Paper only, 10c a bag.

No plastic AT ALL.

Once the initial inconvenience is past, it's not a big deal. I mean, granted, it's about as effective as a ban on straws, but it's not a big deal. It won't be long before local companies are handing out branded re-usable bags, and you'll have more than you could possibly want to so you can transfer all the germs you want every time you go to the grocery store!

I do a breakfast for my staff once a month. One of the restaurants I used delivers in canvas bags. I have a trunk full. I hate free advertising but what the hey.

Oh and speaking of free advertising do all you NYers still get the dealer sticker on your new cars? That ***** would piss me off. The first thing that comes off my car is the dealer’s license plate frame. You can pay me to advertise.

Some places around here are banning the use of re-usable bags because "they spread coronavirus."

Since ***** WEDNESDAY!!!  :wallbash:

The unintended consequences of not having disposable grocery bags are enormous. These cloth bags that one would bring over and over to the grocery store are rife for causing germs to be spread at the checkout counters and to other customers. Raw chicken is transported in them for Heavens sake. I have made the decision to not bring my own bags to the store but pay for the paper bags.

Hoping that the Corona virus scare hitting about 3 weeks after the plastic bag ban hitting will get some reconsideration of that foolish ban.  But, this is NY.  Not a chance the idiots that enacted the ban will think about unintended consequences even though they're staring them in the face.

So, basically all grocery stores have to work the BJ's model.  No bags for you, next.

It'll take 5 extra minutes to empty your car, but you'll still survive, so #### off.

We’ve had the ban here for a few years. You can still get paper or plastic for $.10  NY doesn’t offer that?

...no plastic......Walmart is 5 cents for paper as are Wegmans stores (grocery)....Home Depot provides paper for free..............

I generally enjoy the back and forth between you and @IDBillzFan on the California situation.  What I find funny about this post is that in spite of your fairly chill responses about some of the things that bothered ID, everyone has their hot buttons.  In your best Will Smith “Bad Boys” voice:

“AHHH HELL NO!! I WILL BUST SOMEONES A$$ IF I FIND THAT STICKER ON MY &$#@ING LEXUS!”

Chef be crazy.

Damn straight I be crazy. Imagine if, after you’ve pumped gas, you drive away with a Mobil sticker on your bumper that they put on while you were inside getting a jumbo Snickers bar.

Come on, a gratuitous product-placement Snickers reference?? We’re hawking Mars, Incorporated these days?  Unbelievable!

(I’ll check it out)

Absolutely but here’s the difference. Mars paid me.  Did Frank’s Fantastic Ford Fandango pay the idiot at the red light in front of you?  I think not.

I was told by the clerk at a liquor store that the NY law says they have to charge for the bags. That doesn't seem quite right.

Would you have the same attitude if it was Cal Worthington Ford?

You know the funny thing about this? If you look at the sticker, often times 'license plate cover" is listed as one of the standard features. So it's not just that they put their ad on your car, but sometimes you're even paying for it.

...not true...law says any business collecting NYS sales tax must comply with bag law, which just means zero plastic.......Walmart charges 5 cents, but out of paper and reusables today, so they went back to plastic because Cuomovirus fines don't start until April 1.....Home Depot had paper with zero charge......Rochester based Wegmans Food Markets charges 5 cents for paper, but all monies go to local food banks......

I suspected that it was not law but bs in order to squeeze out another nickle or two from their customers. I'm still absolutely against reusable bags which are nothing but oversized petri dishes.

...marketing stupidity or ingenuity.........Wegman's charges 5 cents for paper but states monies go to food bank charities....Walmart charges 5 cents period.....they must be short on cash....

Never felt right drinking bottled liquor in a plastic bag.

Nice to get back to how it use to be with paper bags. ?

True story. I got a ticket from a Barney Fife because the dealer’s bracket blocked off half of the State’s Initials on my license plate.

I’ve wondered how people got away with bike racks blocking their license plate.  ***** spandex mafia!

That sounds like a trooper, not a local Fife.

What brand of gin?

Aviation Gin.

Promised I'd try it, after Ryan Reynolds spoofed the Peloton commercial ('cause it was a really good spoof).  And it's actually very good.  Was discussing it at work, and someone said "Gin tastes like Christmas."  To which I replied "Yes, but Aviation Gin tastes like Christmas when your twelve years old and there's a dirt bike under the tree."

  • 2 weeks later...

....as a NYS resident, his cover has been blown as woefully unprepared and inept...BUT, it's all Trump's/Fed's fault.......he spends money like a drunkin' sailor with a projected $6 BILLION deficit PRE COVID-19.....SIX trips to PR to emphasize with them because Trump screwed them out of hurricane relief, as if $92 BILLION wasn't enough ( checking politicians' pockets or explaining unmoved sup[plies in warehouses for 2 years, Big Fredo?).....how much money is he peeing away suing Trump for tax returns?........based on what appears to be a huge difference between Upstate NY and the NYC metro area relative to cases and control, would you as Governor draw an arbitrary "line of demarcation" relative to current restrictions in place? .....I am not saying a complete "back to business as normal" for Upstate NY, but somewhat relaxation of the more extreme restrictions....I would think a PARTIAL functioning NYS economy with again, appropriate restrictions would be beneficial versus the current statewide stranglehold precipitated by NYC and their population density...Upstate is terribly paying the price for his ineptitude in NYC prepardness.....don't you think a pro-active, forward thinker would make sure NYC with a "on top of" population of 7-8 MILLION is essentially prepared as well as having a contingency plan (ie. stockpiles) for a catastrophic event?......yet he is being touted as presidential candidate material...GRADE F for ANY type of preparedness...GRADE A+ for pointing the finger and blaming anyone but himself.......go figure.....
