cap due to Brady leaving in 2020 and still finished with 7 wins. The Pats then got back a lot of talent via Covid opt outs coming back and spent a lot of their cap space on fixing some of their issues. Even then they only finished one game ahead of the Fins. It has to be something else other than a direct comparison that is deeply flawed.

The Giants also are in a position where their next draft is going to be massively important to the next 5-8 years of their franchise. They have the 5th and 7th pick in the draft. They shouldn't hand over those picks to a guy hanging onto dear life. They should start fresh and hand that draft capital over to someone who can try to pull off a true 3 year plan instead of someone two years in and not doing much.

The Flores firing is a real shocker. Flores is coming off of 10-6 and 9-8 seasons. Not lighting it on fire but not all that bad either esp considering the talent the team has. The Fins should have at least stuck with Flores for one more season in order to try and build some continuity. As a Bills fan I do like the "unforced error" but as a football fan it is a bit frustrating to see a coach doing a fairly decent job get canned.

1/9/22 Gameday Bills vs Jets 2nd Half Thread
billsfan89 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Offense looks disjointed but luckily the defense looks good. Can’t let this be a one possession game deep. Need a stop with a score in response. -
This should have been Mitch Trubisky time
billsfan89 replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall
It could still be Mitch time if the Pats lose and Bengals win right? Wouldn’t the Bills be locked in as the 4 seed? -
Jeudy also got an ankle injury week one that hampered his season. I think he has potential to be productive if he gets healthy and in the right situation.

Week 18: Jets at Bills - a W wins the AFC East!
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the best consideration for a dome is the fans. Players in the NFL are the least considerate of the market they play in and most interested in money. The NFL players window to make big money is so short that taking a pay cut to play in a glamour market isn't really what they will do. That's not to say market/weather isn't a factor for free agents but typically money and ability to win are far ahead of it. Buffalo is only that bad weather wise for the back 4-6 weeks of the season and possible playoffs. Since Pegula took over the Bills have had no issues paying the bonuses and such needed to acquire starting caliber players and not overpaying for backups. Players don't have it that bad for most of the season and they can spend the off-season where they want to. But the fans typically don't have this luxury. The weather does impact the attendance and the ability for fans to enjoy the game. So long term I do think a dome is the way to go as it would be the best for the fans. However a dome would add a lot of short term costs to the stadium. Easily hundreds of millions more dollars in construction costs for a dome. I think those costs are just simply not tenable for the city or the Pegulas to afford. -
Broncos are in the market for a new head coach
billsfan89 replied to Pokebball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because that’s typically where new Head Coaches are found. You can’t always go with a retread. Poaching head coaches from college is not the best idea and retreads might not always be ideal. McD was a coordinator before being given the opportunity to take over a team. So it isn’t like the coordinator route hasn’t been proven before. -
Ideal 1st round playoff scenario. What's yours?
billsfan89 replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the Bills are best equipped to stop a high octane passing attack. I am not really scared of any team besides the Colts. The Pats are worrisome a bit as I think they are good defensively and well coached enough to make it one possession game late with a low margin for error but I still think the Bills would win that game. The Chargers and Raiders are pretty one dimensional passing offenses. I think the Bills would fare best against either (although I would take the Raiders over Chargers as I think Carr is worse than Herbert.) Just avoid the Colts honestly is my mentality. Although I think the Bills would be better prepared against the Colts this time around. -
Shaq had a really nice pair of seasons from 2019-2020 and still likely will get the chance to hang around in the league for another year or two at worst. As you said not worth a first round pick but he wasn't a complete waste like Maybin. Provide less than expected value is different from providing no value.

He was actually decent with Miami in 2020. He posted 5 sacks and solid ratings in PFF and other analytics sites. He then bounced around in 2021 being traded from Miami to the Texans then to the Jets. Seems like he hasn't been all that great in 2021. But I honestly wouldn't hate the Bills taking a look at Shaq in 2022. He will only be 28 years old and is not that far removed from being productive for the Bills and Fins. In 2019 for the Bills Shaq was a really good run defender and a decent pass rusher. I think he might be a good low risk high reward type signing.

If I am ranking QB's generally speaking (not by who is having the best season) I would rank them as follows. 1- Aaron Rodgers 2- Patrick Mahomes 3- Tom Brady 4- Josh Allen 5- Russell Wilson (and I think you can debate Wilson over Allen) Josh has the best athletic profile of all of the QB's in the NFL. But Josh has not won in the playoffs in the same way that Mahomes, Rodgers and Brady have which is why I rank them ahead of Josh. I think there is an argument for Russell Wilson who has completely carried a mediocre Seahawks team in recent seasons and Wilson has a solid playoff resume.

