Should the NFL do away with the national anthem?

People, IMO, tune in and go to the games to get away from real life. I imagine most don't want politics mixed with football/sports.

What do you all think? Take away the stage for players to protest or it's good as is?

No way do we take that away- what, so we can slowly errode away our country bit by bit? It is such a small percentage of players against it and I would say 90 percent of fans want the anthem- its called pride and love for our country. Next lets ban all veterans from the game cuz maybe a libtard doesnt want to sit next to us.

And stop flybys by the Air Force. And ban the colors red, white, and blue. And force the Patriots to change their name.

Hundreds of thousands of people gathering everyday, showing no allegiance except to their own selfishness.

At the same time, people a lot poorer and younger are getting blown up and shot to death and burnt alive to keep them fat and happy.

The fat mob keeps asking for more, more money for their stadiums. More money for their drugs. More medicine because they're eating themselves to death.

Yeah, why not?

This is the kind of leftist liberal propaganda that's chiseling away at the foundation that made this country great. What's next? Remove all borders? One world currency? Take down Mount Rushmore? Outlaw bacon? Please don't take away our bacon.

...succumb to the progressives on yet another bastian of this country....."In God We Trust" is out.....now we are attempting to erase history, ugly or not with any remnants of the confederacy..a once proud nation founded on laws, tolerance, respect is now swirling in the American Standard..."I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." means **** today....and as a WELL respected law enforcement official Beast, I'm shocked you would offer up the suggestion......succumb to players' stage?...seriously?.......we are already becoming a 3rd rate cesspool so why cave to these minions?....

First Mr. Trump, thanks for joining TSW. It's a great place to "banter". Second, the National Anthem is in no way a political song or otherwise political in any way, shape or form.

The National Anthem is a tribute to those brave men and women who currently or have served and/or given their lives for the freedoms we have gained. One of those freedom's is the right to assemble, the right to bare arms, the right to speak freely and the right to protest.

Let us not do away with the very foundation of what this country was founded on or what this country continues to fight for every moment, of every day across the globe.

Go Bills and God Bless the United States of America!

Some people shouldn't have the right to "bare arms".

No the NFL needs to do away with the idiot players who are protesting. If they can't show the courtesy and respect and decorum required for the playing of the national anthem then don't let them on the field until it's over. They don't deserve to be out there to even hear it.

"In God We Trust" should be out as it is clearly against the 1st amendment, or are you against the constitution? All this God stuff didn't happen until the 1950s as propaganda against Communists. The Confederacy lost and tried to fight for states rights for slaves. Read a book and learn about it if you want, don't flaunt it in front of people. I'm from the north and have never seen a confederate statue up here and know plenty about the Civil War, including Robert Lee being against Confederate statues. Also, the pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist, just so you know.

Why does anyone care if a player doesn't want to stand during the national anthem? If no one complained, it wouldn't be an issue. Why does Person B have to acquiesce to the desires of Person A?

It's always been my understanding that one of the hallmarks of freedom is the ability to protest without fear of any form of punishment. If we start to prosecute those who protest, we'll be the same as the countries we claim to despise for the lack of their freedoms.

People get more bent out of shape by a player taking a knee during the anthem than a player who beats the piss out of a woman. That is unbelievably strange to me.

i think the OP was asking about if the anthem should be played, not whether anyone should be required to stand for it..

I understand that. My response was to some of the other responses to the poster.

I thought that was clear since I posted the comment I was responding to.

Play it, and let players elect to do what they want. They have that freedom. I'm free to judge them on their actions as well.

What is wrong with some of you? Never take away the anthem from any of the sporting events.

Left wing garbage. They want to protest. Let them. See how well that worked out for Kaepernick.

No one who is reasonable condones needless violence of people of color, but defaming the anthem and our military and veterans is reprehensible.

I can't believe these comments.

Those who fail to stand for the anthem have never said they have anything against the military and/or veterans, to my knowledge.

This is one of those strawman arguments made by people, who in my opinion, are trying to create a boogeyman for us to collectively hate, because of their own political opinions.

playing the anthem should be continued IMHO, and.. let the individual player make the decision whether to stand..anything negative or positive that results from said player's decision will be judged..

So just to be clear, you're in favor of discrimination of labor against people exercising their 1st Amendment privileges, have somehow conflated the national anthem and the support of our military, and suggest that a reasonable person would condone violence against a person of color if deemed necessary. Congrats.

I don't understand your comment.

Are you saying NFL players should be punished for not standing during the anthem because someone wore pig socks?
