Good move by them.  It's always wise to pay a Superstar young player at a premium position early.  He's put up three straight 1,000 yard seasons with scrubs at QB.

He’s an unbelievable player and doesn’t get the league wide recognition he deserves because he’s played with bums at QB.

1,100 yards with 4.3 TDs per year equals that salary.

I'm a "everyone eats" supporter.

OR….. we could be the Bengals and sign TWO WRs to giant contracts, then recruit from the season ticket holder fanbase to fill out the rest of the roster.  It might help with the remaining PSLs.

When you have stars, especially at premium positions, you have to pay them. The quality of the rest of the team can’t stand in your way of that. You pay Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, Garrett Wilson, Justin Jefferson, Chase and Higgins, etc… There aren’t enough great players in football to not do that.

Wilson is one of the top 5 or so most talented WRs in the NFL. The Titans decided to move on from AJ Brown and Henry in a similar spot. The Giants didn’t value Saquon. You need star players to win. The Eagles have them. The Chiefs have them. The Ravens have them. The Lions have them. The Bills have 1 (plus the OL).

You just can’t pay a WR like that when you don’t have a franchise QB.

Jets just lit a whole ton of money on fire

What did the Vikings do when they signed Jefferson?

When you don’t have a franchise QB or have a QB on a rookie deal is the PERFECT time to pay a number 1 WR.

They need to pay their best players. Wilson is elite. And they're not spending much on the QB position these days.

No… no it’s not.  If you don’t have a franchise QB, the strategy is to pay NOBODY, and devote your resources toward finding that QB.

If that means going 0-17 to do it, you do it!  Just don’t throw your cap space away on resources that aren’t going to move the needle if you don’t have the QB first

Paying a WR before you find a QB is kind of risky, in my opinion.

If you take that idea to its logical extreme, you might as well say that no investments are worth making until you have your franchise QB. That of course would be a ridiculous philosophy for a team to take. When you find your franchise QB you want the team around him to already be in good shape.

There's nothing to criticize the Jets for with this extension. They signed a great player to a market value deal.

Well if your whole strategy is to pay nobody

If you ever find that franchise quarterback your team is going to be so lacking talent that even a tremendous prospect would be destroyed behind a weak line with no weapons

that certainly is a strategy to destroy a potential franchise quarterback in two seasons lol

Even Peyton Manning isn't getting through that lol

The 49ers haven't had a franchise quarterback in years and they've been to the super bowl recently..  Purdy is a glorified game manager but wins because of the talent around him
