sleeby
They are expected to make this official tomorrow. Dang. They are continuing to work on a deal Chris Jones.
Nephilim17
Franchise tag can't be cheap. Projected at $20 million. That should limit their spending rather than extending his deal ala the Bills and making some FA splashes...
CaptnCoke11
Doesn’t mean they are definitely retaining him. He’s been given permission to seek a trade. Title is misleading
Bigvinny
Non exclusive tag: He can still sign with another team, Chiefs can choose to match it or not. No way Chiefs can pay Mahomes and keep all of these guys. Edited March 4 by Bigvinny

And if they use the tag on Sneed that puts all the leverage in Chris Jones's hands. He can look at the Chiefs contract offer, then head to the open market to see what some one else will pay and either move on or hit the Chiefs up for more money. Not a terrible development IMO. 1
90sBills
This could mean they have agreed to a trade with another team.
beebe
This was expected. It's also expected that they will trade him for something in the neighborhood of a mid-2nd round pick.
Warriorspikes51
I'll predict he's traded to the Lions. Miami was also mentioned to be a team to keep an eye on by ESPN
sleeby
If they do have a trade partner and are doing this for that reason then the real news will be when we learn what new toy they acquire from it. Bills should offer bass, Hines and t white. 🤔

Which they will package with their 1st to move up and take a WR Bills want. 🤬

jkeerie
The teams that really need CB help are in positions to draft them in the first round of this year's draft, as a lot of teams will be going after QB, WR, OL and some DL. Why get a guy at top dollar...and lose a number 2 draft pick in the process when you can sign a solid CB and have him for 5 years before you have to pay him? Hopefully the Hunt family is adopting "cash to the cap" now that they have some fresh Lombardi's in the case.
WhitewalkerInPhilly
And like that the Chiefs are at $3M in cap space before trying Chris Jones

There's no saying that the guy they pick will be better than the guy we pick. If they trade Sneed and hop us? Then they get WR4 or WR5 and we'll get WR5 or WR6. But they also won't have L'Jarius Sneed. Edited March 5 by BillsFanForever19
bigK14094
Pats tag Duggar also. I recall McD loved him out of college.

They’re using the transition tag which allows them only to match an offer him and his agent like. They don’t acquire anything if they choose not to. Very rarely used option for that reason alone. The non exclusive franchise tag is a "poison pill" for the trade partner though: "If the organization chooses not to offer an equal (or greater) contract and the player transfers to the other team, they [meaning the original team] are entitled to two first-round draft picks from the franchise acquiring the player." So it's basically forcing a team that's interested in signing him to trade him for 2 1st round picks. Like "Dang, you good, you ain't THAT good!" He's not likely to get an offer sheet from other teams for that.

So, the acquiring team would have to negotiate a contract bigger than the tag value and work out a trade with KC. That's a tall order. Report is a 2nd at best for KC.
