  1. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/chiefs-bills-trade-that-landed-kansas-city-patrick-mahomes-paid-major-dividends-for-both-teams/ Tre'Davious White (CB), Tremaine Edmunds (LB), Dion Dawkins (T), Zay Jones (WR), Siran Neal (CB) for Patrick Mahomes Removing the hindsight goggles, I think I vote “yes” on this trade. I’m no NFL scout, but I remember watching the highlight film of Mahomes. My takeaway was “that freelancing magic doesn’t translate, but oh, what fun.”
  2. The Bills traded pick #10 to the Chiefs who selected Mahomes. If they didn’t do that, there’s no guarantee that Mahomes is a Chief today. It’s great that we got Tre, Dawkins, Zay Jones (lol), Edmunds (lol) and Neal (lol). When does the parade start?
  3. Unless you are convinced that the Bills were taking Mahomes at 27 (and that he would still be there), then the Bills didn't "give" the Chiefs Mahomes. They traded the pick and ended up with Tre White, (ultimately) Edmunds, Dawkins, Zay Jones and Neal.
  4. Warner was the 70th pick overall in the 3rd round. I think Edmunds was the 16th overall pick in the first round.
  5. To think we could have had Warner instead of Edmunds....
  6. Couldn’t agree more E-Man. The Jets will always be the Jests until they have new owners. Some owners just Don’t know how to get out of their own way. Jerrah is another. For Wilson’s sake, I love the idea of him becoming the backup for the Giants, and with the way their QB plays and gets hurt, I’d love for Wilson to come in and win three straight. If anyone can get a lot out of him, Dabbs can do it. I know they had a crappy year, but their fundamental flaw is Daboll forgot what McBeane did. They made the playoffs by accident in 2017, but purged old talent and bloated contracts to remake the Bill team. 6-10 as everyone knows taking their lumps drafting Allen and Edmunds, turned into 10-6, and that’s only because they had nothing to play of in the last game with the Jets. If we played the starters we would’ve been 11-5. That was a mistake as they lost their rhythm and it showed in that loss to the Texans. You guys know the rest in 13-3, 11-6, 13-3, and 11-6. Daboll needs to follow the playbook, purge bad contracts, buy a line like the Bills did and keep working the problem until they have a solid O Line. They also need a QB. Jones is t going to get it done.
  7. I think considering we generally keep 5 DT's and we currently have only 1 on the Roster, 1 DT is kind of light. At the very least, we'd take 2 DT's and 1 DE in your scenario - considering between Groot, Von, and Kingsley we only need 2 DE's versus 4 DT's. I also don't see us keeping all 10 picks either (we have 9 now, but we'll have 10 after the Edmunds compensatory). Beane will use picks to move up at least once or twice to secure the talent he covets at the positions we're in need.
  8. Which is why Allen will never win MVP and why guys like Edmunds and Smith are pro bowlers. The narrative is the lack of consistency with Allen (which to be fair, is accurate) but at the same time, the other guys will never win you the game on their own, Allen and Lamar can and have.
  9. That looks like Tremaine Edmunds Pro bowl year. Which is kind of my point. Reading a stat sheet is all these voters do just like you did.
  10. I'm excited about Brady and Babbich because they're hot names across the NFL for a reason. Brady coordinated arguably the best passing offense in College Football history and has actually served as an OC in the NFL and found some success with minimal talent and Teddy Bridgewater at QB. As far as Babbich goes... everything he's touches has turned to Gold. He was the Safeties coach in the beginning of Poyer and Hyde's career and the year he shifted to LB coach was Edmunds best year and Milano was an All-Pro and then this year we all saw Bernard plus he turned Dodson into a pretty good LB. That's why I'm excited. And most coaches do promote from within. Perhaps it's time for you to consider that promoting from within is actually a good sign.
  11. Like Elam? Cody Ford? Dawson Knox? Tremaine Edmunds? Just messing with you. No GM gets home run picks on every trade up. I’d rather he trade down and accumulate capital in the early rounds.
  12. I mean, I hope we can maybe stretch one or two of them out for a bit longer. I think it's possible for Knox to bounce back, Diggs to have a little more in the tank and Tre to at least turn in a solid season or two. But it's coming. I hope for 1-2 WRs, and a bunch of young defenders to replenish that corps. We can't get Von off the books this year but we can get a guy in the pipeline. My current wish list this year is WR2>>>>>>S/C>WR4/DL/CB. With 9 current picks in the draft (and possibly a 10th with Edmunds Supplemental) I think it's possible to possible to hit on 3 as immediate starters, and a few that might need a year of seasoning.
  13. Why wouldn't you draft another WR high even with Diggs? That's an odd take. Cinci took Burrow and Higgins in the same draft, despite having Tyler Boyd--and then drafted Chase (#5 overall) one year after Burrow and Higgins (33rd overall). Dallas drafted Lamb (5th overall) despite having Cooper. Miami brought in Hill, even though they drafted a 1000+ WR (Waddle at #6 overall) the year before. SF drafted Aiyuk (in the 1st), despite drafting Samuel the year before and Kittle 2 years before. That's 3 teams that spent high on WR despite having a solid room already. Anyway...2 drafted WR on the roster after 7 drafts?--and both of them in the last 2 drafts. There were 3 drafts before the Diggs trade. WR was a need. They drafted Zay Jones in 2017, then got rid of him 2 years later. The next year they took Josh Allen...and traded up for Edmunds, with Ridley and DJ Moore just below. Still needing a true WR1 (John Brown was a flash in the pan for 2 teams) in 2019, Beane went with Cody Ford AJ Brown and Metcalf there. Can anyone demonstrate that Beane has recognized the need for WR and addressed it significantly in the draft (with picks, not picks given away)the past 7 years? Currently, an aging Diggs ("1st rounder"), Shakir as a #3/4, and a guy drafted straight to the IR.
