Leslie Frazier "taking a year off from coaching" per Bills PR

Definitely a strange way to part ways with your DC but it fits with how dysfunctional this management team is within the Bills. I guess they wanted to put a little time between the end of the season and this move so as not to embarrass Frazier so hopefully they have already had someone lined up to be the DC for some time.

This team is too funny. Trying to be cute. Love how they word this nonesense. ‘Taking a year off’ rather than firing him which they should’ve right after the Bengals game. Happy his gone and hopefully we get a real DC to replace him.

“Classy” and “likable” mean nothing in sports if the job isn’t getting done. It’s a cutthroat industry, all that matters is results. If Frazier was a total d*ck, but called a defense that played above the talent he had on the field. No one would care.

McD has now parted ways with both of his initial coordinators. Our HC is classy and likable as well, but if the Bills don’t show progress, guess who’s next on the chopping block?

I mean, it did.

Jesus, some of these opinions

A dysfunctional management team? This team has made the playoffs the last five years

Dysfunctional teams don’t make the playoffs every year they don’t go 13 and three

The Bills lose to the Bengals 27-10 and everyone walks away talking about the defensive failings. Football fans are funny.

Did you forget the multiple threads after the game calling for Dorsey to be fired or that Josh needed to be better?

I don't think the conversation was like...

"Sean, I think I need a break. I'm going to take a year off and recharge the batteries."

It was more like,

"Leslie, you look tired. Why don't you take some time off. I think a year would be good."

I agree with this

It also might tell us just how much the defense really is McDermonts and how much input he really had into it

We really don’t know what goes on behind the scenes on these things there may have been points this year we’re McDermott had to step in and take it over we just don’t know

But we’re about to find out

It was the OC's first year.  The DC, not so much.  They looked terrible both sides of the ball.  But it wasn't Frazier's first playoff failure.

It's a respectable way for a long-time professional to save face as he retires (or is forced into retirement).

It is the opposite of the type of treatment Coaches received under Ralph for decades which went to put the org into a position we couldnt hire any quality coaches. Now they see this level of respect and will only help our image when it comes to attracting coaches.

Al Holcomb was Carolina's interim DC last year. He was just hired as our Sr. Defensive Assistant. My guess says McD will be more active on the D side and Holcomb will fill in the gaps and maybe call plays.

Finally, someone who read the article.

Let's be real here.  December 2020:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-leading-the-charge-for-defensive-coordinator-leslie-frazier-to-merit-strong-head-coaching-consideration/

"Buffalo could end up losing their defensive coordinator and that's fine with owner Kim Pegula"

Ditto McDermott quoted supporting this back then.  No way this goes on record if they're completely happy with the job Frazier does.  IMO Frazier is not a guy who likes to make in-game adjustments, and that's what killed him.  Too slow to recognize he needs to quickly figure out how to pressure the QB in a playoff game instead of riding it out and hoping.

I didn't even watch Bills/Bengals playoff game.  In Cinci, they were abusing our defense before Hamlin went down, but it was early and I knew Frazier wouldn't change much up for the playoff game.  Ironically, without the tragedy, we would have got our asses kicked in Cinci but stood a better chance in the playoffs.

Class act and thank-you Leslie, but we need more than you seem capable of.

this depends on who they get... If they find a way to bring a well named DC in the house then its his defense... Not McD.    Will McD have his voice in things yes! but unless its another first or second year student? EXPECT changes....

Sounds like McD is planning to run the D from what Beane said.

Yes, dysfunctional. Look how they handled the 13 seconds last year. Who took accountability? Then we have Beane whining in the year end presser about the Bengals and how bad they were to be able to get Chase, when he has repeatedly whiffed on picks. I think there has been a lack of accountability and willingness to call it like it is with this front office.
