I’m guessing he’s demonstrated he can do it in practice week after week. It’s not difficult to simulate.

Even if he's still working on it his freakish talent gives him room to work on it. He figures that out and he's a HOF level punter.

Did you watch the Jests game this past Jan.?

Most of us were 'sold' on releasing Haack BEFORE this game.  Yet you are still unsure??

This clip perfectly encapsulates my viewpoint on Haack.  As a holder, he was a sigh of relief after Bojo's antics.

As a punter, he was a complete adventure.  You never knew what you were going to get.  Might be a perfect "coffin corner" pin.  Might flip the field.

Or, might be a blocked punt, or a dropped snap, or a shank.

I don't *think* Haack actually cost us a game last season, but it wasn't for want of trying.

Just a minor issue but I am not sure I like this kind of reporting. I guess that for somebody who doesn't know much about cap space this indicates that we now have $1.135M more free cap space, which is not correct. You have to replace Haack's salary with somebody else, which in this case will be PG and his $760K or so. So we actually save much less.

Not a big deal I know.

We know Araiza has the leg for the long punts and that's great. But, has he demonstrated that he also has the touch for pinning a team deep? I'm not sold on releasing Haack is a good thing. At least not yet.

I am...the Bills rarely punt, and typically go for it whenever they are in "No Man's Land", so the majority of punts that will be happening will be in situations where they are backed up in their own end. As such, flipping field position like that is invaluable.

Lack of offense in the 2nd half cost us that game.

Haack put two perfect kicks on tape in the preseason and applied needed pressure on Araiza. Hopefully he’s picked up and the organization looks good for helping out both kickers.  The front office realizes Araiza could literally cost us a game or two this year, but it’s worth the risk for the potential rewards over the next decade.

Even for a below average punter the odds of directly losing a game from a poor punt is so small it’s not even worth consideration.

Not saying it’s never happened or couldn’t happen but it’s unlikely.

The Bills were tied with the 4th fewest punts in the NFL last season.  Don't see that changing too much this year.  I wonder if there is a prop bet on Araiza uncorking a 90 yarder this season?  Might be a fun wager.

Steelers game is correct. We were not good offensively in that game but a blocked punt for a TD all because he took incredibly way to long to get the punt off cost us the game 100%.

The team hasn’t punted much at all the last couple of years (just under 3 punts per game on average). They have especially been more aggressive of late around mid field. Worst case, if Araiza boots it into the end zone once or twice per game, we lose maybe 10 yards of field position. That’s not too consequential if the trade off is he can uncork an 80 yarder once in a while and truly flip the field if we find ourselves in a bad spot.

Fair.

Technically, the Steelers had already taken the lead at the point where the blocked punt was returned for a TD, and the Bills only scored 2 FG so with the Steelers FG and without the blocked punt TD, that would have tied it.

But it had to have been a morale-buster, so your point is valid

That game was such a CF that I forget it was actually close outside of the ST SNAFU
