  1. The punch card reference was merely an example of outdated technology. Whether these government systems rely on that or not, its a given they have a lot of outdated technology and processes. The core of Social Security is member/customer information and payment processes. There are lots of current technologies that support those functions. Right off the shelf with possibility some configuration or custom code for specific use cases. And while transforming an organizations business process and supporting technologies can be difficult, and costly, it is necessary at times and can result in the gain of efficiency, cost reduction, and an increase in maintainability. I see it more of a replacement than a re-write. The other thing to keep in mind is the technical staff. While these COBOL systems still function you're not going to find many IT professionals, with the exception of some older workers, that are eager to spend their lives working with outdated technologies. Younger workers want to work on current technologies and cutting edge stuff. I don't blame them. My company had a program about 2014-2015 where they hired around 200 college grads for practical training to do all sorts of systems work. It was mostly successful. But the grads assigned to COBOL and other outdated work quit and went elsewhere for fresh opportunities as soon as their bonus retention restrictions expired.
  2. Yes. In my opinion, the difference is that Nazis saw/see Jews as a completely inferior race, the root of all social problems in Germany and the world, and a plague that needed to be exterminated. Palestinians see Jews as an invading force that is pushing them away from their homeland. And even then, not every Jew - just the hardcore Zionists.
  3. Oh I fully agree. But in the right system, with the right coaching and a year or two working on his passing....he's got the athletic profile you want. Kid COULD develop into a star. He could also (and my bet) be Anthony Richardson 2.0.
  4. about voter fraud: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/north-carolina-investigators-zero-absentee-ballots-unresolved-house-race-n944731
  5. I mean we did draft Ulofoshio last year. Another 5th rounder...more athletic than Paul. Takes 1 season plus as a LB in our system to "play fast", not think and naturally be in position. Took Bernard, Dorian, etc. So Bernard, Milano, Dorian, Ulofoshio, Joe Andreesen. I disagree with Eddie O, which is really Eddie U 😄. I don't see Paul stepping into that LB4 role better than Ulofoshio this year. Not concerned about LB depth right now
  6. Lyles is known for his closing speed but working on his get off he actually beat Coleman last february in a 60m race. Tyreek's speed on the field is amazing and it's respectable on the track but Lyles is possibly best in the world at 3 different distances.
  7. One of the biggest thing Beane gotta do is sit McD down and tell him the defensive system gotta change.
  8. Well, not really. He's a rather bright guy. The rest of the story from 5 years ago (You guys really dig for this marginal stories. He's not a threat. He had to be persuaded to run again). “The first African Americans sent into the English colonies came to Point Comfort in 1619. They were slaves, they had been captured against their will, but they landed in colonies that didn’t have slavery — there were no laws about slavery in the colonies at that time,” Kaine explained. “The United States didn’t inherit slavery from anybody. We created it. It got created by the Virginia General Assembly and the legislatures of other states. It got created by the court systems in colonial America that enforced fugitive slave laws.” In a statement to National Review, Kaine attempted to clarify his remarks — which were much longer than the prepared speech released by his office. “There was no law mandating slavery on our shores when African slaves came ashore in 1619. Did slavery already exist in the world? Of course. But not in the laws of colonial America at the time,” Kaine explained. “We could have been a nation completely without the institution. But colonial legislatures and courts, and eventually the U.S. legal system, created the institution on our shores and maintained slavery until the 13th Amendment. As I said, we didn’t inherit it. We chose to create it.”
  9. I really hope there is some clarity to this. Big colleges that rely on football for money have been jumping on the heads of victims for 100 years. The local police and politicians have all helped them squash these types of things forever also. Sadly this is what that screams to me. They just made it go away and because he wasn't 18 yet they just blew it off systemically somehow under the he will grow up mantra or something. Either way I hate it and there were lots of players available and they could have avoided this.

  11. Levi summed it up just right. The only election in my lifetime that I did not vote was 2016. The choices were too awful. After watching how democrats and their media brethren behaved 2016-2020 (impeachment clown shows, collusion mania, Pelosi tearing up SOTU, covid hypocrisy, checking off on mostly peaceful riots, etc) I ran to vote for Trump and not because I suddenly liked him. I voted for him over Kamala because of the continued nonsense from democrats. The “don’t say gay” lies. Being called a bigoted homophobe because I don’t believe third grade students should have access to library books about anal. Called a racist/fascist/nazi for wanting existing border laws enforced. The absurdity of “he’s mentally fit for the presidency” trumpeted here and in the media. All the issues being described as 80/20 are exactly that and dems are on the wrong side of them all. There’s nothing to like about them. Therefore, Trump.
  12. That's a point I've been trying to make around here for a couple of years now. My own opinion is that the Bills have had so much success in the last 5 years that it's hard for me to argue that their philosophy about how to build a team is wrong. That's not to say that there is no room for argument, because there certainly is. For example, I have said for a long time the same thing several other people say, namely, the bills need a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball and Beane's only attempt to get one, Miller, didn't work out. But with respect to running back, I think it's quite clear that the Bills philosophy is that it is not wise to spend big dollars for a difference maker at that position. And that was my point in this thread - it isn't enough to say that Cook is worth x million dollars. He may be worth that in the market, but within the Bills system he is not.
