Harrison Phillips playing through torn PCL

Quote

I tore my PCL,” Phillips said. “But it definitely could have been a lot worse. And I was able to work myself to be ready for Week 1 with Star being out, then got a couple more weeks of rest and now I’m starting to really feel like myself again.”

The posterior cruciate ligament affects stability in the knee, but injuries do not always require surgery.

As far as how it affects his mobility, Phillips said: “It’s something I work through.”

There are a number of unknown issues that might or might not eventually come to the surface, but this is an example of why sometimes as fans we "assume" we know more than we do. Harry's been the consummate professional since he's been in Buffalo and faced adversity along the way without whining or complaining or finger pointing. He's simple put his head down and committed to working harder to be better or overcome that adversity. I want him to continue to be a Buffalo Bill at the right price and believe he's an example of a late-bloomer type of player. I think his best football, if he can stay healthy, is still ahead of him. That's not to say I think he'll be an All-Pro, but I do think he could be a solid contributor on the line, the way we've seen him play the last few games.

tough break in a contract year.. no way he could get it repaired.. would have ended his career... which might be over anyway, but he had no choice but to play through it.. man, NFL careers are short.   He's in a tough spot.  Needs to get it fixed, but cannot afford the time off if he gets it fixed.. yikes.

Agree. Thanks for the memories. If Zimmer didn't get hurt he many not have dressed the rest of the year.  They need to draft a true NT body in first three rounds next year

There's a big difference between a true NT and a big 1T tackle in the NFL these days. The 1T is indeed a lane clogging, block absorbing, big-bodied tackle. However, the modern 4-3 type 1T needs to be way more mobile than the old-style 3-4 NT that people keep looking for the Bills to acquire. That said, Star seems to fit the mold beautifully, albeit not as strong and big as he could be. So, if we could find a young, strong big-bodied Star v2, that is the guy you should want for McD's prototypical 1T tackle.

Great guy & I appreciate his football character, but it’s been 4 years now, he needs to be upgraded.

He is fine as a depth player. And as much I as I would like him to be better now, maybe the injury helps the Bills. He could be tied up for 3 years for super cheap and well outplay his contract while we also find a better version of Star.

Tells ya exactly how much stock to take in the weekly "injury report". Also at is a nice reminder that not matter how well Joe Fan feels like they are informed on what's happening with the team...we know absolutely nothing.

The only questions I have from this is if his PCL is partially torn...why is he practicing fully? Rest days during the weekly might be a good idea.
