It's definitely possible that the Steelers can generate the disruption needed but the KC defense is also playing a lot better than they were to start the season. So you are also going to have to get some luck on offense from the Steelers too. Because even if Watt and company are disruptive defensively I still think KC scores 21+ points. So you have to then get some additional help on offense to score at least a few TD's. All is possible but it is a heavy ask.

It is possible if TJ Watt takes over the game and constantly is disrupting the KC offense and the Steelers get a lucky turnover or two on top of a better than expected game from a player or two on offense. That's a lot to go right on one side of the ledger but it isn't impossible.

The Giants needed to move on from Judge. In two years he showed very little progress. On top of that the Giants have the 5th and 7th picks in the draft. That type of draft capital is pretty rare and can set up a franchise for the next 5-8 years. You can't hand that over to a coach that could easily be out the year after. Start fresh and reset the clock with a new hire.

What Heath Farwell said about Bills punter Matt Haack
billsfan89 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Haack outside of the Jets game has in my opinion been a mid-level punter. But if he is having a positive impact on the kicking game I would take having better field goal kicking and living with average punting. However Haack can't have another Jets like game in the playoffs. He has to have learned his lesson to just boot punts in the wind. -
Shaq Lawson possibly returning to Buffalo
billsfan89 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Given that the Bills go up against a run heavy offense in the WC round and could possibly end up facing the Titans again later on it wouldn't hurt to get a player that fits the system and sets the edge well against the run. But I trust the front office and they should know if Shaq fits what they want to do in the playoffs. -
That means there is a very good chance Judge is gone. Most likely a new GM is going to want to bring in his coach and "reset the clock" so to speak. As I have mentioned when you have the 5th and 7th picks in the draft you are in a pivotal point where you are going to be setting up the next 5-8 years of your franchise and that shouldn't be in the hands of a coach who might be fired one season from now.

The Patriots are a team that will always be a “tough” out. Teams that have a good defense, solid special teams, can run the ball and don’t turn the ball over are always going to be competitive in the regular season and play close games in the playoffs. But unless Mac Jones develops into a more dynamic QB they are always going to be hampered in the playoffs.

Haack really cost this team against the hapless Jets. That's not to say that he is the sole reason that the game was uncomfortable until late but he certainly was a major factor in letting the Jets "hang around". I can forgive shanking the first punt twice. I don't know if his ST coach showed him a new way to punt in the wind and was attempting to do that. So it might be on the ST coach in some sense. However he at least got on the right track after muffing the punt and was able to punt decently into the wind. I wouldn't change at this point mainly because he is still a really good holder for Bass and is there anyone else out there that would be that much better? I hope that Haack at least learns from the Jets game. The team survived and got a comfortable win and Haack got somewhat on track after the first half struggles punting at least respectably.

Coaches get fired for one of three reasons 95% of the time. The first is losing in the regular season consistently. McD has won 10 games or more 3 seasons straight. The second is losing the locker room. By no accounts has that happened. The final reason is being unable to get a team over the hump in the playoffs. McD has a 2-3 record in the playoffs. Not lighting the world on fire but looking at the context of those 3 losses it is hard to say the team needs a new voice. If three years from now the Bills have constant playoff failures then you have the conversation about is McD the guy. But right now he has completely turned around this team and is going to be the coach for the foreseeable future.

If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid.
billsfan89 replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edumonds is the most polarizing player here. But I will agree that even though I do think he is a net positive on the defense if I am the front office (and thankfully I am not) I am not going to make a massive offer to resign Edumonds. Not because I don't think he adds something to this defense but mainly because I want to have the cap flexibility to keep talent around Josh. I am much more comfortable having a defense be OK than having subpar protection or targets for a franchise QB in his prime (does that feel good to say). Also if I have some space to spend on the defensive side of the ball I would rather spend on the D-line than on the back 7. I am glad they picked up his option to keep him in the fold one more season but after 2022 I make a decent offer (similar to what Milano got) and if he gets more on the market I let him walk and get a cheaper replacement and keep my resources elsewhere on the team. -
That is insanely foolish if they fired someone simply because of a comparison to one team. The comparison doesn't even make sense. The Pats in 2019 were 12-4 compared to the Fins who traded away a lot of players and were 5-11. The Pats led the league in Covid opt outs and took on a lot of dead cap due to Brady leaving in 2020 and still finished with 7 wins. The Pats then got back a lot of talent via Covid opt outs coming back and spent a lot of their cap space on fixing some of their issues. Even then they only finished one game ahead of the Fins. It has to be something else other than a direct comparison that is deeply flawed.
-
The Giants also are in a position where their next draft is going to be massively important to the next 5-8 years of their franchise. They have the 5th and 7th pick in the draft. They shouldn't hand over those picks to a guy hanging onto dear life. They should start fresh and hand that draft capital over to someone who can try to pull off a true 3 year plan instead of someone two years in and not doing much.

