NFL-related Covid News

Please refer to @SDS pinned post

This is NOT a thread for general covid-19 discussion - state of the pandemic across the country, what death rate is currently etc etc etc

It is to discuss:
-NFL Covid Policy (with references, not your speculation about how they test or what you think they should do)

-Player test results

-How NFL covid results affects teams and games

What about contact tracing? Or doesn't the NFL bother with that anymore?

That would be why they closed the facility and canceled walk-through - so they have time to complete the contact tracing.

If the guy behaved as he was supposed to with masking up and distancing, should be OK

If he behaved like the Ravens coach and boogied about the building maskless without his contact tracing device while having unreported symptoms, we're hosed

They test again tomorrow before the game, right?

Kinda frustrating, but as long as they test again I'm good with us playing now that they abandoned today's practice and are doing contact tracing.

The team already flew to Denver, right? We weren't doing same day flights.

Yes they’re there already.

Any idea on when the news of results can be expected? Seemed like generally we’ve heard of these things in the 8:00 or 9:00 hour?

Lions got Outbreak #2:

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2020/12/22/detroit-lions-dealing-covid-19-outbreak-cancel-tuesday-practice/4008085001/

"Earlier this morning, we were informed of two positive COVID-19 tests within our organization," the team said in a written statement. "As a precaution, the team practice facility is currently closed and our players and coaches are conducting meetings remotely today. As we adhere to our Intensive Protocols and conduct contact tracing, we will continue to communicate closely with the NFL and its medical staff and gather more information."

The Lions went more than three months between positive COVID tests, from the time players reported in late July until a four-day stretch in early November when they placed three players on the reserve/COVID-19 list and had a staff test positive for the virus on consecutive days.

The close contacts reportedly include interim head coach Darrell Bevell, who calls the offense, and most of the defensive staff. The Lions fired their special teams coordinator this week, so the coaching staff will be shorthanded in all three phases, and the Lions have one less day to prepare than usual because they play the Buccaneers on Saturday this week. That game remains on track to be played as scheduled.

The Cleveland Browns' first-round offensive tackle is dealing with a COVID-19 issue ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

The team announced Thursday it placed Jedrick Wills on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Receiver Ryan Switzer was also placed on the practice squad/COVID-19 list.

Wills identified as a high-risk close contact. He could still play Sunday if he continues to test negative, per a source informed of the situation.

Steelers activate LB Vince Williams from Reserve/COVID-19 list

https://sports.yahoo.com/steelers-activate-lb-vince-williams-184711563.html

Quote

Finally some good news for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The team announced on Wednesday that starting inside linebacker Vince Williams has been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. This means there’s a great chance Williams will be available this weekend when the Steelers take on the Indianapolis Colts.

Williams has missed the last two games after testing positive for COVID-19. The Steelers defense has struggled in recent weeks to slow down the run game so getting Williams back this weekend is timely. The Steelers have a chance to lock up the AFC North crown with a win over the Colts.

IMO this should be minimum allowed for all teams - family members of players who are not on COVID Reserve list should be allowed in with each family in its own section.  Minimum risk for efforts by players' families in this trying times.
