HappyDays Posted August 9 Posted August 9 (edited) 8 minutes ago, BuffaloBillyG said: I thought White was ok. All the passes on him were on plays in the short area in front of him. He didn't get beat over the top and was a willing tackler. Something he really wasn't in his first sting here. I think if he can keep plays in front of him and be physical, he will do ok. Man I don't know. That comeback he gave up to Wandale Robinson was scary. My worry with him has been that he just no longer has the athletic ability to transition and close on plays like that. If opposing offenses catch on they're going to eat him alive. This scheme has made the likes of Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson function at CB2 but we had prime Hyde and Poyer there to cover for them. The secondary as a whole right now remains a big concern for me. We don't even know how Bishop looks, him and Rapp can't stay healthy, Hamlin still has major athletic limitations that showed up again today, and CB2 remains a weakness unless Hairston comes back strong. It is Benford and a lot of unknowns. Hopefully the pass rush is as good as I think it can be to make up for the coverage. Edited August 9 by HappyDays 2 4 Quote

The reasonable (not homer) draft analysis I heard on him is that he is a freak athlete but extremely raw. Could be great...but don't expect much of him this year. Quote

Unacceptable It really is man, this is our time and we're consistently losing by the same bs, the same way, it's like a good offense knows the exact plays we're running! Switch it up McDermott ! I appreciate everything he has done but man it's the same ***** every year , can't keep defending him. Just like his defenses can't defend a solid offense Edited August 9 by JerseyBills Quote

Off sides, didn't hold the edge on a big Giants running play and by the end of the 4th quarter he was out of gas and just gave up at the line of scrimmage. 1 Quote
zow2 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 As much as i’ve ripped on Trubisky over the years (i’m just not a huge fan) i’ll give him an arrow up. He looks like he has command of what he’s seeing out there. -And if Josh misses any time i think he can carry the mail for a couple games. 2 Quote
H2o Posted August 9 Posted August 9 I know that everything is as vanilla as it gets during the Preseaon on both side of the ball, but ⬇️ on Bobby Babich's coaching and play calling. 1 Quote

He looked awful against the Giants 1s then they left the game and Trubisky looked ok against back ups. Still sucks 1 1 Quote

I too would feel more comfortable if we had 2 All Pro level safeties playing behind him. Mask more of the physical limitations he has these days. But, unfortunately, we have what we have. It's going to be up to the staff to scheme him some extra help sometimes and the pass rush to make sure he doesn't have to cover for too long. Quote

I'm rooting for him but today's performance made me revert to my original thought that he is unfortunately just washed. He cannot be trusted to cover quick WRs 1v1. Giants picked on him repeatedly. Not that Dane Jackson was any better. I hope Hairston gets back healthy soon and can figure things out quickly because I fear CB2 will be a major weakness for us this year unless he saves the day. As others have mentioned the primary DL players impressed me, most notably Bosa, Walker, and Sanders. Bosa's potential in this defense if he can stay healthy is tantalizing. He's flown under the radar but today showed flashes of his old self and at his best he was an elite EDGE. We may have gotten a steal there. Knock on wood. I don’t know if I’d lose sleep over CB2 being a weakness on the team.. But I 100 percent know that Christian Benford is the most important player on this team not named Josh Allen. Both our Safeties were out today. There was zero game planning. Tre will ramp it up and give us a solid CB 2 role. But it is frustrating to see some of our familiar issues on D lingering - no pass rush, can’t get off the field on 3rd and long, can’t recognize a freaking screen. PRESEASON PLEDGE! Not going to overreact. Merely these are observations not judgement lol. Still believe the D will be significantly better. 1 3 Quote

EmotionallyUnstable Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Some that haven’t been mentioned: Arrow Up: Cam Lewis- I thought he tackled well and showed enough that he can be reliable in that safety role while offering some versatility at nickel. Lundt - thought he was solid in pass pro and had some good run blocks, primary at LT. Idk if there is a spot for him without having versatility. Seems athletic enough that I wonder if there is a future there for him as 6OL Arrow Down: Ulofoshio - with Specture being released I thought he had a shot to push for the 53 again this year but it appears he is down the depth chart behind Keonte Jenkins. Does he give enough on ST? Ja’Marcus Ingram - Another guy that appears buried down the charts behind the likes of Te’Corey couch. With Dane and Tre additions, I’d say he isn’t likely for the 53. NoHuddleKelly12 Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Just remember people, a certain QB who rhymes with Jeterman won the job on the back of preseason prowess—take a deep breath and let’s at least wait until the first regular season game with a real game plan in place before we go all cray-cray on this D staff? Big Blitz Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Arrow up: Sanders Walker Shinault Hancock Andreesen Lundt Soloman Frank Gore Shavers Palmer Arrow down: Everyone in the secondary minus Benford Taron and Hancock. White gets a pass. Landon Jackson Backup Center Ray Davis Davidson Elijah Moore - we just keeping how awesome he is a secret? Based on camp reports and today it looks like he’s got a ways to catch up. No need to prop up or panic over established starters. Milano and Bosa were excellent. Dawkins and Edwards were meh. Not concerned about any penciled in starters. 3 Quote
BlueRed Posted August 9 Posted August 9 Has anyone else envisioned a fake FG pitch out to Ray Davis to win the Super Bowl? …. I think the Bills should get creative with this… Maybe the bills line up to go for it on 4th down, Josh doesn’t like the looks he’s getting from the D and audibles the offense into a FG position and he becomes the holder for Ray Davis’ kick! The options are endless! Quote
muppy Posted August 9 Posted August 9 1 hour ago, BigDingus said: Your assessment is spot on. Can't even get sacks in a preseason game. Still can't get off the field on 3rd down. I know it's preseason, but I'm just more interested in bolstering the offense at this point. McDermott's D will never be great. This take does not make me happy. So the emphasis on improving the DL have been judged moot and "never" great. I don't want to buy that take at such an early juncture. I think it's overly pessimistic. I'm not saying they are perfect by any means. jmho give it another quarter or 12 and then we can talk further. m Quote
