That guy is so off - this signing actually saves the Bills significant CAP space next year - a little more up front this year and in 2023 with the new TV deal.

Perfectly done by Beane.

Expand

Signing while the cap is low is a bright move. I didn't think it could be done.

This deal and the Dak deal might look very smart a season or two from now.

Still need to see details of payouts/ years.

Jerry Jones might be annoying, but he is not stupid.

Because you're a Bills fan and as a Bills fan, good news is always viewed with a skeptical, nervous eye....until the team wins a SB, its a perfectly natural reaction....particularly if you're a long time Bills fan.....

What a glorious day!

Congratulations to Josh Allen and his family. All the hard work has paid off.

I'm so ready for the season to start. GO BILLS!!!

Even though she's now doubting a different group of young Bills players? I guess some people embrace negative opinions.

Nothing negative about it at all.  If you asked Beane if he thinks those guys need to step up, I’m pretty sure he’d agree.

You've proven my point: it’s not NYS tax, it’s where he is playing. The balance CAN be mitigated.

You're very confused. Allen plays most of his games in NYS. Things like bonuses are in NYS...

You also said where he makes his 'home' which is just totally incorrect.

You were wrong. It happens to all of us. Don't get silly trying to pretend otherwise.

I just had a thought that wasn't pleasant.

Could you imagine if we traded out from taking Mahomes one year and the very next we passed on Allen and took Rosen?

Long enough... my whole life as a Bills Fan has only been filled with failure until last year.

THat's basically the Jets...took a safety instead of Mahomes and then Darnold instead of Allen

You're missing the point. She is one of the brainless analysts who always go for low hanging fruit. Classic example- Josh sucks when it was the majority view. If you always go with consensus you will be right more often than not. Now she's like "young players need to improve." I mean if that's the kind of insight you hitch your wagon to....fair enough.

For ESPN, she’s pretty good.. and everything she said today is accurate.

Josh Allen, elite - accurate

Bills FO, elite - accurate

When asked by Steve Levy what changes for Buffalo when this contracts kicks, she responded that we cant wait years for high draft picks to develop when money gets a bit tighter - accurate

It’s not that serious.

With Mahomes/ Allen/ Herbert/ Burrow etc the AFC should dominate the next 5-10 years.

It's a matter of playoff seeding and wins vs the AFC.

We are locked and loaded, draft well and prosper.

not to mention Mayfield, Jackson, and likely T-Law as well.  (although the Jags still have some big ?s)

Quick check in at the Jets forum:

Cap space and defense winning championships. I'm so glad we're past those days.

Expand

They just don't get it.  The Bills have their core players locked up through at least the 2022 season & Josh's cap number went down by $6.7 million dollars in 2022.  So now if they started the day with less than a million they now have over $7 million in cap room with the new contract, and that's before they rework Edmund's contract if they extend him beyond his 5th year option & lower his 2022 cap hit from it's current projected $12.7 million.   Here's why: Josh will get paid over $46.5 million next year in real $, but $42 million of it is in a fully guaranteed roster option.  Since the $42 million is amortized over 5 years it adds (rounded) $8.5 million to next year's cap .  His base salary, which was $23.1 million has been dropped to $4.1 million.  Add in this year's $16,500,000 signing bonus divided by 5 years to get another $3.3 million & $500 k workout bonus & his cap number is $16.38 million. So his cap hit goes from (unrounded) $23,106,000 to $16,380,000, a cap savings of $6,726,000 even though Josh will more than double in real cash what his 5th year option would have paid next year with no extension.

Meanwhile, the Jets plan is to draft a new QB with a top 5 pick every few years and never have to give him a 2nd contract at big $ and give their fans bragging rights to a lot of cap space going into each offseason.

Here's a link to Josh's cap hits every year of the new contract if you want to see the numbers in a chart:  https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/josh-allen-25102/

I love that Beane got Tre White and Allen done before the competition got done. Definitely saved money with White. The Allen deal seems right on target. But you never know what Jackson and Mayfield get.

Nor will we care.

Oy yi yi.

Lamar can singlehandedly you win a game. Taylor could single handedly make an occasional 6 yard pass out of a broken mess on a single play.

I would say Allen is much better than Lamar but Lamar is scary. He’s gonna get a nice payday.

Expand

The problem is Lamar is one dimensional.  When that one dimension on a QB isn't "good at throwing the football", they end up a regular season hero.  There's ways to lock him down like the Bills and Titans have shown.  Gimmick offenses don't thrive against playoff defenses.
