BruceVilanch Posted Monday at 05:36 PM Posted Monday at 05:36 PM From pellisero and pft: The Bengals are moving on from Germaine Pratt. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Cincinnati will release the veteran linebacker on Monday. Pratt, 29, requested a trade from Cincinnati back in February. But the Bengals held onto him until the tail end of the offseason program. Pratt was set to make $5.2 million in base salary for the last year of his contract. By releasing him, the Bengals will save $5.85 million against the cap Bengals dgaf about defense! Quote
Taro Nimbus Posted Monday at 05:38 PM Posted Monday at 05:38 PM This is to make room for Trey Hendrixson. That team is gonna have 4 players taking up a third of their total cap. Insane. 5 1 Quote

It is insane to me that the same franchise that invested in Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins is also responsible for ruining their QB. 1 2 Quote

mushypeaches Posted Monday at 05:43 PM Posted Monday at 05:43 PM Well, we could certainly use some veteran LB depth, even just for break glass in case of emergency I never want to see Baylon Spector taking defensive snaps for this team again 3 4 4 Quote

Not sure he is they type to fit our LB scheme... he is big at a little over 240 and has a 5.5mm cap hit if we claim him... obviously if we waited we could negotiate a new contract... but not sure he fits the scheme... Coach Tuesday Posted Monday at 08:13 PM Posted Monday at 08:13 PM Kind of a d1ck move to cut a team captain this far into the offseason. 2 2 Quote

eball Posted Monday at 08:50 PM Posted Monday at 08:50 PM This guy should really play for New Orleans… Quote

Fan in Chicago Posted Monday at 09:09 PM Posted Monday at 09:09 PM Serious question cos I don't follow the Bengals closely - is he worth kicking the tires on? I wouldn't mind an experienced LB on our team. 1 Quote

GunnerBill Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Slightly surprising in terms of timing. Did have a poor season in 2024 though. If this happened in March I'd not have been as surprised. While I don't think he is a high end MLB he wasn't exactly expensive so having made it to June it's a tad odd. Quote
GoBills! Posted Monday at 09:30 PM Posted Monday at 09:30 PM Bug heavy LB, could help in the run game if he’s able to stay in position, guys like Baylon can go to practice squad or sit the bench . Quote

I have long given up trying to understand what the Bengals do, but they do have a new DC. It makes some sense that he might have wanted to see everyone in person in offseason workouts before deciding who to release. Quote

That is a fair point, although Golden was their linebackers coach previously (before a stint at Notre Dame). So you'd think he knows Pratt pretty well. Maybe having been away a couple of years he comes back in and the decline is more noticeable to him and he just says "he's not the same guy he was at his peak". Quote
