Early returns on Landon is not so great, his camp has been fairly average not hearing much either way about him which is usually a sign a player is playing OK not standing out one way or the other. Pre-season game 1 he looked lost out there which is not a good sign, although I always wonder what guys are "working on" in pre-season and maybe just nerves? Hoping he shows out more in the pre-season but if he needs a year to develop while that's not ideal that's not exactly unheard of either.

A mid round pick struggling in his first taste of pre-season action? Shocking.

as a premium position guy that lasted a long time…. Clearly the nfl saw significant limitations.

it’s not quite the same but a 3rd round qb has nearly no expectation while a round 3 running back is probably carrying a bit more pressure to contribute early.

he’s at a position that gets overdrafted and he still lasted. I would plan to give him plenty of runway to figure things out and would not put all my chips in on him reaching all pro status.

I do think Jackson was viewed likely as someone that might need a year to develop despite enormous physical tools and potential. I think many teams drafting in round 1-2 and early round 3 are probably looking at getting prospects they feel are more likely to contribute in year one while also having higher end potential. Also you get GM's drafting to keep their jobs wanting a guys that are more likely to contribute right away so they can win an extra couple of games to keep their jobs or at least have a chance to.

When reading about Landon it seemed like the consensus was that while he needed development he had a very high ceiling. I think most reports prior to the draft had him going in the mid 2nd to mid 3rd round range which he fell to the lower end of that range being the 8th pick of round 3. I also think the Bills don't have a dramatic need to draft a DE that's gonna contribute right away. They have Groot and AJE as young vets and they signed Bosa and Hoecht that's 4 starting or high rotation caliber players at DE. So they could afford to take a chance on a guy in round 3 as they could see if he can take on a back end rotation role and develop longer term.

Perfectly stated.

Some good perspective here.  Hopefully he figures it out.

Not to say he'll be a great one but look back to the posts from the pre season of Bernard's second year and you'll see people calling him a bust and a waste of a pick. And that was his second season. Some people are more premature than me on my wedding night

Great video here on Landon Jackson and how he uses excellent hands, pass rush moves, length, and explosiveness as an edge rusher. Also mentioned is that his production was hurt because Arkansas used a lot of 3 linemen sets on their defense.

This video was made pre-draft, so he mentions that he might not even go in the 1st round, but we know he didn't go until the 3rd round. Great pick by Buffalo!

Honestly, Beane is LONG OVERDUE getting a true blue chip player not named “Josh Allen.” Landon Jackson has just as good a chance as anybody else.

Does anybody know why he fell so much ?

Stiff. Rawwww. Not a natural football guy IMO. Only has bull rush.

 Low floor,  heigh ceiling.

All that said from a fan of the pick. If he develops right he could be a real steal... proli not getting much outta him this year though. But dude will work hard and give himself a chance to develop

I think the amount of talent at edge in this draft played a decent role in him falling to late 3.  May still have been an early 3rd, but maybe late 2nd. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Let's hope. I'm getting a little tired of our guys "almost" getting there.

Wait, weren't you the guy opining about the Bills' elite talent just a few days ago?

Guess I'm a negative Nancy. I think there's a better chance Bosa stays healthy for 14+ games than Jackson turning into an elite edge rusher.

And Bosa won't stay healthy for 14+ games, so...

A larger volume of very good guys doesn’t help him but in a world where everyone is trying to stack edge talent for less than $40m a year and you need several…. It still speaks to managing expectations that he lasted.

hopefully he unlocks the upside!

He’s a 3rd round pick, should the expectation be becoming an elite edge rusher?

They are elite in the regular season anyway.
