I thought Bernard played better than I thought he would. Had some rough spots, particularly in the run game, but I actually feel better about him at MLB

Copycat

Maybe he's a doppleganger. Better be careful, if anyone says they saw you where you weren't it may be he's stalking you to take your place.

Actually, he played pretty well when he didn’t get swallowed up by huge OL. They’ll figure out how he best can avoid this and let him roam. Way too early to diss him and McBeane for him becoming a Bill.

We could really benefit from a kindergarten classification here.

Too early to dismiss but not too early to be very worried. He is the smallest MLB in the league.  He was moslty terrible and late to makingp lays, but he did make a couple tackles near the LOS. I praised that during the game.

It just looks like he is going to have to guess a lot or have incredible instincts to avoid getting blocked out of the play. He doesn't have the size to take on even average tight ends let alone o-line. Now Edmunds had zero instincts so any improvement there would be welcome.

I truly don't get everyone ragging on Bernards size... he is literally listed as 1 inch taller and 1 pound heavier than Milano...

Yes he got caught up in traffic and even swallowed up at times, but I saw more downhill play from him in one game than Edmunds ever did in a game.

Guys will make plenty of tackles when the offense determines that they can run right at your weak link. He’s another tweener and I’m pretty sure the raiders are going to run JJ right at him. My guess is he’s a placeholder until they feel Kirksey is ready.

How about Ed Oliver on his back?

Little Eddie will flash every six weeks, only to disappear the rest of the time

Well first of all he plays middle line backer not outside. And second just look at them. Milano has NFL arms and Bernard does not.

His tape is gonna be really bad. I tried watching him early and he was getting straight plowed onto his back.  It was not good. He is too small and he is not fast enough either. Just don’t get it.

Incorrect. From guys who actually watched and studied the All-22, Bernard surprised them. Instinctive and good in zone coverage. Struggled playing off blockers but he’s 220. Milano struggles with that as well. “Encouraged” is the word used to describe him from what I’ve heard.

Bills want pass coverage LBers, Bernard fits the role well.

Did you go through the pbp to see where those tables were?

Most of the short stops were his comb tackles, where frankly, of you review the game, you'll not that he was secondary on.

Also, MLBs are all but categorically the top tacklers in the league.  But I liked his play to that is DB tackles.  When a CB leadsca team in tackles, it's typically not a good sign for what would be obvious reasons.  TB's tackles were more of that nature.

He played better than expected and better than either Dodson or Klein in pre-season. The worst element of his game was actually getting the D lined up properly. Multiple times in the first half they were misaligned. But they were better 2nd half in that regard.

I don't want to say he was good, that would be a stretch too far. But he wasn't a liability. If we can say that about the MLB 17 times this season I'd take it.
