Lovie Smith got a raw deal in Chicago in hindsight.  81-63, went 3-3 in the playoffs.  That's not too bad.

 

Smith had talented teams and underperformed in crunch time.  Look, Nagy with a higher win percentage.  Team is like the Bengals of the NFC.  Wish they were better

My biggest beef is on 2nd and 10+ we end up taking a low percentage deep shot to Sanders... which then puts us in 3rd and Long instead of 3rd and Manageable.

 

We infamously did it on 2nd and 17 in the Tenn game. Then we did it TWICE last week.

 

Just take 3-5 yards on 2nd down and get us to 3rd and manageable.

Dorsey. Former QB as OC for me. Solid relationship with Josh already. Probably has his own ideas about where he'd tweak the offense. 

 

The pipeline is already stocked.

 

Plus, as I think one poster already alluded to, we could have our next QB coach-in-waiting in Davis Webb. He's doing the job of an offensive assistant already (did I read somewhere he also works with the defense a little?), works after hours with Josh on each week's gameplans, and can be seen during games working with Josh between drives on the sidelines. Their ritualistic training camp footraces alone get him an interview.

Stupid rule. If a team wants to punish themselves by not hiring the best candidate because if their skin color, well they'll be the one's to suffer.

 

 

It's a smart and effective rule.

 

The absolute worst result of following the Rooney Rule is that you have to give one extra interview. During which if you're smart, you can learn about the tactics of the last team, new plays, philosophies and the other members of the coaching staff of that team and even the players.

 

And while I hear you that you're arguing that only the team loses if they ignore a guy because of the color of his skin, the guy who didn't get an interview is also hurt, in that he's not in the national conversation and doesn't get practice interviewing for the next interview in a situation where they're open to finding the best candidate regardless of skin color or anything but effectiveness.

Doing anything every time you hit a situation makes you predictable and easy to defense. Yeah, I'm with you in that I'd like to see that be the majority of our calls in that situation, no, it shouldn't be all of them. Make them defend the whole field.

Dorsey's there. 

 

I'm not yet convinced they see him as heir apparent, though it's certainly possible.

 

I like Webb a lot as well, but he'll need a few years working his way up the coaching ladder before he's ready for a job that big. When he retires, I hope the Bills offer him an entry level shot.

 

My guess is they go outside, but I could definitely see them going with Dorsey instead.

Don't rule out Chad Hall either. He is going to be an OC somewhere in the not too distant future. If it isn't in Buffalo we will lose him to another opportunity.

Yea personally I think it will be Dorsey because what they won't want to risk is Daboll going to be a HC and Dorsey going to be an OC elsewhere at the same time and losing any continuity with Josh. But Hall is an impressive young coach with contacts in the league and with a guy like Diggs raving about him... he is on teams' radars from what I am told. So there are multiple internal options and then I don't totally rule out them going outside but in my view they'd only do that if there was like an A1 level OC out there and I am struggling to imagine who that might be? You know maybe someone like Frank Reich if he got fired but I just don't see that.