  14. Top notch scouting is the real key in these times of salary caps and franchise QBs who take a big chunk of the available cash. The best teams will have more hits than misses in the draft and FA. Fortunately, the Bills personnel staff have been very good at finding mid to late round picks that have become serviceable to very players. Cheap labor that can step in and get the job done when others become unaffordable high-priced veterans. Bernard taking the place of Edmunds is a prime example, and it looks like he'll not only cheaper, but better on the field. Win win. That's the sort of strategic roster-building that will keep the window open as long as they have Josh.
  15. My guess is Bean moves up if his target is there. I fully support it if it's not the Edmunds of WRs.
  16. Yeah, I think some are still operating under the assumption that the Edmunds compensatory that's coming is an extra 3rd. It's not. It just replaces the 3rd we already traded away. Moving up 10 picks with some extra picks on Day 3 isn't possible. Every year, fans talk about trading next year's picks. He hasn't done that and with our books the way they are, he can't really afford to.
  17. Our luck is maddening sometimes. Mahomes had a lot of buzz going into the 2017 Draft. There were questions though. He was a late riser after a wild workout and good interviews. At that time, being a Texas Tech QB was like wearing a Scarlet Letter. Many had come through that system and put up wild numbers and then not translated to the NFL level. I think McDermott and Beane's professional courtesy to Doug Whaley and Tyrod Taylor did us in. There's no way McDermott came in not knowing Beane was going to be coming with him. But rather than immediately take him on, they decided to let Whaley and his staff see through all the work they put in for 10 months. But they weren't going to select the QB of the future without Beane fully at the helm. And I think McDermott knew Taylor wasn't the guy. But for building goodwill in the locker room, he wanted to give him a year rather than come in and clean house. Maybe he even felt that there was a slight chance Taylor could grow under different coaching. There was also a thought at the time of the 2017 Draft that the 2018 Draft had much better QB's and an all time class. I remember thinking when we made the trade "with our luck, Mahomes will be a Franchise QB and the guy we take next year will bust". Luckily, our selection would turn into a most likely Future HOF'er. But, unbelievably, the guy we gave to the Chiefs would not only turn out to be a Franchise QB - but maybe the greatest QB of all time 🤦 I used to take solace in the fact that they got Mahomes and we got ammo that turned into Allen, White, and Edmunds. But then Edmunds left and White is destroyed. Still - it's hard to cry over Josh Allen. Who knows if Mahomes would have became the same guy under this regime and supporting cast as he did under Andy Reid.
  18. Read awhile back somewhere that for the most part players that are really good or great, either get re-signed or tagged before they ever hit the market. And the ones that do become actual free agents, there's often a reason for it i.e. T Edmunds. There are some that are good signings, but not that many and most of the good ones that are worth the money they sign for are the ones that get signed weeks after FA starts.
  19. Throw Edmunds in with the Fields trade and we'll be cooking with gas
  20. Question. We are going to have an extra 3rd, the comp for Edmunds. If we want our guy, would that pick and 28 get us into the top 15?
  21. Were getting a 3rd for losing edmunds
  22. Hopefully will get a3rd compensatory pick for losing Edmunds in FA last year

  24. Looking back it is amazing the way things fell into place. First, we went into the draft -- or rather into the draft season -- with 2 first round picks, but both of them were late (back-to-back in the 20s). One of those picks came via the trade with KC on the swap of 1st round picks the year before, where KC netted Mahomes 10th overall. The other came via the Bills having made it to the playoffs for the first time in 17 seasons the year before. Beane also traded Tyrod Taylor to Cleveland in exchange for the 1st pick in the 3rd round. Beane traded Cordy Glenn to the Bengals to move up 10 spots, which had us sitting at 12 on draft day. When the Jets made the move with Indy to move up from 6 to 3, everyone knew they were going QB there. Everyone also knew that Cleveland was going QB at #1 overall. Knowing that at least 2 QBs would be off the board by the time the 4th pick came along, Beane had tried all through the pre-draft to move up. He tried to work out a deal with his old mentor from Carolina (who in 2018 was GM of the Giants) to move up to 2, but they were not willing to budge. After having taken their QB at #1 (Mayfield), Beane thought he had a deal in place with the Browns to move up for their next pick (at 4) but they reneged and took Denzel Ward. The Ward pick had a rippling affect, because the Broncos (like most pundits) thought that the Browns would take Bradley Chubb there -- and when Chubb was available, the Broncos themselves backed off the trade they had in the works with the Bills (at least the Broncos made it clear ahead of time that the trade was contingent on the one player they coveted NOT still being on the board). Both of those deals would have involved Beane parting ways with that other 1st round pick. At #6, the Colts were dead set on Nelson and were unwilling to move down. Tampa was willing to trade down to 12 but they wanted the same deal that had been in place with Cleveland/Denver, the Bills other first round pick. The two sides eventually agreed to the Bills' two second round picks. On an unrelated note, Beane used that pick acquired from Cleveland in the Tyrod trade to move up in the 1st to net Edmunds. Funny that Edmunds was almost as polarizing a figure in Buffalo as Josh. LOL
