NFL-related Covid News

Please refer to @SDS pinned post

This is NOT a thread for general covid-19 discussion - state of the pandemic across the country, what death rate is currently etc etc etc

It is to discuss:
-NFL Covid Policy (with references, not your speculation about how they test or what you think they should do)

-Player test results

-How NFL covid results affects teams and games

If policy is 10 days, and we know today is Friday, isn't it just math.....

I don't understand all this talk of "potentially" missing the wildcard game on twitter.

ESPN is reporting he could be back for wild card game if it is on Sunday but not Saturday.

Playoff scenario also says they can still get a first round bye

Oh, boy.  Coach affected is not yet known.

And the Bengals:

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Mike Daniels, who has started 11 games this season, has tested positive for the coronavirus, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and Garafolo reported Saturday morning. Daniels will miss Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens. Another Bengals player has shown symptoms and the team is working through close-contact protocols. A scheduled team walkthrough has been postponed until later Saturday as the team follows contract tracing.

I wish the bills and other teams would do some kind of hotel bubble for the next month. Total lockdown.

Yeah really.  i’m worried Allen will be positive right before a playoff game.  that would be catastrophic for the Bills chances.  The Champion might be the team that can avoid having their star player(s) test positive.

I understand.  I think that's every team's worry.  But I'm not sure locking the players into hotel rooms for a month is the best way to achieve this.

It's mentally very very hard to be pulled out of your normal home, your normal support network if you have family or partner and animals, all the stuff you live with and don't think about on a daily basis that helps you be comfortable, then stuck in a hotel room for a month.

It would be much better for the players, in addition to team meetings which stress this, to do a 1:1 confidential risk factor assessment with the players to suggest ways to decrease exposure risks while they live at home.

Its a month... They'll get over it. I was deployed in Iraq over a year for a 20th of their pay (if i was lucky). Granted I signed up for that... NFLPA would prolly raise a stink though, and its tough to give them a weeks notice ill give you that.

The NFL needs to consider changing their views on covid for the playoffs. Each team should be able to basically designate 2 critical players, such that if they get covid, it will require rescheduling the game to accommodate the quarantine period.

No one wants to see any of these star players get covid. If any team loses its QB due to covid, their odds of winning go almost down to zero.
