Single payer is not even an option in  Constitutional Republic which I think we still are. Single payer assumes the government can control prices and wages for an entire segment of the population which is totally against any protections reserved to the People.

Yeah but telling the poor to die because of illnesses that can be easily treated is barbaric

As disgusting as slavery

Coincidentally, so is telling them to get vaccinated against diseases that can easily kill them.

Funny ol' world, inn'it?

Anyone else also remember how Obamacare was also going to cut down on the lines at the emergency room? Actually had the opposite effect didn't it since now people could go there instead of waiting on an appointment

Soon, we’re going to wake up in a world where we have VA-style health care. I’m a veteran, so let me tell you – you don’t want VA-style healthcare. Ask a veteran you know, they’ll say the same.

If you ask this veteran he'll tell you the exact opposite.  I get a lot of my care at the VA.  I get right in and the care is as good as I can get with my private insurance (which I HATE).

I did start going to VA in 1977 and it was BAD at that time.  When I got a real job I used private insurance and a few years ago I went back to VA due to the ever increasing cost of insurance and high deductibles and co pays.  Color me very impressed.  They've come a long way.

Oh brother! Is there an epidemic of poor people dying in the United States? This isn’t 1500 France!

And which Federal Administration do credit for making those changes?

GHW Bush

WJ Clinton

GW Bush

BH Obama

DJ Trump

Asking for a friend.

Tell your friend I don't know and I don't care.  It's good now so that's all I care about.

I started going back there in late Obama/early Trump administration so I wouldn't give him all the credit.

The Mission act of 2018 has made more improvements. It was passed by congress  347-70. So I don't think we can give all credit to Trump and Rs.

bottom line is its providing quality care to veterans based on my experience. Can't i just be happy about that without getting all political about it?

I thought the US had the best health care system and by far the most expensive

We also have the worst diet and several cities that are almost war zones

But don't let those silly details get in the way of your Narrative

The myth that doctors keep a population alive longer.  Our medical system treats sick people, it doesn't keep people healthy.

How can the poor have a healthy diet ?  Why can't law enforcement bring order to problem cities ?

Have read (but haven't confirmed) that the US also treats babies that are born but will die very shortly after birth as live births but that many other countries treat them as still births (I.e., they don't count against life expectancy statistics).  If that is accurate, adjusting the treatment of those births would move the US up in the rankings.

Not just 'the poor' have an unhealthy diet.  Fast food, junk food, and processed foods cause alot of America's health problems across social strata.

And 'the poor' in the United States are better fed than most of the rest of the world

Law Enforcement cannot bring 'order' to the problem cities for several reasons.

Chief among these is the failed "War on Drugs".  Prohibition leads to black markets.  Black markets lead to turf wars.  Turf wars lead to violence

Another is a culture treating LEO as 'the enemy' rather than respecting the service they provide to the general public

...the woefully inept, unqualified cardboard cutout propped up by ex-Clintonites from the "criminal syndicate" was charged with carrying on the bloviating pant suit's vision for universal health care....SMH......

I still think that the massive income inequality is a major problem. Just trying to have a honest and civil exchange to major problems that need solutions.

Massive income inequality between whom?

The median HOUSEHOLD income is around 50k per year. What do you think the median household iPhone number is? Or smart watch? How much do those things cost?

Imagine if instead of getting everyone in the family the new iPhone, they got McDonald’s less and bought some fresh produce.

Maybe thats “unreasonable”. I find it hard to feel sympathy for the poor who just “can’t” eat healthy but are 300 lbs at 25. These folks aren’t starving, clearly they are affording something.

That's the problem , how to solve it is the big question. I don't blame you for retiring in Florida , a state with no income tax. I retired here on a small enough pension to pay very small state income tax.

Wealth or income inequality?

I would think total wealth . Someone earning minimum wage does not have the higher education of a engineer. The gap gets much wider after that example.

High income invested wisely becomes higher wealth  to me.

It could be the problem or not

Are you talking about wealth or income?

Also, I’d like to know why you think the disparity matters or is problematic.

One problem is the working poor who earn too much to qualify for medicaid , who cannot afford medical and dental coverage if their job does not provide it. Barely living paycheck to paycheck with no savings is a real problem for too many.

So is the answer to give them more handouts, or give them opportunities to find a better-paying jobs?
