Jordan Davis is unreal

Yeah Ted Washington was a different body type........his thighs were like tree trunks and he had 35" long arms and 11" hands so he could get very low and get under the pads of OL and man handle them despite being a relatively tall 6'4".

I actually think Jordan Davis could turn into a really good pass rusher..........but will always struggle to anchor and dominate against the run if he can't find it in him to get low and play with leverage.

In the other Davis thread I posted a link to Jordan Phillips highlights from college..........the two players tape looks remarkably similar...........in college Phillips could play tall and dominate just like Davis did...........and Phillips was characterized as a late first round 3-4 NT prospect..........but in the NFL he has really just developed into an oversized gap shooting 3 tech because he can't get low.   When the Bills tried to use him at 1 tech guards would get into his chest and drive him out of the play.

Great comp

I think if you’re drafting Davis you’re doing so with the understanding that he’s not going to be getting after the QB very much. That’s not his game and isn’t something that usually develops for guys of his size.

So then your not drafting him at 25. You don’t take a 2 down player in the first round, no matter how good those two downs are in a passing league

Two sacks this year, and he usually comes off the field on third down…no thanks. At least not at 25.

Yeah I was listening to Joe Marino's. Locked on Bills Podcast on this topic.  Joe had very similar stuff to say

* Guy is ranked 81st in Pressure among eligible DTs

* He has a mind set to stop the run. but not rush the passer...so he is not a 3-down lineman

* Opponents took advantage of his poor conditioning by going no-huddle

* His own college coach called him out for having non-playing weight mass.

* He is NO Vita Vae

I don't think this guy meets. Sean or Beane philosophy

Yep.  Davis would do zero to put us over the top against the Chiefs. Reid and Mahomes would have Davis on the sidelines, sucking oxygen after two quarters.

I don’t know.  I mean the guy is probably the best athlete on the planet for a guy that size.  At worst you’re getting a 2 down run stopper. At best you’re getting a guy who could be un-blockable if he wants to be great.

This is so uneducated.  It takes a play here and there to change games and whith him eating double teams Oliver eats.  Rousseau eats.  If they eat Hyde poyer etc eat.  Edmunds and Milano are instantly better.

All it takes is a play or two and we are the better team than KC and with a guy like this he gives the ability for the big playmaker to make a play.

Not to mention he's 25 pounds down since end of season...him at a "lighter" weight could mean he is a 3 down guy.   See 10 yard split.

If he's there at 25 you sprint to the podium.

Don't believe all you hear.  I'm a Dawgs fan and watched this guy from day one.  He's no lazy dareus.  He's struggled with conditioning more than anything which the 25 pounds down he is shows he can get in shape. 1 offseason with NFL staff and he will be what Starr was supposed to be.

I wish people would understand that this is not a bill’s type defensive tackle at least not someone that they would take high in a draft if you can’t rush the passer the bills are not interested

Plus, we need a 1T with Harry.  Star is done.

you still must be able to stop the run.  We don’t have anyone reliable there.   See Colts game

Not really you can’t take a odd game and say see you need a 2 down run stuffer. This isn’t 1990. He’ll be taken out of most of the games with high passing attacks. So the Bills faced how many running teams last year. The Colts, Steelers, and Titans, throw the Pats in twice. So a schedule last year of 5 of 17 teams= 30% of the schedule he would have been of good value in as a 2 down player with no pass rush skills. It’s not worth a first rounder. The only way it makes sense is if he develops into Vita Vea which I don’t see. I think it’s more likely he eats his way out of the NFL than he does becoming a dominant pass rusher

I actually like DeVonte Wyatt.  He beat Jordan's time and he can get after the QB.

Where is Wyatt projected to go?

I agree. I hope the Bills aren't targeting him.

Look at his play on the field. I don't put much stock in the combine results. Imho, too many red flags on this guy to take at 25. Hard pass for me.

Let's see. We lost to the Colts, the Titans, the Steelers and once to the Pats. Sounds like we could use someone to stuff the run.

That freakish foot speed means he might have higher upside than a two down run stuffer.  Whether or not the Bills think he's worth the 25th overall depends on the due diligence the Bills are able to do in assessing whether he can take advantage of that raw athleticism and turn into a three down player.

Take a look at the one DT we have drafted in the 1st round and what his talents are......they dont use first round picks on run pluggers

Not so far with the Bills but they were there when the Panthers drafted Star in the first round.  They then overpaid for him to come here to be a run stuffer.  I wouldn't be surprised if Davis is the pick.

I’ll be interested to hear what Joe Marino has to say about Jordan Davis after the impressive combine, he spent about 15 minutes talking about how Davis would be a terrible pick at 25. Maybe someone grabs him ahead of us now anyways.
