Win totals would likely dip going from a top level QB to "average". So are all teams asking too much of their top level QB, or is it just the reality the QB play is the biggest aspect of wins and losses and going from amazing to average at the position is a huge drop? 2 1 Quote

Let's say Mahomes missed the entire year and Minshew played all 17 for them. What do you think their win total is? 8-9 games is my guess. So I would say it's about even. 1 1 Quote

DCofNC Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Take away JA17 and this is a 5-6 win team if you are being objective. The OL is the only unit on the team that is above average and it’s certain that JA pads their stats a little by being nearly impossible to sack. The WRs are a pathetically weak group, TEs are average (with potential for better), RBs are good, but again, make them the focal point by taking away JA, they aren’t carrying anything. The defense is mediocre against good teams and if teams felt comfortable running and imposing their will, not fearing JA putting 30+ on them, they get mauled. I have hopes for the DL being better and helping the LBs be able to move around and be effective again. Thats all speculation at this point and the secondary is a huge question mark, we know of exactly two guys who would be starters on other teams. Maybe the draft has made that better, maybe not. JA makes this team, it’s not a question and it’s not debatable in my eyes. He IS the most VALUABLE player to any team in the league. I feel he is worth 2-3 more wins than Mahomes is to KC and I’d say 4-5 more than Jackson for Baltimore. Baltimore was still reasonable before Henry, with guys that can’t even win back up jobs now. 2 3 Quote
Gregg Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Didn't Brady get hurt in week 1 one year and was lost for the season and Belichick still managed to get 10 or 11 wins out of the Pats. I think Cassell was his QB that year. I believe they also missed the playoffs as well. As for the Bills playing without 17, I don't even want to think about it. Quote

Point being I think too much is still put on his shoulders to carry the team. I think they are a fringe playoff team WITHOUT #17. Why? Because of their strength in the trenches (especially O-line.) I think Brady is a top level coordinator. Take the ball out of Trubisky’s hands as much as possible and use his legs more. Ride Cook & Company all the way to the postseason. Mix the running w/ some screens, bootlegs, and occasional deep shot to keep opposing D’s honest. Another underrated aspect is the blocking ability of the WRs when they hit the 2nd level. Bills regular season defense has always been very good to great under McDermott so I’d expect a top 5-7 unit. You can also expect them to be in the upper tier of turnover differential as well. Buffalo defense knows how to take the ball away and score afterwards . It is not luck, it is coaching. As a fan, I pretty much expect 1-2 takeaways per game. All in all, I think 9-8 is a very realistic record. This team has more talent than fans give credit for. It takes more than just a good QB. Look at the Bengals & Chargers over the recent years. There’s a reason McDermott is tied for the 4th longest current coaching tenure and he would be snatched up faster than a rabbit gets ****** if he ever hit the market. You think Antoine Winfield or Pat Williams hurt? Imagine McDermott going the Patriots. 15 minutes ago, DaBillsFanSince1973 said: who cares. Then why post a reply? I get it, bud. BillsFooteball Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Take away the MVP and a full year of Trubisky/White. I think with current roster without Allen if you are being optimistic at best would be 8-9 at the end of the season. I would plan on 6-11, 7-10. Edited 4 hours ago by BillsFooteball 1 Quote

There is one person responsible for keeping everyone employed at OBD If we immediately shifted to an offense built around Cook the way the late drought teams were built around Shady and ask Trubisky to be Tyrod Taylor and not throw the games away— I mean there’s probably a timeline where we get to over .500 But as division winner we play the other strongest teams, who would in all likelihood each of them roll us. It’s more likely than not we’d see a season reminiscent of the 2 win Colts when Peyton Manning went down — and that team had impact players on both sides of the ball (although I do think for whatever his faults, McDermott is a much better coach than Jim Caldwell). The only things you could say for certain is we’d be in no way a Super Bowl contender and we’d have a chance for McBeane to prove they’re not being hard carried by a once in a generation QB. Quote

Jmo. People rip on Trubisky a lot but he has a winning record as a starter. 74Td/48 INts in his career and has started multiple playoff games. You could do a lot worse than Trubisky in this offense. I'm confident he could play point guard like Josh does for much of the game He won't put up crazy highlights, but Trubisky is better than people give him credit for 1 Quote
BarleyNY Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Without Allen and no one else brought in to play QB, I say around 5 wins. With Trubisky behind center we’d have the worse starting QB in almost every game. There’s a reason he didn’t get a sniff as even a bridge QB somewhere and he’s here making $2.6M/year. That’s what NFL GMs think of him. Edited 4 hours ago by BarleyNY Quote
