gobills404 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I would just like to congratulate Hairston on joining the exclusive club of being called a bust before even playing a single snap. 3 12 1 Quote

We went into this season needing to get younger on D and when you draft D with the vast majority of your picks, you’d like to have immediate contributions especially from your top picks. What were your pre draft picks? Did you like the picks when they happened or did you have different choices? Quote

Determining whether a pick is a hit or a miss is rarely determined in year 1. I don’t think we’ll know if any of these guys are misses this season. I think we did well drafting Jackson Hawes. He has been a solid contributor. Dionne Walker looks like he belongs on an NFL field. I haven't heard Sanders name mentioned much. Hairston is injured. Jackson looked bad in the preseason. I was surprised given he was a starter on a mid level SEC team. He should be used to going up against good competition. Strong looked decent when he played. And I think Hancock could be very good if he can stay healthy and is given the opportunity. I think we all would like several of these guys' play to just jump off the screen where you are like right away, this guy is a baller!! Kind of like Sam Cowart. Remember him? He was playing lights out in 2000 when he suffered that terrible knee injury on that wet field in Tampa. But I am not sure that was his rookie year. And we did sign Matt Prater. LOL 1 Quote

He doesn't seem to anchor well, and he gets pushed out of the play. More of a three-technique than a one-technique. If he learns to play with more leverage, maybe builds up his lower-body strength, he could be extraordinary. I'd like to see him and Groot inside with their arms up. Quote

On the other hand, if the team asserts that a player isn't physically ready to return, I know of no league practice where they would investigate to see if the team is sandbagging. 4 hours ago, Augie said: Even if he doesn’t become a huge contributor this year, it sure would be nice for him to get some experience at full speed with live bullets this season. The injury was a bummer, but that stuff happens. The more play he can get this year, the more it will help prepare him for next year. If he can be a big help this year, I’ll think of that as icing on the cake. I agree. Even if Hairston didn't come back until say, week 8, I can't imagine that the Bills couldn't figure out a way to get him meaningful reps in game situations. For instance on obvious passing downs, bring him in and say "you cover that guy." This isn't quantum physics. 3 hours ago, BillsShredder83 said: Good point.... or it could be this was all he's allowed to put on tape knowing cameras are there? If theres truth to 'not allowed to stay on IR if fully healthy', and we certaily know the system gets abused to protect players from waivers.... im just saying. Could be roster management and wanting to pick the right time (like near bye week) to introduce him to lineup, while also being able to roster the extra man. I think you're 100% correct. There's a bit of strategic gamesmanship going on in McDermott's comments. I'd bet Hairston comes back this season and plays meaningful snaps. I also envision him making meaningful contributions. Big Blitz Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Who was saying he didn’t look too agile out there today? Like not able to cut. This looks really good I wish I had a better understanding by what McD meant by it’s a complicated injury or however he described it. But he looks close. Like could play by week 8-9 close. Thats 5 plus weeks away. How much more time does this need? 1 1 Quote

For him to be 2 months in, and still wearing a knee brace like that, it doesn't make me feel too confident that he's close to returning from this. It actually makes me think it's more of a tear than just a sprain and they want to see if it will heal on it's own without surgery. I'm not confident he will play at all this year. 1 1 Quote

Sprains essentially are tears. He appears to luckily have avoided surgery. There is no way they even try bringing a rookie like him along to come back at some point if it could impact his career - say bc he needed surgery but we opted to let it heal. We may have endured our fair share of injuries. But is there any that we didn’t handle well? Milano came back late last year. We got Von back but unfortunately he was too old. Tre came back after coming along slow. What you’re seeing is caution. Making sure he’s good during his practices and see how he feels the next day. That’s what McD can’t thru the trainers know rn. And I think the team wants it clear to Max that he isn’t going to be looked at as having to be the final piece to win it. Max will be back but he isn’t going to be forced into a CB 2 role. Don’t be shocked if we trade for a depth CB by Nov 1. 1 Quote

Even pointing to the positive of what I assumed they were saying. They ended up angrily replying and said I was wasting site bandwidth. I welcome criticism as well as praise. I think a better way to say things about the Max pick is his slight frame and prior injury history. It was one of the concerns by many prior to the draft. Statements like "Hariston is going to be a stud" seems really premature and definitely an opinion based on what? You call out others for being ludicrous but perhaps you fall into that category too. Look, we all want Max to succeed. He's shown very little to date because of his injury. His speed is special but speed alone doesn't equate to a stud CB. Lots of unknowns ahead. What's known. Is Harriston needs reps and he's missing them. Valuable NFL playing time is being missed. I think it's safe to say that growing pains will occur. My hope is Max will be solid come playoff time. How realistic is this? Quote
