He didn't play well. Missed a bunch of passes to wide open WRs. Any hint of pressure in the pocket and he completely wilted. And he wasn't much better in the NFCCG against the Lions that year either. He's a perfect bridge QB that they're now paying like one of the elites.

IMO:

 

Pros: Accuracy,  a good pre snap qb. (although I do think Shanny helps a ton with that)

 

Cons: Poor arm strength, can't throw in inclement weather, poor decision making at times

 

At best I think he is an average QB- JMO

49ers were in a tough spot. He might be great but he might not. 

I would have franchised him twice like the Commanders did with Cousins. I'm not sold he is the long term answer. It may have been cap prohibitive for them to tag him though.

I really thought the better idea for the 49ers would have been to trade him or let him walk and draft a guy like Quinn Ewers. If any system is set to draft a guy late and rinse repeat to save the dough it's that one.

Purdy is the definition of QB purgatory. Just good enough to be fearful of letting him go, but not good enough to win it all. He was the QB of a team of superstars in their prime with elite offensive coaching and his play in the Super Bowl directly cost that team their chance at glory. And with his new salary they'll never be able to build that caliber of team around him again.

 

I think Kyle Shanahan could someday go the Andy Reid route of getting fired after 10+ years of disappointing playoff exits, going to a new team where he finds his elite QB, then start racking up championships.

They should have gone after Lamar two years ago.  He would have been unstoppable in that offense.

Are you talking relative to contract? Like you would rather Fields at 20 million compared to those guys in the 50s?

the goal is the Super Bowl and we know for a fact that Brock can help get you there.

Purdy is not that great. He's a middling QB that is another product of the Shanahan system.