  13. I remember reading about this a while back. The contract includes a provision that if a holographic replay system is ever invented, the city has to buy it for them.
  14. I believe the anti-Josh media among ex-players is very much race based.
  15. He looks like a perfect fit at FS in McD's system. McBeane clearly had their eye on this guy, and Washington wasn't using him last year- why didn't we trade a late round pick for him at the deadline? He certainly could've helped our playoff Defense.
  16. And my point is firing more people won't help. No one said the system was great. How do you fix that? Fire 100 more people and you might only spend 24 hours on hold.
  17. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14688153/midwest-city-downtown-locals-scared-mad-max.html Midwest city's downtown is now Mad Max-style hellhole where locals are scared to go out after 8pm Surging crime and a diminishing police presence has turned a Missouri city into a hellhole, leaving locals afraid to step outside after dark. Downtown Kansas City has become a hotspot for illegal street racing and reckless ATV and dirt bike riders tearing through the neighborhoods - chaos that escalated last month when a police officer was hit by an ATV, Fox 4 reported. Now, frustrated business owners and locals are weighing whether to abandon downtown altogether, blaming the Dem-run city's leadership and law enforcement for failing to curb the chaos and restore a sense of safety. 'This isn't a race issue, this isn't a political issue, this is a safety issue,' David Lopez, a local business owner, told Fox News, noting how chaos right outside is a constant occurrence, posing extreme danger for the surrounding community. 'I feel as though this city is about unsafe as it's been since my family has been at 207 Southwest Boulevard, and that's 45 years this September,' he added. 'When things out of your control start to chip away at the very foundation of what you've done for four generations, it hurts.' Not only is the community feeling the impact as they return to the safety of their own homes by nightfall, but long-standing local businesses are bearing the brunt - watching foot traffic vanish and revenue slip away. 'People are going to leave - that's it,' Lopez, the general manager at Manny's Mexican Restaurant, added to the outlet. Democrat Mayor Quinton Lucas has faced growing anger over the mounting chaos.
  18. It's obviously a prudential calculation. My sense is that FA has changed somewhat. It is rarely an opportunity to grab a player that will have transformative effect. The best players just don't become available. In that case, retaining players that fit your system and that you have reasonable confidence are either ascending, or likely to retain most of their efficacy while the contract is hard to get out of, is the most rational approach. No doubt, it would be a more palatable method if Beane hit on a few elite playmakers early in the draft.
  19. It seems redundant for the Chiefs to re-sign him as Xavier Worthy can take the top off a defense and Rashee Rice should be back (barring suspension). I'd be interested if the injuries didn't slow him down. Hard to tell. Also, his reason for wanting out of Baltimore was the offensive system. Not sure if Brady's system is the right fit for him.
  20. Stay focused here LOL, we used a completely different system this year. He was in a different role as well. WITHIN that system you would see a proportional increase. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.
  21. Here are the rules the Dems want us to follow: - let in as many illegals as possible, even pay to fly them in - give them court dates 3-4 years in the future that they won't show to - try and track them down but you can't ask if they are legal because that's racist - if they are arrested in a sanctuary city then release them as fast as possible so ICE can't get them - allow them to wait years for the legal process to take place - in the meantime they are having kids that are automatically citizens by birth right - wait for Dems to get power and grant all of them citizenship anyhow Is that right? So it's rigged and they want us to play by the rules? How about if you came here illegally then you get deported? Sounds fair to me
  22. I’ll be the bad guy and say I’m not a TJ Watt guy. Just like his brother he crushes stats becuase he freelances on defense. It results in impressive numbers but part of the reason the team never wins anything becuase he doesn’t play within the system. Just what I see when I watch him. JJ was way worse with his gap integrity. Anyway not a fan and he isn’t getting moved anyways.
  23. I agree. Listening to the pressers today. These are not bad guys who tried to beat the system. Both acknowledge that it is their responsibility to know what they are putting in their bodies and that they failed in that area. That is why they are not appealing the suspensions and are taking their punishment. Listening to Beane, based on their prior records he had no reason to doubt their sincerity and move forward.
  24. "Fiscally conservative, socially liberal." Depends how you ask the question. One take from a group that fits the description: https://www.adamsmith.org/blog/politics-government/fiscally-conservative-socially-liberal The problem is with how political coalitions form in our two-party/first past the post/federalist system. I live in what is now a deep blue state. The percentage supporting socially conservative views is maybe 30%. The liberal legislature keeps trying to undo a 1990s thing called the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, which basically requires a ballot measure to increase taxes. We've had a few of those. They all fail. People don't want higher taxes and higher spending either. So this kind of works in a state with high median levels of education, no particularly strong ethnic voting blocs, etc. I can't see it working in New York or Arkansas. The best Musk can do is to fulfill the Perot role, by dragging Dems and their candidates toward the center.
  25. The way I look at it there's a major political and social transition taking place where the needs of America the country are now being prioritized over the needs of America the Empire. This is what the voters have demanded. As we've all lived under a system where those in power served the Empire its something many do not understand or many that are dependent on the Empire do not want.
