As discussed ad nauseum- we have many holes- QB, LB, DE, CB TE.... oh yeah a big !@#$ing hole now at RG too. Talk us off the ledge. How do the 2013 Bills put a better team on the field then last year's monstrosity?

One or more of Kevin Burnett, Karlos Dansby, Bart Scott and Calvin Pace. My choice would be Burnett (just turned 30 and a pretty good year last year).

Brandon Moore and Dustin Keller of the NYets.

If we signed these guys and a WR (Gibson or Alexander) I'd be happy....

We need to find about 10 Fred Jackson clones (overachieving UDFA's). I'm serious- we need to find guys who come at a reasonable price, young, talented and coachable. Ohhh, and one other thing- they have to be willing to run through a brick wall for the coach or coordinator. They are out there, we have veteran leadership and a group of young, hungry UDFA's would at least give us something to watch as they develop. I'm ok with not signing numerous veteran FA's, saving our picks (or trading down for more) and seeing how this plays out. Marrone is a coach that players respect which equates to performance under normal circumstances- then again, this is Buffalo...but we'll see. Go Bills

Let's discuss this. I am going to be realistic and use the mid tier parameters removing Walker Jennings Wallace Cook etc. From the discussion.

For me ....please let it be Delanie Walker.

That's your stretch the field TE move the chains WR ST gunner and fullback all in one player.

Essentially he could fill the roles of Nelson Martin McIntyre and be the athletic TE the Bills have always lacked

The Brandon brothers: OG Moore & TE Myers.

Everybody relax; it won't happen this year. As George Allen would not have said, "the future is not now."

According to ESPN and NFL.com, there are/were about 595 Free Agents (who were on an NFL roster last year).

Only about 15% of them have signed thus far. That means that there are still about 500 FAs available. Maybe not all

of the big names, but plenty of good players. The sky hasn't fallen yet for our Bills!

I dunno, I think the sky might have fallen sometime in 2005. We are just waiting for it to rise again.

How do you know Marrone is a coach players respect? I don't understand how some people think they know how the coaches are going to be or how they will coach. The coaching staff hasn't said boo since they were hired.

No worries. That old fox Buddy Nix is playing possum. First he arranges for that phone call recording "leak". Then sits out day one of free agency after losing his RG and cutting the best QB on his roster (not saying it was a bad move for the long term, but he was the best QB on the Bills roster). Don't you see? He is lulling everyone into a false sense of security, then he will pounce in the coming weeks and go FA shopping in the bargain bin to fill most of the holes. Then fill the rest with the draft!

In all seriousness, Nix has stated in the past that you build through the draft and when you are close to contending you supplement with free agents. The Bills are rebuilding again and are not close to contending. Nix knows this and is sticking to his philosophy. What seems to be an aberration though is last years free agency, unless Nix really thought they were close to contending???

pace and moore would be nice cheap options, they have money to spend on a couple of solid guys if they find the right one

Pace was probably the worst rush LB in football last year. Moore would be a solid addition, but he might be more expensive than you think.

It isn't too difficult to search out background on the Coach and find where current and ex NFL players have discussed their interaction with Marrone. I am looking forward to seeing how he does with this team. I truly believe last year the Bills played uninspired football.

This year, on the other hand, I believe Marrone will take a group (albeit a small group) of talented veterans and a number of rookies and UDFA's and get maximum production from them. We may not have a winning season, but we will at least have players who respond to the coach and D Coordinator. Unlike Gailey and Wanny, I firmly believe Marrone and Pettine will demand excellence rather than mediocrity. It starts with veteran leadership and it has to spread throughout the team. We need a hard nosed group of young rookies and UDFA's. Looking forward to the season.

Q: Can you talk about your general thoughts of Coach Marrone as a person and a coach?

A: As a person, I think he is a great guy. Obviously having played for him as my o-line coach in New York we became friends. He was the first coach that I ever had that was close to my age in my career. We developed a personal relationship with our families together and things like that. I think he is a great guy. I think he is a good person and he is a great friend.

As far as a coach, I had four great offensive line coaches when I played and he was my third one. He was a coach that brought a lot of insight to the game both from a player’s perspective, because he did play in the NFL and got a couple of years in.

I thought what was really cool about him was that not only did he know how to coach the game, but he knew the history of the game. He would teach us about the history of the 4-3 and 3-4 defenses and what coach developed this scheme or that scheme. That was pretty cool from a player’s standpoint because who was someone who appreciates the game itself. He was a coach that knew what he was talking about and all of the players respected him highly for his coaching ability.
