Brady has an annoying habit of shortening the field on himself early in the game.  Would like to see him attack the edge more to soften things up (the way NE/Brady always did to us) and not be afraid to take a deep shot early.  Glad to see Moore on the jet sweep today.  This offense still needs one burner to take the top off a good defense and keep it honest. Maybe when we ditch Samuel this off-season we can get that WR.  I get the aversion to trick plays, but his 2 PAT tries could use a little imagination.  No risk on those.

from all the signs since brady took over, this is going to be an establish the run.   run as much as possible as long as its working.

its definately a play it safe, take what the D is giving you offense.   when the game dictates we have to be more aggressive we will.

the one thing i dont like is by that nature, by the time we figure out its high time to get more agressive we are already in the hole.

as far as today the Bills came in wanting to do as little as possible since they play thursday and the jets ended being the perfect team.

they pulled a KC and did pretty much the min that they needed to extract a win and get out of there.

I hate this offensive philosophy when you have one of, if not the, most talented QBs to ever step foot on the gridiron. But they score a lot of points and win a lot of games. So it's hard to argue with the results.

Having said that, I honestly think that if Josh was the QB of an offense like the Bengals or Eagles, those teams would score 50 points a game while winning multiple championships.

Sitting down to watch, knowing you will be frustrated and disappointed for

the next few hours and rest of the day.

With only ye olde BBMB to share the sorrow and perfect the philosophy of the negative / realist Bills fan position.

I do not miss those days!

I agree with you.

But then I look at the weapons Brady has: an All-World QB and a fairly average squad beyond that.  Averaging 36 points per game doesn't seem like a bad outcome.

Weird analogy but...  My college had a game room full of pinball machines.  For a while, I thought I was the best player on campus.  I had the high score on a bunch of the most popular machines and could do all sorts of fancy slap-saves, shots, and passes.  But then some hip-looking transfer student started breaking my records.  I was confused because while his slap saves were as good as mine, he didn't have the same shots as I did and would never even pass the ball from one paddle to another.  His skills didn't look impressive, yet he'd put up great scores.

Finally, I asked him his secret.  He explained it to me.  "It's all about rhythm.  You do some cool passes and back-handed shots, but you're all stop-and-go.  For me, it's all continual action, more like music.  That's why I'm better than you."

That's kind of how I think about Brady.  It doesn't always look pretty, but I think there's an unseen wisdom in what he's doing.

Man that's some OL and RB slander. James Cook is a force, many teams would love to have a Ty Johnson on their squad. The OL is GOOD and many pieces on it are paid accordingly.

I think some fans are a little too close to the team and it’s hard to see it unbiased..  a lot of the times the runs up the middle/underneath throws etc have been working but we only focus on the bad ones

was just going through this in another thread but I think the gameplan against bad/mediocre teams is a little more conservative because if we protect the football theres no way we lose those games

some of it was the jets dbs/pass rush actually looking pretty good today too

I think the Bills try a lot of different things early in games thru the first quarter or quarter and a half to see how teams will react and what they will give them on D.

Then once they have a good picture of that, they mash on the gas in mid second quarter and leave most teams in the dust and become almost unstoppable, pretty much scoring from then to the end of the game.

I like games like today when the team can win with Josh doing basically nothing. He can save the Superman stuff when it really counts. This game reminded me of an old patriots type game that was boring as hell, but efficient and relatively easy. I’m very happy with what I am seeing so far as it is a great formula for longevity and long term success in the season.

I admit I was a little harsh on the rest of the offense.  But if you take away Josh and replace him with an average starter, this O isn't elite.

The O Line is good.  But Josh's pocket presence and evasiveness plusses up their pass-pro stats.

And Cook is good.  But the fact that defenses are far more focused on Josh opens things up for Jimbo.

We’re scoring points, so I can’t complain too much—but doesn’t it feel like we have a lot of predictable 2nd-down runs that go nowhere and start slow? Came back strong vs. the Ravens, but it’d be nice to open things up earlier. Against the Jets it didn’t matter, but I’m still waiting to see more schemed explosive plays in the passing game, especially early. Similar issues as last year. What do you guys think?

I think he has done a good job. I think the lack of explosives in the pass game is about receiver separation (or lack thereof) deep. Last night the offensive line really struggled pass protecting early too and so they went run heavy in large part to back the Jets rush off IMO and it worked. Now are there still plays where I think they get too conservative from time to time? Yep. But overall I think he is doing a really good job.

The one thing they HAVE to fix between him and Josh is the alerts. We are alerting into run plays that go nowhere way too often. Sometimes we seem to be alerting and then running against looks that do not look conducive to success. I think it is just a bit about him and Josh going back and looking at what the principles of our process are for when we alert and what we get into.

That is my one gripe so far. On and too much Ray Davis. Who is kinda meh.

They game plan all week on what they see on Jets film.

They put together this gameplan and we score 30.  But easily could have put up 40 if we tried.…

We scored 30 and basically stopped trying for the last 3 drives.

I thought it was exactly the right game plan. They were going to try to rely on their DL and press with man coverage, and that their best chance to win was to get ahead and force the Bills to pass.  The Bills never let them get in that position and ran the ball to neutralize and wear down their pass rushers.  They used PA effectively too.  It’s not flashy but it was dominant.  That’s even with a couple of drops that should have been completed (e.g., Knox in flat on roll out).  Also, I love that they are showing that Josh can roll left and make plays.  Keon is also showing an ability to run the comeback really well which is a great route against man, especially if you are getting the cover man to turn his hips before the cut.

This Bills offense under Brady has shown it can beat you many ways and that is why I think he is doing a great job.

Brady said in the pregame yesterday that ball control and running the clock was a point of emphasis for the game.

so I guess the plan was to make the jets front play the run first and slow them down.

so knowing that was the mindset it makes sense they didn’t come out throwing 20 yard shots.  Even having said that Allen got his arm hit as he was throwing or he would have had a 20 plus yard td to Palmer early in the game.

It is interesting that Brady never has run a trick play. The 49 snow toss td was ad hoc. I’m not complaining but it is a point of difference

Everyone and their grandma knows what the Bills are going to do, but they still can’t stop them. That’s what I love. Physically dominating an opponent and there’s nothing they can do about it. I don’t mind a trick play to ignite a spark for a sputtering offense. I just don’t think Buffalo needs to resort to those tactics yet.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday and they brought up this exact thing, however, what they mentioned is that the play calling may not be flashy, it is actually quite brilliant when you consider that the Bills are playing a "grind it out" style and forcing teams to beat themselves.

The plays are efficient in 1st downs and when the opportunity is there for a big play, JA and Cook make the most of it. In years past, JA was always looking for the long bomb, the huge down the field play, etc. and now it seems they are chunking it 10 yards/1st downs at a time........this is the way to keep D's honest and to keep them on their heels when you have no idea if they are going short or long.

Zone D and JA will shred you with short to mid yardage with players who can YAC........man-to-man and JA will throw a bomb at the mis match.

Love it or hate it, but this O looks more complete than years past.

That comment frustrates me about Joe Brady. I always say the bills scheme offense like they are underdogs, and that comment by him kind of backs it up.

Why are you going into the game trying to play clock control, run the ball, and shorten the game when you're a 7 point favourite.. That's what underdog teams try to do, and you have Josh Friggin Allen at QB on top of it
