Draft Buzz has Franklin rated #25 and Thomas Jr #28

I made the move before the draft and thankfully both players I wanted were available at 23.  Then Thomas made it to 28

Also quite happy with who I was able to get in Rounds 2-4.   DT value wasn't there in the 2nd though

In order to acquire 23, we could trade next year's 1st + another pick / roster player

Or we could trade Diggs + a mid and late rounder

no clue how to feel about this draft.  People who know more about these players please chime in.  The CB from Toledo was there, so I took him based off his ranking.  No clue if he can contribute right away.   I think Polk in the 2nd can be a #1 WR.  Then it went D heavy just because of BPA.  I think Cephaus may be a steal that late at slot WR, not sure.  Have never seen Leary play but the wright up made him seem like a potential capable backup QB.  Thoughts??

If you compare PFN and PFF, their boards are quite different. And no doubt, individual teams have disparate boards with some significant variance, not to mention how free agency and the Combine, etc. will change needs and draft fortunes. So, in short, it's a complete time waster to think one can use a mock simulator to model possibilities. Yet, what else can a Bills' fan do this time of year? So, I like this one. Went off-script a bit in the second, but overall, it's a nice mix.

I feel I’ve ended up having that exact draft in terms of the first 5 picks on one of them I’ve done before lol

Any chance we can grab a super versatile RB in the mid rounds? this dude’s comp is McCaffrey. Not saying he will be that but not a bad comp.  He had no problem killing it vs Power-5 players in the Senior Bowl practices

I like Braelon Allen early, but we can't take a RB when he will go. And I like Kendall Milton late.

In between, if you take a mid-round RB, I like Isaiah Davis if you go big, and Laube if you go for a more versatile back.

He is intriguing.

Just based on your last two efforts I like Jackson at #98 a lot better than I like him at #60. I don't like Dorlus as a scheme fit for the Bills though. He is a 5tech who needs to play defensive end in a 3-4 IMO.

Thought I'd post this one because it started quite differently and that kind of forced it to go away from some of the standard picks we have seen in these:

28. Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA - He was still there and my golden rule in the draft is never reach down a tier just for need. If you want to reach within a tier of prospects to take a guy you have graded slightly lower because you have a need at the position, fine. There will be questions about Latu's health situation but on the basis that he doesn't get red flagged he is a top tier prospect in this class. The Bills do have expiring contracts at edge as well so while it isn't the #1 need it is a need.

***TRADE!!! Bills give up #60 (2nd round); #129 (4th round); and #162 (5th round) for #52 (2nd round) and #212 (6th round)***

52. Xavier Legette, Wide Receiver, South Carolina - People know I am higher than the consensus on Legette but my plan wasn't to trade up for him until the run on receivers started. By #50 ELEVEN receivers were off the board. Legette and Polk were the only two of all the guys we have talked about ad nauseum on this board left. Legette has future #1 receiver ceiling and I don't think Polk does. Polk went two picks later to the Browns making it 13 in the first 54 picks.

100. Dominick Puni, Guard, Kansas - I wasn't necessarily looking to take an offensive lineman here but the way the board fell Puni made most sense. I think end of the third is about his range. He is an older prospect (turns 24 tomorrow) and has played six years of college football. What that means is he is coming out pretty much the finished article in terms of physical profile but I like him technically and while I think he starts in the NFL at guard (maybe making McGovern an option at center if the Bills move on from Mitch Morse?) he played left tackle for Kansas and could definitely get you out of a game there if you needed him to.

***TRADE!!! Bills give up #159 (5th round); and #212 (6th round) for #151 (5th round)***

151. Keith Randolph Jnr, Defensive Tackle, Illinois - I started trying to move up to target a receiver (Jermaine Burton was still on the board) but he went right before I was able to find a trade that worked. I decided to still pull the trigger and target Randolph who is a really physical run defender despite not being the biggest guy ever and I think could end up as a starting 1tech in the league.

198. Zion Tupuola- Fetui, Edge, Washington - Another older prospect and not someone I'd necessarily consider value earlier in the draft because he has limited second contract potential and is probably a backup / rotational player rather than a starter. But as a 6th round flier I think he has more natural talent than a lot of the guys left on the board at this spot. I'll use his cheap rookie contract years up as a low price DLine backup then let him walk.

202. Anthony Gould, Wide Receiver, Oregon State - I finally got a second receiver but he isn't really a receiver he is a return specialist. Even though he had 700 yards as a receiver in his final year in college at 5'8 his NFL ceiling is probably an Isaiah McKenzie type returner combined with some gimmick use in the offense. He had two punt return touchdowns in college and followed that up with one in the Shrine Bowl game. The Bills two return man options on the current roster are both expensive. Gould allows you to get cheaper at that spot.

206. Joe Milton, Quarterback, Tennessee - I have picked Milton in almost every one of these I've done. I am clear the Bills should take a swing on a toolsy Quarterback with one of their late day 3 picks in the hope of ending up with a cheap backup if not immediately then certainly after a year on the practice squad as a rookie.

246. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, Safety, Texas Tech - This was the first time the value at safety lined up with where I was picking. I actually think he is a fit for the Bills scheme based on my limited exposure to him. He looks like a zone safety. I have seen a fair few people grade him as an early day three pick so in the 7th round he represents value and even if he doesn't become an every down starter his coverage skills make him a legit candidate to play in dime packages.

Not necessarily saying I love this draft, I am disappointed not to get a viable developmental safety and second receiver earlier, but in terms of an interesting draft that fell differently than a lot of the others on here I thought worth posting and talking through.

This has got to be my favorite mock draft so far.  I traded down early twice to collect top 100 picks.  Both trades were offered by the software. I then instigated two trades up later in the draft to keep the list at 11 picks.  I ended up with two really good ex-bulldog receivers, one for his height and hands and one for his speed with decent size.  I also drafted 3 DLinemen and 2 safeties to add depth to the D both short and long-term.  I'm also thrilled with getting Van Pran, a future starting center, at the end the 3rd rd.

Kept trading down from #28 because I knew the current PFN board has Legette rated ridiculously low. As a result, ended up with a lot of nice relatively early picks. It's still a bad draft for edge players, so only picked up that fella from Western Michigan that seems to have generated some buzz, but this is a pretty good haul. Also, lots of folks have the ND LB Liufau rated way higher, so I don't know why he is always a late day 3 pick on this board.

Not necessarily saying I love this draft, I am disappointed not to get a viable developmental safety and second receiver earlier, but in terms of an interesting draft that fell differently than a lot of the others on here I thought worth posting and talking through.

Latu is an animal.  I really hope he goes to the nfc, if not Buffalo.

Isn't anybody afraid that he may "retire" again?

As I understand it he never wanted to retire. The doctors at Washington wouldn't clear him to play. They essentially retired him. Hence he entered there transfer portal looking for somewhere he had a shot at getting cleared to play.

Now does the neck injury make him potentially a higher risk of reinjuring and properly being done? Yes. How much higher that risk is will be the question and each team's doctors will be all over his medicals. But if the medicals get the green light I don't see him as any greater risk of retiring through choice than any other player who potentially gets a serious injury.

And as @Dr. Who alludes to above it is not a good edge class in terms of depth. It is the top 3 who are all legit first rounders - Turner, Verse and Latu. Then there is a second tier that probably goes Chop Robinson Brice, Braswell. Then I have tier 3 as Isaac and Elliss. And that is basically it in terms of guys I would be willing to take before late day 3. Probably only 8 edge guys in the top 150 players or so in this class. EDIT: the one other guy I suppose is Darius Robinson. Pure tape evaluation I see him as a 5tech who is too stiff to play as a true edge but he had a great senior bowl week and there probably will be teams who feel he can be a 4-3 end or do some stand up rushing from outside in a 3-4. I get that. It is pure projection though based on the tape.

Those last two picks alone represent disqualifyingly unrealistic value, innit? Which is to say, I love it, so it must be impossible.

Legette is becoming perhaps my favorite WR for us not named Brian Thomas Jr. (outside of the 3 that will be long gone). I predict he will be a mid to late 1st Rounder by the end of the Pre-Draft process (if he isn't already amongst league circles).

There's zero chance he's there at 60. So landing him and the Best Safety in the Draft in Round 1 and Round 2, in whichever order, would be amazing.

Though I'd like to see another WR with our 4th pick (either in Round 4 or as a trade up into Round 3) and a Defensive Lineman higher than Pick 100.

I don't like a Safety with the 1st pick AND ONLY 1 DT TOTAL at #100 AND ONLY 1 WR at #60...plus TWO EDGES AND TWO CENTERS WAT THU FUG?

I mean, yeah, if we were to see a Safety get picked at 28 - in the moment it would be upsetting.

But in this unrealistic scenario where we land the #1 Safety in the Draft and my #5 WR within 2 Rounds - I'd be pretty stoked about that.

But I do agree that another WR should be taken with our 4th pick, a DT should be taken earlier than 100 and another at some point as well.

I just can't say I totally hate a Draft where we fill holes at Starting WR with Xavier Legette and Starting S with Tyler Nubin.

Lots of trading involved. Gave up my 3rd and 4th next year pretty early. Then decided I wanted some of those picks back. So when trades were offered to me I opted for next years picks instead. Although still came away with a ton for this year. I’m pretty sure we’ll find at least 1 good WR out of the 2 big ones I drafted. At least 1 of the 3 DTs should work out well with at least bodies for the others. I really like Hicks as starting S but I also see Williams as a S as well. I know he’s listed as a LB but he played S in college. Personally I just don’t see how 220 is thick enough to play LB in this league on a consistent basis. But he would get a shot at either. At worst he would be better than expecting AJ Klein to come off his couch and cover the best TE in the history of the league. Picked up a few depth DEs, along with Milton for his skill set for Joshs future backup for years. And I can’t complete a draft without trying to get Jordan, his highlights are incredible to me. I know a little speed back isn’t what we need, but I can’t help but think he could be extremely useful.