The Flores firing is a real shocker. Flores is coming off of 10-6 and 9-8 seasons. Not lighting it on fire but not all that bad either esp considering the talent the team has. The Fins should have at least stuck with Flores for one more season in order to try and build some continuity. As a Bills fan I do like the "unforced error" but as a football fan it is a bit frustrating to see a coach doing a fairly decent job get canned.

1/9/22 Gameday Bills vs Jets 2nd Half Thread
billsfan89 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Offense looks disjointed but luckily the defense looks good. Can’t let this be a one possession game deep. Need a stop with a score in response. -
This should have been Mitch Trubisky time
billsfan89 replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall
It could still be Mitch time if the Pats lose and Bengals win right? Wouldn’t the Bills be locked in as the 4 seed? -
Jeudy also got an ankle injury week one that hampered his season. I think he has potential to be productive if he gets healthy and in the right situation.

Week 18: Jets at Bills - a W wins the AFC East!
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the best consideration for a dome is the fans. Players in the NFL are the least considerate of the market they play in and most interested in money. The NFL players window to make big money is so short that taking a pay cut to play in a glamour market isn't really what they will do. That's not to say market/weather isn't a factor for free agents but typically money and ability to win are far ahead of it. Buffalo is only that bad weather wise for the back 4-6 weeks of the season and possible playoffs. Since Pegula took over the Bills have had no issues paying the bonuses and such needed to acquire starting caliber players and not overpaying for backups. Players don't have it that bad for most of the season and they can spend the off-season where they want to. But the fans typically don't have this luxury. The weather does impact the attendance and the ability for fans to enjoy the game. So long term I do think a dome is the way to go as it would be the best for the fans. However a dome would add a lot of short term costs to the stadium. Easily hundreds of millions more dollars in construction costs for a dome. I think those costs are just simply not tenable for the city or the Pegulas to afford. -
Broncos are in the market for a new head coach
billsfan89 replied to Pokebball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Because that’s typically where new Head Coaches are found. You can’t always go with a retread. Poaching head coaches from college is not the best idea and retreads might not always be ideal. McD was a coordinator before being given the opportunity to take over a team. So it isn’t like the coordinator route hasn’t been proven before. -
Ideal 1st round playoff scenario. What's yours?
billsfan89 replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the Bills are best equipped to stop a high octane passing attack. I am not really scared of any team besides the Colts. The Pats are worrisome a bit as I think they are good defensively and well coached enough to make it one possession game late with a low margin for error but I still think the Bills would win that game. The Chargers and Raiders are pretty one dimensional passing offenses. I think the Bills would fare best against either (although I would take the Raiders over Chargers as I think Carr is worse than Herbert.) Just avoid the Colts honestly is my mentality. Although I think the Bills would be better prepared against the Colts this time around. -
Shaq had a really nice pair of seasons from 2019-2020 and still likely will get the chance to hang around in the league for another year or two at worst. As you said not worth a first round pick but he wasn't a complete waste like Maybin. Provide less than expected value is different from providing no value.

He was actually decent with Miami in 2020. He posted 5 sacks and solid ratings in PFF and other analytics sites. He then bounced around in 2021 being traded from Miami to the Texans then to the Jets. Seems like he hasn't been all that great in 2021. But I honestly wouldn't hate the Bills taking a look at Shaq in 2022. He will only be 28 years old and is not that far removed from being productive for the Bills and Fins. In 2019 for the Bills Shaq was a really good run defender and a decent pass rusher. I think he might be a good low risk high reward type signing.

If I am ranking QB's generally speaking (not by who is having the best season) I would rank them as follows. 1- Aaron Rodgers 2- Patrick Mahomes 3- Tom Brady 4- Josh Allen 5- Russell Wilson (and I think you can debate Wilson over Allen) Josh has the best athletic profile of all of the QB's in the NFL. But Josh has not won in the playoffs in the same way that Mahomes, Rodgers and Brady have which is why I rank them ahead of Josh. I think there is an argument for Russell Wilson who has completely carried a mediocre Seahawks team in recent seasons and Wilson has a solid playoff resume.
