The 2023 - ??? Edmunds Report

Recommended Posts

There was a weekly “this guy isn’t that bad I swear” report on Edmunds for the last couple years.

After watching him whiff yesterday, I’m not sure if he got benched or what, but I’d love to hear some breakdown of the former “ProBowler” and his level of play in a Bears uni.

Dude just whiffs sometimes he is what he is

The announcers on tv were funny, making excuse like Edmunds needs to learn bears defense still... in my head i was thinking the bears fans better get used to those whiffs 🤣

He missed a couple weeks of practice and only got a couple days in this week.

Some of you guys are really obsessed with trying to trash a player. I thought it was really weird to do for a player on the team you root for. But even after he’s gone, and after the replacement has been a huge concern for a lot we still need to trash the guy? You’d think he was an off field distraction, or bashed the city and fans, maybe didn’t put any effort in.. Nope, just didn’t meet certain people’s expectations and got signed to a hefty contract on a rebuilding team. Certainly deserving the hatred and critique

Some of it is probably backlash to the completely obnoxious “told you so” crowd that wants to say “do ya miss Edmunds now?” as if those of us who didn’t want to pay him thought we should come into the season Dodson/Klein/Bernard battling for starting MLB.

Most of the “don’t pay Edmunds” crowd is also the “why did we draft outside linebackers on Day 2 in consecutive years” crowd.

Hopefully one of Bernard/Williams eventually owns the spot and we can all move on.

They will leave Edmunds alone once the new target is identified.  We are in primary season but the general election is forthcoming.   Candidates include:

Elam…..leader in the clubhouse

Davis

Harty….because people will whine that the unemployed ham and egger Isabella would have been awesome

White…..for reasons I do not begin to understand

Brown but that’s probably too easy

Dawkins

McDermott

Beane

and more.

The hate will eventually settle in and focus like a laser.

I’m a little out of touch. I thought Diggs was leading because he’s toxic, he had temper tantrums in Minnesota, and he hates Allen and Mcdermott.
With Elam and Dawkins closely behind.

It was strange to head the announcers sing his praises so hard.  I nearly spit my drink out when they said how aggressive he is to the ball.

Then Edmunds proceeded to do his best work, 5th man to the tackle for consecutive plays.

It’s crazy that people on a Bills board bash disappointing Bills players. It’s almost like they want to win?

Disappointing their way to 12+ win season after 12+ win season.  A guy who has yet to start his second season if “evidence” for the ”I’d be a better GM that Beane” crowd.  It’s a complete joke, but by all means keep believing you’re a savant while finishing seventh again in your fantasy football league because you draft guys like Andy Isabella.

There’s some middle ground on the Edmunds thing. He’s pretty decent, overhyped and nowhere near worth paying what he got. He’s much better than what we have now. All of these things can be true. Also there were several better options available than what we have. We should have done more to replace him. That’s the real issue IMO

Similar to when I am out of Rice Krispies, go to the store, and come home with dishwashing soap, dry cat food, canned garbanzo beans...and finding I went specifically for the Rice Krispies and forgot them. 🤔😕

What if we won our fantasy league though?

Our success is mainly due to having Josh Allen .. which Beane 100% gets a ton of credit for.

That said.. He’s a good GM, but I’m getting pretty tired of seeing board favorites get passed over by this team only to ball out…

DK Metcalf

George Pickens

Creed Humphrey

Trey Smith

Tariq Woolen

Dawand Jones (too early to tell)

Beane is one of the best at managing the cap and keeping solid depth on cap-strapped roster (also need to give credit to Pegula), but when it comes to the draft… a lot of fans have a right to side eye his moves .. because a lot of fans have begged this team to draft really good players that we skipped over for poor results.

I’d like to win a Super Bowl. I’d like our players to play well enough to win one. I’m sorry this offends you so much lmao

I get your point, but there are way to many variables involved to say for sure a player would have success here, just because they are good on a different team.  (ie coaching, scheme, players around them etc)

Sometimes the GM is limited on who he takes, based on the input from the coaching staff, regarding the particular type of players they feel they need.

But Edmunds was actually very good last season. Is that even arguable? I mean, come on. Opposing QBs had a rating of 69.9 against him and his missed tackle rate was a minuscule 1 percent. This is one of the dumber narratives in Bills fandom, in my opinion. Time to let it go.

I didn't watch yesterday but i know when he was here there were games that he would make some really good plays & then wife on others he wasn't consistent enough to be considered a HOF player .

That being said i think the team would have been better off spending the money on him rather than Oliver the contracts were about the same .

As young as Edmunds still is and being a 1st round pick there is a better chance that he is still growing into his position . Oliver on the other hand is under sized & is no  John Randall plus with the talent that the Bills have at his position i feel they would have been just as good with out him having Jones, Ford, & Phillips plus being able to use Basham, Roseau to move down at times on the D line .

But i hope Beane & McD know better & the MLB position isn't a weakness this season because if it is Bills Mafia will let it be known .

You've got an interesting definition of “disappointing”.  Multiple Pro-Bowls and top 5 in tackles in the NFL since entering the league…lol.

I’ve seen you prop up way worse players but you can’t help but over exaggerate Edmunds cuz he wasn’t the next Ray Lewis lmao

Agreed.

For instance, I’d cringe if we traded Kaiir Elam to the Ravens or Giants.. The guy has talent, and seems to be a mess mentally in our system due to what we need him to be.

Send him to a team that plays more press man and I’d be very worried for another Wyatt Teller moment.

He has issues he needs to work out, but we’re hell-bent, apparently, on not letting that happen.   I get why the staff feels they can’t trust him, but I also blame the staff some for this being a problem of their own making.

Edmunds wasn’t good enough to keep around. Which is disappointing to trade up to #16 in the first round for.

You have to keep up bro, Diggs was offsesaon news.  We moved on to Dawkins, and recently Elam has leap frogged Dawkins for the lead.

Yes he had the best year of his career. The last two years before his passer rating allowed was over 100. Which is why he played on his fifth year option.

I was a HUGE Edmunds fan when we drafted him. Thought we’d be set for over a decade with a potential perennial All-Pro manning the middle of the D. Each year I got a little more disappointed. I was convinced Beane was going to extend him because of the constant praise we heard and the fact he traded up to get him. We could have extended him, the fact that we didn’t says A LOT about what McBeane thought. Edmunds is what he is. He isn’t going to all of a sudden make this big leap in year 6 into the LB we all wanted him to be.

The fact is, linebacker isn’t a premium position and they made the call that Oliver at DT was more important than Edmunds at LB. I’m glad we didn’t extend him at the price he got. He’s better than anything we have on the roster currently though (besides Milano), so McD better have a scheme in mind to make up for that this season. I think he does. I think we will see a lot of Rapp and Neal in a big nickle/dime look on passing downs. I don’t think we are looking for an Edmunds replacement because you can’t replace those physical traits.
