stony Posted November 1, 2016 Share Posted November 1, 2016 Teams throw the ball a lot. Everyone except the Bills. Having quality, even average DBs is essential today, and going forward in the NFL. Rate Gilmore however you want, but when the team you root for doesn't have a QB who is capable of outscoring the other team, the value of the DB tends to go up. Sucks. But paying 10-12 million (he'll easily get this in FA) is easier to swallow when you realize your team stinks at scoring points through the air. Go Bills! folz Posted November 1, 2016 Share Posted November 1, 2016 I'm sorry, Gilmore was definitely in man coverage on the 53-yard TD to Hogan. Even if there was supposed to be help over the top, Gilmore was a clear 7 yards behind Hogan on the play. It's not like they were in zone and he was releasing the player to the safety to stay in his zone. He was supposed to stay with Hogan, but he got torched. A safety over top may have prevented the TD, but the Pats still would have had like a 30-yard reception because Gilmore got burned. How many times in the NFL do you see a corner and safety converge on a receiver. I saw it happen at least twice on the other side of the field yesterday with Darby. So, even if there was supposed to be safety help, Gilmore still should have been on Hogan, not chasing him seven yards back. If he was tight and Hogan made a great play on the ball, you could just say great play but not put it on Gilmore (like in the Jets game). But Hogan turned him around and left him in the dust. I like Gilmore and do think he is a good corner, but no way is he worth top 5 money (which is what he's asking for)...and if he is playing soft, cautious, etc. to avoid injury as others have suggested, then I'm fine to see him walk no matter what the price. He plays soft, doesn't tackle well, gets run over often, gets burned for big plays by no-name receivers, and points his finger at others before the play is over. That's consistent? Laughable. He was at least 5 yards behind Chris Hogan on that 53 yard TD....CHRIS HOGAN. His head was spinning around and looked as clueless as an undrafted rookie on that play. This has always been his issue. He has the ability to be better. Used to be that he would cruise too soon on plays and get surprised by late arriving throws and give up TD's to turds like Stephen Hill who should never be able to beat him. Then he has had issues with interest in run support. He's a bitchass........the problem is entirely between his ears. That said, playing for an organization that doesn't always seem committed to winning can tip prone players over the edge to making "business decisions" between the lines. This is a big reason I don't much care for Rex Ryan. He might be a players coach and the players love him. But the players don't look to play their hearts out for him like they did for Jauron. He will demand a large amount of money and i dont feel that CB should be paid a lot unless they are really really good. Evidently, there is mutual interest as a team needs a CB; Charlotte is 20 min from Rock Hill. He said the entire DB unit is a mess of communication. Half the field plays some defense the other plays a different. Communication break downs and lack of knowledge on complex coverage schemes is making situations worse. The players feel they can plays but aren't being put in good situations. Gilmore is frustrated, has worked extra with Darby on film but the individual units aren't gelling to work together.
