With the way this game is being officiated I wouldn't want to risk a bad call giving them a first down. -

With how many bad penalties have been called I wouldn't want to take the risk of a bad call giving them a cheap first down. I think letting them settle for a 55 yarder was the right call given the circumstances. -

Officiating in the NFL has never been "good" at least I have never heard fans in any sport praising officiating. But the NFL needs to try and do what the NBA did this season and find a way to lessen the refs impact on games. The only issue is that when the refs ease up on enforcement then the players take advantage so it is not an easy balance. -

It's still very early in the game... but the Bills could be up more if they weren't making some key mistakes and letting the Jags hang around. -

Bills letting the Jags hang around not a good start to the game. But hoping this turns into a similar game as last week where the Bills pull away. They just need to go into the half at least up two scores and in control of the game then they can hopefully bury them in the second half. -
Raiders make the most on field sense. He would be one of their top targets but not their only top target and they have a decent QB. But I am not sure a Raiders team that has endured a lot of controversy this season is going to want to take on a possible distraction like Odell. KC makes on field sense and they never back away from having controversy but does Odell want to be the third option in a passing attack? NOLA makes sense from their perspective but does Odell think he can flourish with that QB situation same can be said for the Pats situation. Bucs don't really need WR help so the possibility of a distraction serves them no benefit. I would say that the Packers make the most sense. They have plenty of targets for Odell and a QB and contention situation that makes it appealing for him and the Packers need WR help. However the Packers can be conservative as an organization. If I had to guess it would be the Raiders with KC and Green Bay not too far off.

All-22 Grades for Bills/Dolphins (The Athletic)
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not shocked by the grades besides Mongo who I thought was not putting in the best game. Still interesting to see these All-22 breakdowns. -
Feliciano to IR; Jamil Douglas signed to 53

Hoping when Spencer Brown comes back they kick D.Williams inside and put Ike in at LG. I don't know why so many dislike Ike but I thought he played well last season. I know he isn't setting the world on fire but he can at least play decently from what I saw last season. Mongo is not a tragic guard but his play has ranged from below average to backup caliber. Hopefully he just needs time to heal an injury and can come back. -
I was good with the team signing Haack as a punter factoring in his holding being much improved over Bojo. But Haack's punting in Miami while not elite was above average. If he was a great holder and an above-average punter I would take that over a great punter like Bojo who is a bad holder. Right now Haack's punting ranks in the mid to late 20's not good at all hopefully he rebounds the rest of the season.

Breaking News: Odell Beckham is set to be released
billsfan89 replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unless the Bills have multiple long term injuries at WR I don't think they will have any interest. The Bills can't claim him off waivers as it would be a 7.25 million dollar cap hit. I doubt because of that fact that anyone will claim him off waivers. I suspect that KC, NOLA, and possibly Green Bay will be interested on a minimum deal. It will be interesting to see where exactly he goes and what impact he has. -
There is very little chance the Bills coaching staff is intact in 2022. That's just the price of success. It was very fortunate that the Bills were able to sustain the same staff after a very successful 2020 season, I do not think lightning will strike twice. It's not like the Bears job is a disaster either. Fields is a promising young QB and there is some talent elsewhere on the roster and Chicago is a glamour market.

I will probably say a combo of the Guards on the interior O-line and Beasley for the offense. In order to keep Josh consistently protected and the ground game going the guard play will be pivotal. Beasley will again be key in helping the offense to "take what the defense is giving you." As far as defensively I think it comes down to Hughes, Oliver and Rousseau. All three will have to show up and be monsters against an average at best O-line.

Tyler Bass named AFC ST Player of the Month
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wouldn't hate McBeane drafting a punter fairly early in the late 4th round or so. Haack is a below average punter thus far and isn't cheap (he isn't a uber expensive punter but he is paid as the 12th highest punter and is performing more in line with a bottom 10 punter) and punters can lose you games. Spending a mid round pick to solidify the other kicking position for several seasons is a good idea. I wouldn't go up into the first three rounds for this kid but if he is a special punter why not take him in the late 4th? I also feel like punters being taken up fairly high tend to work out more so than kickers taken up high. In 95 Todd Sauerburn was taken in the 2nd round and was an elite punter, Bryan Anger was taken in the third round and he has been a fairly good NFL punter, and Dustin Colquitt was drafted in the third round and was a fantastic punter. Now there are some exceptions to this, the Packers drafted a punter fairly high in 2004 and it didn't work out. But I feel the hit rate on punters is higher for some reason. Either way just have to hope Haack is decent enough for the rest of this season. -
Week 9: Bills at Jags. Predict the score
billsfan89 replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall
35-17 Bills. I think this one follows a comfortable formula. I think the Bills go up 21-7 at the half then in the third quarter the Bills outscore the Jags 7-3 and then ice the game off with a TD early in the 4th and give up a garbage time TD. I think given how sluggish the team looked in the first half of the Miami game they come out looking for blood early. -
Good ownership does wonders. Even though Pegula got it wrong with Rex and Whaley he still gave them the resources to be successful. Then on his second hire he fully buys into what McD is selling and not only hires him with a coherent 3 year plan but also hires the GM he wants paired with him.
-
If he gets cut in season I think he goes to an offense where he can get targets and possibly win. If he gets cut in the off-season I do wonder what he ends up doing. I think he probably won’t get a huge long term deal. It probably would likely be a one year deal somewhere with a WR need and a contenting team.
-
I am assuming that is happening in a scenario where they release him just to get him out of the locker room. Obviously that hasn’t happened yet but it has been rumored that they might just cut him.

Derrick Henry potential season ending injury
billsfan89 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
A 6 week timetable for recovery puts his return in Mid-December and then you are likely looking at a limited snap count for 2-3 weeks before he is 100% which puts him on a time table to return for the playoffs at close to full strength. That's likely a best case scenario as 10 weeks pretty much puts him out the whole regular season and at best you get back a limited version for the playoffs. Overall this is probably a scenario where if he approaches the higher end of his recovery you might have him back for the playoffs close to full strenght. But if you are getting him on the back end of that recovery time table you are better off shutting him down. -
I would not be shocked to see Odell go to KC. They desperately need a WR2 as outside of Hill and Kelce they don't have much. Also KC is in a desperate situation so they are willing to take the locker room chance. I also wouldn't not be shocked to see him join Green Bay as the on field need is there but I am not sure GB is as desperate to take the locker room chance. Not sure where else he could go that would be a fit. Maybe the Raiders but with the Ruggs and Gruden situations they probably don't want to add drama. Either way I still think Odell is a good player not great any more but in the right situation he can be a productive WR.

He was dealing with an injury that he had last season. Not sure if it was poorly managed or just bad luck that it didn't heal in time. Saints still have been formidable without him all year but without him coming back and Jamis out it will be a challenge. I thought Byrd's issue was that he got hurt his first year in NOLA and was just never the same player along with getting banged up almost every year he played there. I wasn't aware of any effort issues with Byrd in NOLA.

Baldy's breakdown of the week 8 squishing
billsfan89 replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
When teams are going soft 2-deep zone to keep Josh from breaking off big plays Beasley (esp when Knox is out) is going to have to get 10+ targets. When you have to take what the defense is giving you Beasley is going to have to be one of if not the top target for Josh. Beasley is able to eat soft defenses lunch underneath and that is able to chip away at defenses. Glad to see Beasley "back" with that huge game. -
How do you deep down, really feel about this defense?
billsfan89 replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
The defense is very very good and is possibly a top 5 defense in the league. The defense is good as is. The interior Oline remains my only concern for this team.
