Really makes me miss Roberts steady returning from 2019-2020. -

Bills need to switch to the 4 minute offense just run the ball and throw short over the middle. Nothing fancy you are up three scores with not that much time left on the clock. Getting two first downs grinds this game close to 5 minutes left. You don't need to be fancy here just keep the clock rolling. -

People don't understand the situation and just want to complain. With your defense rolling and the clock on your side punt them in deep. -

I am all fine with them punting but that third and short call is insanely frustrating. Just run the ball on third and short when you are in a 4 minute drill situation. Even if you don't convert you chew up 40 more seconds on the clock and punt them deep. They took a shot one on one with Diggs only to punt it on the next down. -

With the defense playing well and the clock on your side I think a punt is right in this situation. -

The AFC is pretty weak overall, I don't see why the Bills don't have a shot in the playoffs to rep the AFC. Yes this team has issues but I also think if they get some key players back (Spencer Brown and Star) they can get back to being a team that can contend with anyone in the AFC. The Bills needed a confidence boosting game where they beat up on a bad team. If they can punch this game out and Tre White is OK long term I think they are set up fine esp with the "mini-bye" gained by this game being on Thursday. -

Bills still up three possessions not a huge deal but they need the offense to close out the game on this drive. Even a field goal while chewing up a lot of clock puts this game away. Not much to complain about in this game other than the INT's by Josh in the first half which let the Saints hang around but the offense got in gear in Q3. -
Attention traders - you too can buy stock in the Packers
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
These stock sales do allow you to vote on who runs the team and a couple of other fringe benefits. But as a fiscal investment it is not that. You can only sell the stock back to the team for a fraction of the price you paid. I guess if you are a Packers fan it might be cool to buy a few shares (If you can afford it) to vote on the teams operations but that's about it. If the Bills had a similar set up I would easily buy one or two shares but it would be mainly as a novelty. -

Probably the Thursday game against the Saints. -
All-22 Grades for Bills/Jets (The Athletic)
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not shocking to see the secondary, Allen and Diggs getting the highest grades. No super low grades either. -
I think Mac Jones is a good fit for the Pats system but long term I am not sure he is going to be a consistent top 10 QB for the Pats. I see him more as a Carr type QB who will float between being an average to above average starting QB.

I don't mind Moss being active giving the backfield a power look. But I do agree on Vernon Butler, he should be in active, he is bringing no value. Star has been one of the best D-line players on the roster, the rest of the players you might be right but Star has not only been the source of the improved run defense but has added a pass rush element to his game. Star has also restructured his contract to make his cap hit more in line with his production. I wouldn't be surprised to see a first round pick at DT but Star is back next season. -
I think keep him one more year and they draft a Sanders replacement.

It must be insanely frustrating to be a Jets fan. Because it isn’t like the Johnson family isn’t willing to spend money on the team. They are never afraid to go up to the cap and they seemingly are willing to spend for other aspects. I don’t know if Woody Johnson is a meddling owner like James Dolan (who may have finally decided to get out of his own way) or if he is just constantly making bad decisions with coaching/GM hires due to bad luck.

I think Breida brings something good to the backfield. Moss is a power back, Singletary an all around back and Breida brings speed out of the backfield. All three add something to the backfield.

I hate to say it … but the Pats are coming
billsfan89 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Pats are a good team, but I think the Bills are the better team. -
I like Klein as a high end backup. He is a better run defender and pass rusher than Edumonds but he is a liability in the passing game esp compared to Edumonds. I think McD hides Klein's weaknesses well. Against stronger passing offenses McD blitzes Klein more and against weaker passing attacks he puts him into as easy a pass defending assignment as possible. He played well against the Jets but once again it is the Jets. Hoping to see Edumonds back soon.

I think they keep Mitch at center for 2022, he will be 30 in 2022 and that's not old for his position. I think they address the sudden lack of depth along the O-line heavy in the draft and they might draft his long term replacement in 2022 but I don't think they are rushing him out the door when he is an effective center. The only reason I think he is a player they likely would want to replace longer term is the concussion issue. If he didn't have this long term injury issue I think they would be comfortable with him for at least 2-3 more seasons. Overall I think if the Bills are looking at their largest needs going into the 2022 off-season LG and O-line depth will be among their top needs. Projecting out to 2022 I see Dawkins and Brown as the starting tackles, Mitch as the center and D.Williams as the RG. I think they have Mongo back to compete with a rookie drafted up high and he can kick back into being a high end backup if he loses his starting job to hopefully a very good rookie. I then think they bring back Bates and Doyle as they like the versatility Bates brings and I think they view Doyle as a swing tackle long term. I think Ike is likely gone and Ford on the bubble. Which means they will likely dip into the mid-rounds again to find some more Oline depth which I am all for.

LG is the main issue on the O-line when healthy. I see Dawkins as a solid LT, Spencer Brown looks like a good starting caliber RT, when D.Williams kicks inside to RG he is effective there and Mitch at center is an elite pass blocker and he does the leadership and communication things you need from a center even if he is an average at best run blocker. That leaves LG as a question mark in my opinion. Mongo is likely the teams best option at LG which isn't tragic but it leaves something to be desired. I had hopes for Ike or Bates maybe stepping in and being a possible upgrade at LG but that doesn't look to be the case. With Brown and D.Williams anchoring the right side, Mitch an effective center and Dawkins a solid LT I don't see the line when it is at full strength being a massive issue outside of LG. But the main issue in my mind is depth. One injury and this line has to start two lesser players and that's a problem. The depth this line had the past two seasons just isn't there. If I were McBeane I would look to bring in a guard off the street, kick the tires on a guy like David DeCastro or some other guard. Agreed that some posters expect a clean pocket 100% of the time or else everyone on the line is a failure. I also agree that when the line is at full strength it is capable. The question is can they get the line healthy and playing well going into the playoffs. Hopefully Spencer Browns back and Mongo's injury aren't longer term issues and there isn't an injury to any of the other three.

Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
billsfan89 replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't get the hate on Edumonds. I get maybe not wanting to sign him to a massive contract since that means there are less cap resources to dedicate to other positions. But I don't think he is a net negative to the defense. I think he is at worst an above average player at the position. He is really effective in coverage and decent against the run when he has decent play in front of him. I think he is a better fit for a modern NFL defense than many give him credit for. -
11/14/21 Postgame Thread: Bills at Jets
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
A fantastic game for the Bills. The first half up until that last TD drive was a bit shaky. But once they got that Diggs TD to end the first half and the fumble to keep the Jets from getting a field goal or more it was over. The Bills cashed in early in the second half and put it away quickly in the third quarter. The defense was spectacular as was the Special Teams unit who may have had their best game of the season arguably. Now that being said the Jets are not a very good team. They are one of the worst teams in the NFL and playing with a backup QB. You have to beat the Jets going away that's nothing to sneeze at. But I am very curious to see how they hold up against a solid Indy team as a true temperature check for this team. Indy has a fantastic running back, a very good defense, solid special teams unit and a decent QB. They have some weaknesses but they are a tough matchup against the Bills. Hopefully Star comes back and that solidifies the run defense and the offense finds a good gameplan in the first half. Good to pile up this win but next week we will really see what this Bills team can do. -
The defense didn't really have much negatives, they had a little bit of a vulnerability against the run for a quarter of the game (and this was without Star their best interior run defender). All players in my opinion ranged from fantastic to solid. The Jets have a bad offense the Bills took advantage of it and only let up 3 points when it counted.
