Of course the media has over reacted to the story but it's the inevitable result of Diggs' offseason of cryptic social media activity and McDermott's "very concerned" response to a question.  They can say they want to keep it in house but what little bit of detail they have shared with the public is just fuel for the media speculation fire.  Josh is 100% right about the media but it's not like he can call out his HC and teammate and blame them for being the cause of it.  That would be even a bigger media story.  My sense is that some media types are more thin skinned than they ought to be.

All much ado about nothing. The media should report on things when a coach is "very concerned." The leader of our offense should not look frazzled about any media reports and just do his job on the field.

This is the thing. The players and the team created this.

 

The very fact that we're on here talking about it, and that there have been a bunch of threads about it, points out what's what. Fans are interested, because there's something there. Fans are talking, and fan interest guarantees media interest. As it should.

But is there a possibility this explodes into a big problem at some point? Yeah. Diggs may not have been angry with Allen, and there may not be any long-lasting issues resulting. But Diggs is a very emotional guy, and serious troubles are one of the possible outcomes here. The widespread awareness of that is why people are talking about it.

This seems to be the popular sentiment but I'm not going to assume, had McDermmot said something else, that the media was going to be like- "oh, ok, nothing to this Diggs story then.  No need to ask any players about it."

 

It certainly wasn't a smart statement, and the press clearly ran with it, but this situation (going back to how last year ended) with your superstar captain is going to be a story regardless.

Why we’re still talking about it:  

-the media is still talking about it on a daily basis.

-people post what the media is saying on a daily basis on message boards.  

-it’s July 8th.  What else should we talk about.  There’s nothing that hasn’t been a exhausted at this point in the offseason.

are you “interested” in this topic?  I’m not, but I’m posting in it…..because it’s July 8th and there’s nothing else to talk about.  Just like the media has nothing else to talk about —-so they talk about something that the most active fan base on social media will respond to.

I agree that McD went overboard with his comment and his emotion and should have handled it differently…..but i do think he was in the right by showing concern.  He just took it too far.

The media did a similar thing with the Golden State Warriors and Draymond punching Jordan Poole.  They just kept bringing it up and wouldn’t let it go away.

 

In that case, though, after the season, Coach Kerr and Draymond himself admitted that the incident ruined their season.

It's to the point I am getting offended by people who are constantly offended by things.

 

Find something to do in life. Get a hobby. Find some joy in busying yourself with something meaningful so you don't have time to waste being offended and getting up in arms over things all the time.
