The O-line in my opinion isn't a problem especially since Brown has taken over at RT and D.Williams has kicked inside. Dawkins and Brown are a very good tackle combo thus far, Mitch is a high-end pass blocking center who does the little things and brings leadership to the center position, D.Williams has played well at guard thus far and even Mongo is decent at LG. I think the roster is so strong that having a player like Mongo looking OK appears like it is a weak link. Whereas in the past when the team would be rolling out 5-6 subpar starters having a guy being OK was viewed as not being an issue. Whereas when you are very strong and deep across the board a player being "OK" can look like a weakness and an area in need of an upgrade. IF The Bills had the cap space to bring in Norwell I would be all for it. But the Bills just don't have the cap space nor is there any other good O-line talent that would make sense to be out on the market. Going with the current line isn't an issue in my opinion. The worst player on the line (Mongo) is still a respectable starting caliber player.

The Bills were better of for their timeline to draft a QB in 2018 as opposed to 2017. Yes the Bills could have benched Mahomes for year one and stuck with Tyrod a decent vet. But in 2018 the Bills had to eat a lot of dead cap related to Dareus, InCog and Wood's retirement and other various bad cap contracts either being cut, traded or expiring. In 2018 the Bills simply were not equipped to put a competitive team around a QB. It was far better they were starting with a rookie in 2018 than having a player on his second year thrown to the wolves. By 2019 the Bills were in a position to surround a QB with talent and having Josh only being on his second year of a rookie deal was the perfect timing. Add in getting White and Edumonds to help build a defense and you have a better recipe for success.

Not sure why people want to push Morse out the door. He is one of the top pass blocking centers in the league and does all the communication and leadership aspects that a center needs to do. I know he is not the best in the running game but he isn't tragic there either. I think some people don't realize the value he brings.

Richie Incognito was a Pro-Bowl guard every year when he was here and for a three-year stretch (2015 to 2017) he was one of the high-end guards in the league during that three-year run. He wasn't a "homegrown" player but he was a complete reclamation project in 2015. He was suspended by the Dolphins in 2013 after a bullying scandal and then out of the league. In fact InCog was really a key cog in breaking the drought in 2017 and his absence in 2018 really hurt the team. I wouldn't say he was better than Ruben Brown who was a complete monster for several seasons. But I would say that InCog was definitely the best guard in the drought era surpassing Levitre who was also good but not great.

Spain was great year one, Mongo was signed on an affordable contract and in my opinion has played at a starting caliber level. Ike has been developed into a high end backup and Bates can play guard in a pinch at an effective level. They made a massive whiff on letting Teller go and resigned Spain to a deal they aborted quickly. So while it hasn’t been great I would say the evaluation and development of guards is decent. Not the best but not tragic either.

Will lack of Tough Games hurt the Bills?
billsfan89 replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills schedule is not as "soft" as many think. Yes the next three games the Bills should be heavily favored. The Dolphins, Jets and Jags are all not good teams. But after that the Bills schedule gets tough. Breaking down the schedule after the next three games I don't see any game the Bills will be heavily favored in for a long time. Week 11- Colts - The Colts are playing a lot better. They are getting back healthy and Wentz is playing well. Right now not a soft team. Week 12- At Saints - A Thursday night game away against a solid team. NOLA sports a strong defense and a creative offense that might have Michael Thomas back. Week 13- Patriots - The Pats have 3 wins and they took the Bucs and Cowboys down to the wire. They are a well coached team playing hard not a gimmie. Week 14 - At Bucs - Tampa is the Super Bowl favorite in my opinion. Away this is a game no one will doubt is difficult. Week 15- Panthers - Panthers have faded after a hot start. This one is TBD as the Panthers are hard to read at the moment. Week 16- At Patriots - Away game against a tough division rival. Not an easy game. Week 17 - Falcons - Falcons stand at 3-3 right now but have piled up wins against both NYC teams and a pathetic Fins team. Right now this could be a heavily favored game but we will see. Week 18- Jets - This one will likely favor the Bills heavily to end the season unless it is meaningless for the Bills. That's a really difficult Week 11-14 stretch in my opinion and another not so easy game week 16. And the Panthers in week 15 might not be so easy. -
Tailgating at MetLife Stadium - Where da Bills fans be?
billsfan89 replied to ProcessTruster's topic in The Stadium Wall
Getting to Met Life can be a pain in the ass but if you want something to do after the game check out the American Dream mall also located near the stadium. It has an Aquarium, Indoor Ski Slope, Indoor Water Park and a lot of other cool things worth checking out especially since you will be right there anyway. -
What an ugly game. Wentz is starting to look better as are the Colts in general. The Colts are slowly working their way back to being a relevant team. Now only one game below .500.

