Who is the Tallest & Fastest WR in the World, Historically and Present?

Milanos Milano

Recommended Posts

Harold Carmichael was 6’8” but he ran a 4.6   , however he had great hands and could separate.

Plaxico Burress was 6’5” and ran a 4.59.

Calvin Johnson was 6’5” and ran a  4.35  .

Randy Moss was  6’4” and ran a 4.3ish

DK Metcalf  was  6’4” and ran a 4.33

I can’t think of any other tall AND fast WRs .  Can you help me list all 6’4” or taller WRs that also ran at least a 4.4 or faster.

As of now, this metric appears perfect in determining success. If you are 6’4”+ and run fast, just draft them with confidence.

After you help me list all the NFL players, can you help find me some of the tallest and fastest people that don’t play football.

Usain Bolt is  6’5” and can run a 4.22  (Super Bowl, retired and in street clothes) .   Imagine if he could have trained to be a football player.

I wonder if it’s possible to be much taller than 6’5” and being able to run a 4.4 or faster.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INPUT!

Calvin Johnson was a cheat code. The best WR I’ve ever seen play and it’s not even close. I don’t care what the arguments are for Rice. Johnson would have destroyed every Rice record if he played 17 years. Which would have been 4 years less than Rice. Dude was a monster.

End thread.

I mean it’s between him and Megatron. But that isn’t helping me with my question. Can you list any others for my criteria?

I’m trying to put together some statistical breakdowns though. I want to see just how much of a success rate it is for height+speed. Doesn’t necessarily need to be football players. Usain is the tallest sprinter that I know of.

Fastest 6’4”+ basketball player?

Mike Evans is 6’5” but he only ran a 4.53

Justin Shorter is 6’4” but runs a 4.55

I’d be curious to see where the statistical success rate for height starts to really tip the scales.

I’d definitely consider Evans a success , but is obviously taller and faster than Shorter.

Maybe I will try and list all 6’4” + wr and their respective 40 time.

Collin Johnson (Giants) is 6’6” but runs a 4.65  , so it’s pretty obvious that anything slower than 4.53 is a danger zone potentially.

The reason you can name those players is because they were successful. You wouldn't be able to name the bad receivers who were big and fast.

That’s what I’m asking for you all do to. Help me list all WRs that meet the requirement. Good or Bad

Yeah that cannot add to. I’ll say this, as a former track athlete and huge fan of Usain Bolt. That man was a freak. It’s not usual to have a man with that height to be that fast/quick. But he was. He just gobbled up the track with his long legs. He was not always the fastest starter out of the blocks but his legs just ate up the track. Usually it’s shorter sprinters that have the quicker movement in their legs. Bolt was something special. Had everything. But that’s why his 200m WR is more impressive than his 100m WR. The 100m records have historically gotten faster and faster over time. But with the exception of Michael Johnson (another long legged freak) the 200m WR has stood since the 1970s.

So far that is one good example of a meh player with criteria I asked for. Can you help list some more.

Christian Watson.  Ran a 4.36 at 6'4".  Was fine with the Elam pick at the time but he was my draft crush.

He doesn’t meet your criteria of being 6’5” but Brashad Perriman ran something like a 4.25. He’s 6’2” I think. He is like the perfect size and speed package. Seemed to always be nursing something. Or not giving his all. Similar to Sammy boo-boo foot Watkins as far as desire to play the game.

6’4” or taller.  But yeah he is talented, and I don’t mind discussing it, just trying to compile a list of all samples.

Can you isolate WR players height query?

Combine stuff is neatly on stathead now. PFR keeps moving stuff to their paid data. But it’s fairly cheap.

https://stathead.com/football/player-season-finder.cgi?request=1&positions[]=wr&height_min=75

If you want to get real freaky you can just Vlookup and narrow it down with a second query by games, yards, TD’s etc.

Randy ran in the 4.2s! He had just as much straight line speed as Tyreek, just wasn’t as shifty. Of course you trade that shiftiness in for size and catch radius, which made him arguably the most feared WR the game has ever seen.

And he wasn't a good NFL receiver

RIP James

He was for one play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that's how I'll choose to remember him.

Megatron was an absolute stud. But there is a reason I said Moss was the most talented WR ever and not the best WR ever.

Other guys have gotten close to Moss or surpassed him based on consistent working as close as possible to their ceiling. But I don't think there was a better WR in the history of the sport than try hard Randy Moss.

Chris collinsworth was 6'5 with a 40 in the 4.50s

Make of him what you will ... Lmao

But he could play for a stint

He had 4 seasons with 1k yards, will mark him down as elite for now.
Do you have a link to approximate 40 time? I can’t find anything about his speed other than he was a 100m champion.
