Niagara Dude
If the Bills cut McCoy/Clay/Murphy and Ivory they would have about $101.0 millon in cap space in 2019. Enough for 2-3 Offensive lineman and 2-3 skilled offensive players.McCoy looks done, Murphy is put together with tape and Clay has been total failure from the day he signed. Cutting Ivory would only net 2mill saving and Bills may keep him around for experience. Now if they decide to trade or cut Jerry Hughes this goes over $108.5 mill, this could allow them to sign someone like Jadeveon Clowney . I believe they could get 4th or 5th rounder for Jerry who has had excellent season.

Hughes is having an excellent season and there's no reason to trade him.

OldTimeAFLGuy
Spending requirements By Nick Manchester@NickManchester9 Sep 6, 2018, 7:44pm EDT There is a minimum amount of money that a team can put towards their caps. All 32 teams are required to spend at least 89 percent of their caps. This is called the minimum cash spend requirement, also known as the 89 percent rule. Teams don’t have to spend their 89 percent every year, however. This requirement must be the average amount spent over the four year spending period. The current spending period started in 2017 and will continue through 2020. In other words, a team could have to spend 88 percent of their cap last year and this year, but would have to spend at least 90 percent over the next two years. The second requirement is that the league as a whole must spend 95 percent of its total cap space. So the average percent of cap spending must come out to 95 percent every year, or the remaining money will be given to the players. This rule also applies over the course of the spending period. Inigo Montoya
I'm always hesitant about getting the shiniest toy in free agency, it never seems to work out well and you always end up overpaying. Mario Williams, Suh, Haynesworth come to mind, but I'm sure there are others. This team has lot of holes. I'd rather get a bunch of solid young NFL players coming off their rookie contract than a couple of over priced all stars. We are not just one or two players away from contention, we need a lot of help on this roster. Continue to draft strong, bring in good quality lunch pail type players on reasonable contracts, and build the right way for the long term. Bing Bong
So.. I'm assuming free agents are going to be prorated up as well as re-signs going forward. Sounds like these increases don't make much of a difference as we should mind that every team is getting it and consequently we shouldn't complain if we sign a FA for what would be a ludicrous contract for any position 2 years ago. GETTOTHE50
we are going to be competing with the jets to bolster up the offense. the two organizations will be competing for at least 15 years if all things go well for both.
Virgil
There’s more attractive destinations for FA’s that also have more money. We will have to overpay and I see some disappointment with not getting our guys.
Chandler#81
Refresh my memory. Can $$ be used in trades for a player ala MLB? ie: Shaq Lawson & $8M for Clowny
Call_Of_Ktulu
I still believe that paying for elite talent is the way to go. Having Mack on the Bears defense is like having 12 men on the field. Would you rather have 3 Star Lotulelei's or 1 Mack. I have a bad feeling that we are going to have a FA where we overpay for mediocre talent.

Perfect. 36 minutes ago, Chandler#81 said: Refresh my memory. Can $$ be used in trades for a player ala MLB? ie: Shaq Lawson & $8M for Clowny I don’t think so. But the way around it is to trade for another team’s grossly overpriced contract, like the Browns did with Osweiler.
Dadonkadonk
Sadly there will be lots of teams with money. Beane overspent for Star, Ivory, and Murphy. Bodine was awful but amazingly not as bad as Groy. Has done better with scrap heap street free agents than big name signings. Shady is not getting cut. They wont spend all this cap space and he is still a top back in this league. The OP wanted to cut him but sign three OL. Please explain that? And Hughes is having a great year and is already signed. Why weaken the team at DL when they already have a bum in Murphy and only two decent LBs on the whole team.

There is actually a pretty decent TE crop in free agency this year. I'd like to see them bring in two: possibly someone more experiences as Jared Cook as well as a younger, higher upside player like Maxx Williams. I thought Maxx Williams was going to be a fantasy monster every year he started out healthy. Is he not gelling with Flacco? Or has injury problems? I used to think he was the bomb but feels like he's underperformed in a TE friendly system.
Watkins90
I don't get the hate for Murphy. The guy was coming off a knee injury and stayed relatively healthy this year. Now he has a full offseason of no rehabbing to work on getting stronger. The guy is still fairly young. I could see 2019 being a big year for him. Offensive Lineman aren't exactly diva's, and a lot of them probably love the Bills Mafia atmosphere. As far as WR's go, Josh Allen is doing, and can do a lot in these remaining games to help woo guys. I mean, he's helped turn UDFA Robert Foster into a Rookie of the Week candidate and, along with Zay Jones, legit Fantasy options. Imagine what he could do with an OL in front of him and receivers that actually catch the ball.

I agree, and I feel pretty confident that Beane and McD see it this way also. I expect mid-tier free agents, re-signing their own, and continuing to build through the draft. They need difference-makers on offense though, to take advantage of Allen's potential.
