His RAC is always near the top and they trusted him to run up the gut for a crucial 3rd down conversion. We are getting into semantics and nuance/opinion. I think Shakir is a physical player but he's also smaller and while I think he's got the ability to be a powerful runner I think he's just not going to be a bruiser like Knox. When Knox gets the ball in the open field I get the sense that he's gonna put some bruises on the players trying to tackle him. Whereas Shakir seems like a pain in the ass to tackle but just not the same size to make that kind of killer impact. Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Did anyone else think that the throw to Hawes was the Jake Kumerow Pass? 1 Quote

Though, I do want to point out he had a few really nice blocks last night. One of which he literally drove his guy out of bounds. His blocking has really improved. That was a great block. Reminded me of the time Gronk drove one our DBs into the cheap seats. Quote

It's refreshing to have a guy come in and actually display the bold print skill in his draft profile. As far as his catch, it was pretty lucky. Gotta catch it away from the body and he waited for it to hit his chest. Maybe it was just the angle of the throw or whatever that kept him from getting his hands out but most of the time the bounce isn't going to be that fortunate. I hear you, but consider the velocity that ball was at when it got to him, that pass by Josh was a missile, between two defenders, 1 1 Quote
JakeFrommStateFarm Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Hawes can catch. Its a misconception that all he does is block. He caught passes at Georgia Tech 1 Quote

He’s an asset and could turn out to be the best of the draft- which could be saying something imo, as I think this class will turn out to be a foundational one. Quote

I was the first one here to defend the Dawson Knox pick because I said lack of stats at the tight end position in college is the one position where it doesn't mean Jack Knox never caught a touchdown pass You're looking for traits that's it pure physical athletic and football traits whether it played out on the field or not.. because college isn't known for utilizing tight ends for the most part You're looking for what they do when they do catch the ball.. how do they run after.. can they inline block... Do they get open even if they're not throwing the ball to them... Does he have an NFL frame.. can he get in and out of cuts fluidly..all of this comes before pure statistics Edited September 10 by Buffalo716 2 Quote

But each was always a big clutch play. Here's to Hawes continuing the tradition. Butch Rolle was the king in this regard. 1 Quote
