If he can be our Chris Jones difference maker like this I’m excited to see the rest of the season. The replay is also making me realize how many of those guys are fairly young. Let’s hope they can work the kinks out, because they gave up 40 in a jiffy! We need Oliver, Milano and Groot to show up in the playoffs we need Bernard, Rapp and Benford to be healthy and available in the Playoffs. 2 1 Quote

Like I said in the thread on the broadcasters, they really dropped the ball in saying which players on defense made plays. But I may have just missed this one in the great moment that it was. It is a ferocious hit, looks like a grown man throwing a (very bad) little kid threw the air and onto the ground. Very timely. Quote
HappyDays Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) As someone that has criticized the defensive coaches for yesterday's performance (and they deserved it) I have to say this is a great play design and call on the one play we absolutely needed to make. I'm not sure if it was fully designed this way but Oliver is almost faking his rush to Lamar's left, which takes the LG's attention so that Taron can run right by him. Then as soon as Taron runs through that gap Oliver is looping back to what looks like a wide open gap up the middle. If Lamar spotted that gap and started running Oliver would have been there to meet him. Meanwhile the entire line to Lamar's right is just playing contain and Rousseau is doing the same on the left edge. So Lamar had no escape route and we actually were baiting him to take one that was about to disappear as soon as he tried to take it with Oliver in front and Taron closing from behind. Ultimately the pressure forced a throw short of the sticks. Remarkable play design. Not sure I've seen anything like it. Edited September 9 by HappyDays 9 Quote

Derrick Henry's big runs were more of not good Gap integrity on the back half.. the linebackers and safeties also need good Gap control Agreed. I listened to Jeremy and Joe yesterday saying "what are the linebackers and DBs supposed to do? The front has to stop him" and thought you guys really have even less clue what you are watching than I thought. Our gap control was atrocious and the majority of it was linebackers and safeties not filling their gaps. Would some of the DTs other than Oliver getting off a block once in a while have helped too? Sure. But it was primarily loss of gap control on Henry's big runs. 6 hours ago, Big Turk said: Oliver was a beast last night. Livinginthepast Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Ed was a difference maker on Sunday. That's the player we thought we would get when we got him. Quote

Everyone that has access to rewatching should check it out. Off the snap- he explodes off the line and jacks his man 2 yards into the backfield within a second- Henry had to reroute himself a bit and that was all it took to bottle him up. I friggin love this guy. Literally everything about him. Now we just need to get this kind of production out of him in every playoff game. 1 Quote

As I said above every time we got the Ravens off the field there was a play in those 3 downs that Ed Oliver made. I know people here hate PFF but they gave him a 92.1 grade for the game. That was the 7th best grade they gave to anyone in the league at any position week 1. 2 1 Quote

You are saying bolded based on what you saw live or did you have a chance to see All22 already? I'd love to hear your opinion who was mostly responsible for all their big gains in the running game. There was a stat close to the game end that they had 8 plays for 20+ yards. I plan to check out All22 tonight myself but my understanding of the game is less than optimal to say the least Or is there anyone out there with good video analysis already? Quote

No that is based on what I saw live at the time. Not had a chance to get to the all 22. But Dorian Williams in particular missed multiple gaps that led to big plays. Taylor Rapp missed one as well. You have to fill your gaps to get Henry moving horizontally. Then you have a chance. If you miss or are late to your gap and he gets going north to south you are in trouble. Our gap discipline was by far the biggest issue. 1 1 Quote

Yea the gap control in the 1st half was awful, and the Ravens would target away from the 3T(Oliver) and that's where Henry's big runs came from. The Tackle would scoop block Oliver with the backside tackle, so he couldn't disrupt the running lane. Which is really want you want to do for Henry. Need him going East/West not North/South. Great 2nd half adjustment by Oliver and recognising formation and tendecies, he started speed rushing the scoop block, which resulted in those 2 big stops by Ed. But yea, if you watch the Gap control, it's pretty bad, saw Milano and Williams, completely miss filling the gap on a couple plays. Edited September 9 by Wayne Cubed 1 1 Quote
The Firebaugh Kid Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Very thankful that wasn’t roughing the passer. Really hoping the NFL eases up on those huge game changing calls unless they’re absolutely egregious. 1 3 Quote
