They don't pay an extra 50% on guys because they are paying the FA premium rates. And, curious, what happens when the team invests all that money on elite talent FAs and then they get hurt and you couldn't afford proper depth? Short answer, you are screwed. Pittsburgh couldn’t win a super bowl with them at their prime and cheaper contracts with a hall of fame quarterback. Lot of ways to win in this league, and the stars outside of quarterbacks rarely are the difference in playoffs/super bowl.
