In his eyes, it may not be so "meaningless." I suspect he values going into the playoffs on a strong win (as opposed to a painful loss) is worth taking a chance on injuries. The philosophy -- at least my stab at a guess at it -- is that they'll have two more weeks to get to the point where they can potentially beat a Ravens and Patriots on the road. It's a long shot, but sometimes talented teams get hot at the right time. I've lived in NYC area since college and have seen the Giants pull that trick off twice.

I like the move, but, yes, if Allen is hurt in this game, it will be hard to defend in retrospect.

Your making some valid points , but at the end of the day  all that matters is having our starters on the field in Houston , we can agree on that right ??

I am with McDermott on this one. I don't want a week off after a loss going into the playoffs. I want our starters to play long enough to get some good things going and build momentum.

So it’s a must win game then ? Since we don’t want to be going in to the playoffs after a loss ?

We've seen guys injured by slippery mats. I refuse to play scared and its not like they couldnt use a tune up game against a bad jets team

read a few studies on the high number of knee injuries in football for WR simply running patterns in practice

I just can’t see any positive that comes out of any starter playing. You aren’t going to be able to build on anything against that team. All that can happen is bad IMO. It’s truly senseless. We are in the best spot that we have been in for 20 years. Why risk something dumb? It’s rhetorical. There’s no actual answer.

There aren't enough players on the team to bench every starter. You know that, right?

Not to mention, players get tired and substitute packages.

I wouldn't say must win, but I feel it is important to fo into the playoffs with momentum. If the starters leave the game after a couple scoring drives but the Jets starters beat our backups, I think that is better than our starters resting after the loss to New England.

I do not trust the starters being out there as long as Henry Anderson is too.

Let us not forget

“Let me crawl 4 feet and dive into the back of the guys legs” such an idiot. Joke of a league when fans can find things like these yet the league can’t, or won’t do anything about it.

Brown Beasley Morse Allen and Singletary should be sat. They have nothing to prove or accomplish in 1 regular season game against the jets. There isn’t anything that is going to magically make them better for playing this game to get ready for the playoffs.

White edmunds Hyde should be inactive for the defense possibly a few more if possible Hughes? Phillips? This has to be the dumbest move by this coach yet.

So what your saying they basically want to get the ( bad taste / loss to pats******) out of their mouth with couple of positive drives against the Jets would do that ?

There is though. You know that right?

No, there isn't. At all.

Why don't you list for me every player, and the positions they will play throughout the game, and do not include any starters in it.

Don't forget to include Special Teams, Nickle and Dime packages, Short yardage formations, etc, and, like I said, include substitution for tired players.

Simply put, it can't be done. To even insinuate that no starters should play is ignorant to what goes during the game.

You know that’s not what anyone’s saying. Every starter of the 22 guys on offense and defense is what we are talking about. Which is why I have said any starter that matters several times. And there are enough guys to do that.

FFS you can't sit all the starters.  There are only 9 OL and 5 LBs.

Take 4 away from the DL and the other 5 have to play the full game with one substitution?

Let McDermott do what he is going to do.  The depth will play a lot more snaps and some starting vets won't play but

a few snaps.

LOL, "nothing exceeds like excess" on this board sometimes.

There are NOT enough guys to do this. My god.....it has NEVER happened.  Even in the Bills hay day, they rested a handful of guys and that was it because there are not enough players on an active roster to rest 22 players.

I just don’t think our offense is strong enough to skip a week.  I would play the starters for at least a half.

But then who plays the second half? You can only have so many active players. I would activate 5 to 6 people on offense and 5 to 6 on defense mainly the ones I listed above. It is pure lunacy to put a couple of your main starters on the field for a couple of series. That is pure coach speak bs that somehow this one week of prep is going to give them that extra training they need for he playoffs. There is zero evidence to support that this is somehow going to make everything better in the playoff game. And if they are calling a vanilla gameplan anyways and don’t do well is that going to decrease their confidence for next week? You don’t risk playing your top talent, it’s just stupid.

the obvious choice is obvious.

these are not seasoned vets. they are a young inexperienced team that needs all the experience and momentum they can get going into the postseason.

that said, the risk of injury is there in this game as it is in any game that they play. no HC should be the blame of injury from a game these young men are paid to play. I support his decision to play the starters.

Maybe they are playing for a 1 or 2 seed which means a bye and home playoffs games but I would love an example when there is no meaning to the outcome that they left Brady to play a whole game.

Just now, C.Biscuit97 said:

You can’t be scared.  The pats would play 80 year old Brady in a meaningless week 17 game. Allen and the offense could use the work.  It’s kinda amazing how healthy they have been (knocking on wood).  Can’t fault anyone if something fluky happens.

Yes you can it’s called the coach.

They do it even when they have the one seed clinched.

New England's opponents are also not allowed to hit New England players.

I don’t want them to literally bench every starter. I want the 10-15 guys that we absolutely need in the playoffs to sit in a meaningless game. And there are things you can do to add a guy from the ps here and there to actually do this if it was necessary. I just wanted to put it out there that on a technicality with the RT situation it could be done. Even though I really was talking about all the main players. The only actual starting spot of the 22 where you would run into a numbers issue would be that other tackle. It wasn’t really a big deal I just couldn’t not answer or try to do it when you asked.