Bills sign UB product OL Evin ksiezarcyk to PS
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Always love seeing teams pick up "local" talent. He can't be worse than Hart. -
The NFC is more top heavy and the AFC more middle heavy. 12 out of 16 teams in the AFC have 3 wins or more with 7 teams above .500 and one team at .500. The NFC has 10 teams with 3 wins or more with only 5 teams above .500 and 2 teams at .500. The NFC has basically 5 elite teams standing out above the rest then a small middle class of teams and then a really bad bottom end. The AFC only has really 4 outright bad and irrelevant teams. The rest are pretty competitive even if the conference is a bit less top heavy. In the end I think both conferences are about even. Last year the AFC was wayyyyyy stronger than the NFC so it isn't like things don't shift so sudden in the NFL. Long term I think the AFC is much more loaded at the young QB position which will foster more competitive dominance for the AFC. Josh, Watson (if he ever plays), Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Herbert are 5 elite level young QB's in the conference and Joe Burrow is coming on strong in Cincy. The AFC also has Mayfield, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Mac Jones all with a level of potential not to mention Carr and Tanny who are solid QB's in their primes. Whereas in the NFC I don't see that same level of young QB's. Kyler Murray and Dak are fantastic but what else is there as far as younger QB's? Daniel Jones has been very mixed and not in a good organization, Darnold looked to be doing good but has faded and the jury is still out on Justin Fields and Trey Lance. The top NFC QB's are Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers both older QB's after that you have Wilson and Stafford in their early 30's and then Murray and Dak as the younger QB's. Whereas in the AFC you have 5-6 young QB's playing at an elite level and a lot more that could come up.

It's odd because the Jets ownership seems to be willing to spend money. They just can't seem to get organized at the top. I wonder if it is a case of the Johnson family meddling too much or the ownership not having the right people around them.
-
It speaks to the depth of the team. But I do think that they need to get Gabe more involved in the absence of Knox.
-
They probably will use more 4 wide but I still expect them to try and run their offense with Sweeney. But I do see Davis getting more snaps and targets, the Bills would be foolish not to adjust their gameplan to feature him more and the TE less.
-
We will see how good Sweeney is in the next two games and then can see if the team can make any marginal upgrades to the backup TE spot. As far as RB I don't see the need. The team has two young and healthy backs who are producing fairly well. I do think Sanders from Philly would be a slight upgrade but I don't see the organization coughing up a decent pick to modestly upgrade the RB position. Guard is a spot that I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade. I am not as harsh on Mongo as many here are. I think Mongo is a decent starting caliber guard. But he is average at best. If this team were to somehow find a good guard out on the market that could plug into Mongo's spot that would be great. I think Mongo off the bench is a fantastic add as he can play guard or center better than most bench players. But the only guard on the market possibly is Norwell who has a huge cap number that isn't compatible with the Bills cap situation.

The Bills restructured the base salaries to bonuses for Diggs, White, Dawkins and Poyer along with redoing Mitch, Addison and Butler who took pay cuts. I am not sure who else on the roster they can restructure to free up enough space to accomodate a 7 million dollar a year salary. I am honestly asking since I am not NFL cap expert and maybe there is a way to free up the space. I would easily welcome a trade for Norwell as it lines up with the teams needs and lines up for the Jags to trade him. But the Bills cap and Norwell's salary is just not something that reconciles to me.

