Have we ever made a big move before the trade deadline?

I honestly can't remember. Last year, all the talk was about CMC (look what he's done to help the 49ers).

This will be another "nothing" burger as usual. Signing dudes who are sitting at home or on a practice squad isn't going to push us over the edge this season.

Bennett was then dealt to the Buffalo Bills from the Colts in a three-way trade that also included Los Angeles Rams running back Eric Dickerson and Bills running back Greg Bell. This trade occurred in the fall of the 1987 season, just before the trade deadline, and has been called "the trade of the decade" by The New York Times.

That was the final move that catapulted the Bills into Super Bowl contenders

That was certainly one of them as it immediately changed the power structure in the AFCE because it gave us the pass rush to impact Marino consistently. But I’d say the final moves to make us SB contenders were the addition of Thurman and the hiring of Marchibroda as OC.

How far has McBeane's pro personnel groups evaluations come since 2017 in both talent and contract value?  Not far.

Darwin Walker? 👀

Off-season trade in 2007. Refused to report when Buffalo refused to re-negotiate his contract.

Don't forget Lofton.

Impactful NFL deadline trades are very rare. The prices are usually steep for even a half-season rental. GMs need to be sure that the player will be significantly better than whoever is on the current roster.

Exactly. It's not the NBA or the NHL where rentals are the norm. The trade deadline is generally a nothing burger league wide.

Yet every year at this time the board is flooded with Trade for this guy or Trade for that guy. And if nothing happens tomorrow, people will be freaking out and saying Beane is asleep at the wheel.

When the truth is, odds are, no one's going to do much of anything league wide. Trades are very rare. I'd be happy if we did anything. Even if it isn't a big needle mover and just a depth move.
