However, it still remains to be seen how affordable all of this will be.  It will become very difficult for most families to enjoy a game in-person. The game is made for TV though so maybe in the end this will not matter so much.

Soon, the NFL will have few stadiums, like destination amusement parks, casinos and resorts, where all teams play.  You and I will watch on 105 inch high def televisions in our home.   It makes little sense to have 32 $2 billion stadiums for 8 games a year.  it’s coming.

This stadium won’t be relevant for thirty years.  Nothing is, anymore.

Anybody know if major college programs sell PSL's?

It used to be deductible but tax code update removed it making PSLs not donations so some did.  Whether any colleges preserved it post tax change I do not know.

https://www.thesportscol.com/2018/02/new-tax-code-eliminates-collegiate-seat-license-fees-as-charitable-contribution/

I think it was replaced by bags of cash by alumni to athletes.

You realize this is for club seats not regular seats. Raiders and Vikings who are two recent stadiums with PSLs had the majority 5k or less.

Agreed. Buffalo basically went twenty years + now where we haven't been subjected to what the NFL is if you want a team. People would being crying hysterics if they left and forever people said they would do whatever it takes. I have some sympathy that if you had tickets for a long time you may have consider not doing that or a new seat but realistically its the price of having the biggest sport in town. The majority of PSLs for the non club/exclusive seating or top seats well be more realistic to fan costs. The Bills were better off delivering this in a better format which would've quelled angst, but regardless come opening day and for years after the place will be filled and you will have people clamoring to get in.

They can go as far as I’m concerned. I refuse to be held hostage with pay the fees or get the hell out approach.
I can find better things to do on a Sunday.

Put what to a vote?  PSL's?  that makes no sense.  Do people vote if the Olive Garden offers chicken parm?  Its on the market, buy it or don't buy it, it is all of our choice.

Sorry, wasn't thinking PSL's strictly. More our tax payers paying for stadiums. Don't think that would pass. Then fans have to pay this PSL fee. Now that's a fans choice I agree. And I said if they do fine but don't complain about your taxes. Bottom line I think all stadiums being built using our state taxes would not pass a popular vote.

The Bills thank you for your service.  Godspeed.

I hate PSLs but it's a private company offering a product.

Agree there. Just don't ask tax payers to build something for you. Charge all you want for your product but seems tax payers in effect own part of Mr. Pegulas product namely the stadium.

Negotiating lower prices or PSL caps wasn't part of the deal, apparently.

This is your chance to get back in @eball.    Going to be a lot of people who won't pay those PSL's.   And the Bills might let you get your 27 years of seniority back too.....1989-2016 right?  If you send a written apology to Mr. McDermott for quitting your tickets on account of his hiring I will put in a good word for you.

I think Pegulas are depending on ticket and travel agencies to buy the PSLs who sell to out of area fans to create demand for ones they do not buy.

Many of those agencies have deep pockets due to investments from private equity funds.

This will turn Buffalo into one of those stadiums where visitor fan percentage is high which is not good for crowd noise.

The good news is "NFL private equity plan won’t get vote this week" which will slow investment into these short term investors into NFL.

The committee again met yesterday at a hotel in Orlando. The committee is comprised of

  • Falcons owner Arthur Blank,  (   )
  • Broncos owner Greg Penner, ( 💰 )
  • Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, ( 🤮 )
  • the Patriots’ Robert Kraft ( 👎 )
  • and Chiefs owner Clark Hunt as an ex officio chair. ( 🦀 )

No one like Ralph Wilson who will stand up and say this is stupid and makes no sense.

https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2024/03/25/nfl-private-equity-no-vote-this-week

I am waiting to see one of the big, older owners in NFL (i.e. Jerry Jones, Kraft) to see what that impact does to NFL.

I think you just summed this up very well. The highest PSL’s are not geared towards “legitimate” fans. I don’t want to veer off topic, but this type of investment geared sale is very commonplace outside the sports world these days as well.

What happens if you buy the PSL but don't buy season tickets?

I never understood why you need to pay for the right to pay for something else. It's the dumbest scam in the sports world, and it's shame that so many fans proved to owners this works. Hopefully it fails miserably in Buffalo, and PSL prices will be significantly reduced.

But if that happens, all the people who paid the $15k - $50k for their PSLs will be losing out huge in their investment. Wish the state money used to fund the stadium came with the stipulation that ownership could not charge for PSLs, otherwise they would have to reimburse the taxpayer funding.

They were discussing the PSL issue on WGR this morning and (for what it's worth) said that the absolute highest price (club or otherwise) for the Vikings was 9k. That was back in 2018 with a building that is probably going to be considered far superior to our new digs.

I know building costs are insane now but that was a mere 6 years ago when the Vikings palace checked in at 1.1 billion. Still a bit shocking that ANY seats could be in the 20-50k range for a stadium in Buffalo that is not exactly going to be the Taj Mahal.

We all knew this was coming, but ouch. Not sure how these prices are going to fly in the Buffalo market. It also really highlights the stupidity of not spending more and getting yourself a domed stadium. You're asking people to spend $20,00 to $50,000 for the right to sit and freeze in terrible weather for potentially three out of eight games on the schedule.

totally agree on the dome aspect.  plus the ability to have other events the seats could be tied to

With all the focus on the PSLs the real sticker shock is going to be the per seat price.  It’s been rumored nearly double for similar seats.  Not sure that is something the Buffalo market will be able to support.

Affordable will be cheap tickets most can afford. The teams version of affordable vs ours is drastically different unfortunately. But the team is also good now so it’s at a premium. When the up and down days someday return more will be back at a lower price.