Annual Way Too Early Mock Draft '22 edition
billsfan89 replied to thunderingsquid's topic in College Football
I don't think the Bills will be looking at safety in the first three rounds. I likely think the Bills are looking at O-line, DT and DE as their top needs. I know a lot of draft capital has been sunk into the DE position but both Addision and Hughes are free agents who even if one are brought back likely won't be more than rotational players. I don't know how comfortable they are with AJ, Boogie and Groot at DE. I don't think they go DE in the top 2 rounds but in round 3 I can see them going for some depth/options. I think they easily go O-line in round 1 and DT in round 2. Even if they sign back Harrison I still think McD wants to get more physical up the middle and will invest draft capital into doing so. Easily can bring back Phillips and have a 2nd round DT take over Butler's rotational snaps. I did the same thing no trades, my results were. I think the Bills go O-line heavy and then defense heavy in the rounds 3-6. They have to know they need to protect Josh better. -
Josh is the most physically gifted QB in the NFL. He is also a pretty polished player as well. But he needs to refine some of his decision making before he becomes the top QB consistently. He went from having the second best QB season (and a runner up in MVP voting) to being a top 5ish QB this year. Not bad regression but certainly a mild step back. I think Josh's numbers/play got hurt by two factors this season. The first is inconsistent O-line play. Injuries, Covid and shuffling around of players and bad guard play at times all hurt this team's ability to both consistently protect Josh and consistently run block. The O-line in 2020 had some issues but overall was playing better especially pass blocking where they had a very good rating. The second factor is teams adjusting to Josh and some issues with playcalling. I do think the playcalling was hampered by O-line play but there were certainly some non-Oline related issues with playcalling. But teams simply were more willing to force Josh to play "patient" and dink and dunk them to death. Josh at times would just take what the defense was giving him other times he would be hampered and force plays which resulted in turnovers. I feel that if this team can find a way to get better more consistent O-line play along with Josh adjusting to defenses he will be a consistent top 2-3 QB year in and year out. No QB not even Mahomes has his physical gifts.

Jerry Hughes’ Last Regular Season Home Game?
billsfan89 replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have no clue how good Hughes is doing this season. So I have no idea if they will bring him back. To my eye test Hughes hasn't had too much of an impact PFF grades him out well and he had a few decent grades from All 22 earlier in the season. But from watching the games especially the back half of the season it looks like Hughes hasn't made much of an impact. The Bills have an interesting choice to make. Both Addision and Hughes are free agents and there isn't a proven option behind them. Behind Addision and Hughes you have Groot who flashed as a rookie and is a high round pick then you have Boogie and AJ two recent second round picks who haven't done too much. I think the front office brings back one of either Hughes or Addision just to have a proven vet DE but which one is the more productive of the two? -
The Jags really are a poverty franchise if they hire BOB. At least Meyer was really successful in college.

I hope the Bills can retain Levi and Harrison. Both are solid to good starters on good defense. They will command some money but I think this team can work around the cap constraints to find money to give them a fair offer. If they can retain those two along with maybe a handful of other players (some combo of Zimmer, Mac, Addison, Obada and Neil) I think the team will be in a good position for 2022.

538 analysis: Bills underperformed with schedule set up to dominate
billsfan89 replied to beebe's topic in The Stadium Wall
Some of those one possession games in 2020 were games where the Bills were up two possessions late and then a garbage time score with less than 2 minutes left put it to one possession. The Raiders game, second Jets game and first Miami game followed that formula. The only three down to the wire games the team had in 2020 were the Rams, first Pats game and Cardinals. The Bills took 2 out of 3. -
Giants GM Dave Gettleman to retire on Monday
billsfan89 replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Giants really need to move on from Joe Judge next and just do a proper rebuild. Bring in a GM and coach combination that are in step with one another preferable they go with a up and coming coordinator and hand them the keys to the team. They will have 2 top 10 picks that is an opportunity to really properly rebuild. -
This reeks of "old man yells at cloud". Younger coaches are being fairly successful. McVay has a winning record every season he coached the Rams including 4 playoff appearances and three playoff wins including a Super Bowl appearance and he has the team currently in a solid spot to make a run. Also it isn't like in the past there haven't been a ton of young coaches. John Madden was 32 when he was hired as the Raiders coach, Mike Shanahan was 35 when hired, Bill Cower 34, Mike Tomlin 34, Jon Gruden was also 34 when hired. It isn't a new trend to hire guys in their early to mid 30's as coaches.

Week 18: Jets at Bills - a W wins the AFC East!
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jets put up a good fight against Tampa Bay. The Bills can’t turn the ball over 3 times and expect to win. The Bills are by far the better team but they have to play a good game to win comfortably. A flat effort will result in a loss and a so/so effort is going to result in a close game with a small margin for error. I think this is going to be a blow for the Bills with a second straight division title on the line I think they come ready to play. -
Rashaad Penny would fit nicely with the Bills’ offense.
billsfan89 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think Penny is any better than Moss, in fact I would rather have Moss who is good in pass protection and more reliable (along with having some upside being only a fairly healthy second year player) than Penny. With Singletary playing better as of late and Moss/Breida being backup caliber RB's I don't think the Bills need to bring in any RB's. What they have on the roster is good enough. The issue has been and will be O-line play. Look at Najee Harris with the Steelers. The Steelers brought in Harris to improve their run game while not fixing their o-line issues. Harris averaged 4 yards per carry less than the previous years leading running back Conner who averaged 4.3. Yes Harris has a larger work load but the point is that a better RB behind a flawed line isn't the way to go.