Boomers: Does Derrick Henry remind you of Cookie Gilchrist?
billsfan89 replied to John Gianelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
He reminds me of Adrian Peterson but bigger with less receiving skill. Both were angry downhill runners with breakaway speed and rather large bodies. AP was a bit smaller at 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighing in at 217 pounds. Henry is listed at 6 foot 3 247 pounds about 30 pounds heavier and while he is an inch taller that inch isn't accounting for 30 pounds. Although AP was a much better receiver even if Henry isn't bad at catching passes. I would give Henry the edge in terms of running the ball between the tackles. That's my comparison. -
They do happen but a lot has to line up in order for it to occur. First a team needs cap space and the Bills don't have it. Secondly the needs of a contending team have to line up with a team who has a productive player that is either older or on the final year of their deal. I am not saying it can't happen but it isn't as easy or as common as it is in other sports.

Nothing is for certain in the world of sports especially football. The Bills will be a very good team or at least a good team for the foreseeable future. But right now this team they have could be the chance to win a Super Bowl. But the NFL is an odd place when it comes to in season trades. In the NBA, NHL and MLB if you need that last piece for your team you can usually find it. If you need a piece to add to your bench or a little bit of shooting in the NBA you can find it if you are willing to give up a pick or a young player or take back some salary. In the NHL and MLB there are always sellers willing to take back picks and prospects for that one player you feel gives you the edge for a stretch run. But the NFL isn't always filled with sellers at the trade deadline nor is the cap flexible to allow teams to make trades. The Bills have 3 million in cap space that's not a lot to work with on top of that they have no glaring needs that they would sell out for. If there was a piece that they could add I would be all for it, but it just doesn't appear to line up that way at this moment.

Which realistic trade options should the Bills target?
billsfan89 replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have seen Norwell as a big wish for the fans. While I think he would help the O-line and his team would likely listen to an offer since their season is on life support and might be irrelevant by the trade deadline I don't see a feasible way to get a 15 million dollar cap hit fitting in with the Bills' meager cap space. I don't see any other guard out on the market that is both affordable, would make an impact, and is on a team that would consider trading them. Miles Sanders is another name that is more reasonable cap-wise and his team is also on life support, but I don't see him as being a difference-maker. Our RB tandem is producing good results and Sanders isn't a dynamic player that much better than what the team has. I don't see the team giving up a decent pick to get slightly better at RB. I just don't see any fits out on the market right now. -
Which realistic trade options should the Bills target?
billsfan89 replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure the Bills make any moves absent of injuries. I think Guard is a place where I would like to see some help but good Oline play is not usually available and I don’t see any low cost quality players being made available on the market. Also D Williams is playing well there and Mongo is a starting caliber player there so you need to have a quality acquisition to make an impact. CB 2 is mentioned but I think Levi is turning in his best season so any acquisitions there would be purely for depth in my opinion and I am not sure the organization views there being a need for depth there. So in the end I think barring a long term injury I think the Bills roll with what they have. I just don’t see the market and needs of the team lining up. -
All-22 Grades for Bills/Titans (The Athletic)
billsfan89 replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just an odd game looking further back on it, the Bills offense ended up in a shootout mainly because of a big play given up to Henry and some bad redzone inefficiency. The defense came out strong but faded fast. Just have to chalk it up to a tough road loss. Luckily they get a bye week after a physical game. -
Emanuel Sanders - is What Was Lost Worth the Gain ?
billsfan89 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
Sanders not only has been productive on the field but he is also the only player on the team with a Super Bowl ring and a ton of playoff experience (I believe he has played in 3 Super Bowls) only Hyde matches him in terms of career playoff games. That off the field mentality has helped the team massively. I loved John Brown in 2019 but he showed his injury form in 2020 and had a high cap hit. Sanders is more reliable and brings off field factors that are positive. -

The Bills offense is still one of the best in the league. The Bills have adjusted their offense and are still working out the kinks a bit but that’s to the teams benefit long term. -
Bills TE Dawson Knox out a few weeks following surgery on broken hand
billsfan89 replied to muppy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good timing for the bye to limit the amount of games he missed, should hopefully not miss too much time. -
He has been good this season, he wasn’t that impactful in the Titans game but for the most part he has been a good disruptive player in the early going. There is a reason that he is leading a deep defensive line in snaps. Don’t let the lack of flashy stats fool you.
