Gugny
This seems like a very short-sighted act by the players. I don't see anything in the new CBA about post-career healthcare. I see a significant drop in padded practices, more days off and more money due to the 17th game. NFL owners "negotiating" with players is like Kramer competing in a karate match against a 9-year-old. 2

eball
Wow, I can't remember as seamless a transition to a new CBA in the NFL. Kudos to both sides for getting it done. Of course, all of the bags of cash coming in made it easier.

machine gun kelly
The only thing surprising from what Garafolo reported was a 9 home game one year and 8 games the second year. It was widely reported the 17th game was going to be a neutral site. I assume this might not be a detail worked out yet, and will change. This was going to happen for those not happy with this new deal. I know several don’t like the extra game or extra wildcard team, but they make a larger % of the pie up to 48.5% and the tv revenue goes up quite a bit. Given they will negotiate streaming, different network options and from ive read DTV won’t be exclusive anymore.
H2o
Is the stipulation still in there about players only being able to physically play in 16 games, that at some point during the season they have to sit one out?
machine gun kelly
At this point the executive committee went to three pre-season games, and a little surprised this wasn’t a negotiating ploy and would have settled on two games and some competitive practices. No sitting out and none of the owners or players not to mention fans will go for that stipulation.

"Creation of new network of hospitals in each team city for former players to receive no cost physicals, preventative care, mental health counseling, and out-patient orthopedic services. Coverage of common surgeries to be phased in during course of deal." How many posters here were offered that before they were released or were retired from their last job? This CBA is the best deal the players have ever been offered. Edited February 26, 2020 by Mr. WEO 3

From the uptick in base salary, to the extra players kept on rosters, to the larger PS where years in the league don't exclude you, the NFL getting extra money, the owners getting extra money, the TV networks who will get additional advertising revenue, it's a laundry list of prospective cash flow for all involved.

Most players don't actually care about their post careers until they run into problems in their post careers, when they have problems they will try and go after the league and the fans to get sympathy for their situation to try and get the league to take care of them. It's all about getting paid now. And personally, I think they should be doing more padded practices to learn proper form and techniques so they aren't doing things wrong and getting hurt. That will probably help keep players healthy more then less actual practice
GG
Just now, MAJBobby said: they are no longer going to punish for Weed. I haven't seen that in any of the stories. This is one of the few mentions in PFT I thought the players would take a tougher stance. Quote As one source explained it, a new CBA also would include dramatically reduced penalties, with suspensions happening only in the event of extreme and repeated disregard of the policy or significant violations of applicable law regarding the possession and use of marijuana.
