in the big picture its just moronic to move to Electric end devices when the Electric infrastructure and sources have not been increased to meet said demand.

France has cheap electricity. Cause they have Nuke plants all over and embrace it.

Asia is building nuke and other energy plants as fast as possible.

That's been this Admin's strategy from the beginning.

Completely correct. I still haven’t seen much if any discussion about increasing our electricity SUPPLY. There’s a whole lot of yapping about increasing the DEMAND. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

When I lived in CA. they were covering parking lots with solar panels. There it made sense. Besides it being sunny from  March- October, the canopy holding the panels shaded the parking spots. That stop\ed your dash from cracking and your car wasn't an oven.

Huh.

Washington Post says there’s pressure growing to ban gas stoves, which we were told was a hoax

Here’s how it went down: The news broke earlier this month that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission was considering a ban on gas stoves, which (allegedly) cause childhood asthma. They immediately tried to walk that back, saying a ban was never on the table and the idea was only “floated” by Commissioner Richard Trumka Jr. in an interview with Bloomberg.

Suddenly it became a culture war thing. The Washington Post reported that it was Republicans who had “thrust gas stoves … into the culture wars.” “Morning Joe” mocked Republicans for their “meltdown over gas stoves.” California State Senator Scott Wiener got the last laugh, pulling up a chart showing that gas stoves are a blue state thing; the hicks in the flyover states already use electric stoves.

But again, even though it was Trumka who brought it up, WaPo says it was Republicans who made it a front in the culture wars.

Now the Washington Post is saying pressure is growing to ban natural gas and has experts explain how to swap out your gas-burning stove.......LOL

That’s still a very common application. Public school campuses are one of the main targets. The company provides the structure and the panels and takes a cut of the energy savings. It’s call a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Unfortunately these type of financial deals are all based on the projection of the rate of increase in costs for electricity. They often go sour when the initial guess was overly aggressive.

I converted my old, dirty wood burning fireplace to natural gas about 8 or 9 years ago.  The suggestion here is that if I’m concerned about impact to the environment, I drop $5-7000 to get an electric model with a cool led light and fake crackling w/ no heat, or $15-20,000 to return to a less dirty but dirty wood burner.

I’m not feeling it, and am currently exploring the ways to beat the system in the event Gas Fireplace Prohibition becomes a thing.  So far, the prevailing wisdom is to offer protection money to the politicians/authorities implementing the rules for the greater good.

I’ll stay with this story…stay tuned.

So its not "cost effective"?  That's the bottom line.  When you run the numbers on the renewable "economy" or even an all electric economy, it will  just cost too much along with being less efficient and less reliable..  And if you want to adopt an energy source with those characteristics the implication is you as an individual and society as a whole will become less productive and as a result your standard of living and quality of life will suffer.

Look at EV's.  If they were cost effective you wouldn't need $7,500 tax credits to entice rich people to buy them.

I've had gas, geo thermal and heat pump.

I can't see a heat pump only product working north of central Virginia.

What can be done is having a heat pump that is dual fuel, and switches to nat gas/propane below about 45 degrees.

“Suffer” is a strong word here, especially in light of some of the trauma people go through in life.

I try to be a realist, and while I’m not always successful at separating fact from fiction, I do try.

I think the argument is silly, and while I recognize the fact that the use of natural gas is not 100% “safe” by all measures, nothing ever is.   In my case, installing the fireplace has reduced our overall  consumption dramatically.  I like that.

I think some people and organizations use fear as a tool to bludgeon people into submission.  I think technology can be a good thing and if the next generation has the option of completely environmentally friendly heating/cooling and we see a major reduction in climate hypocrisy by those leading the charge for me to sit by a plant light pretending it’s a roaring fire, that’s ok by me.

In the meantime, it’s cold outside and I’ll click the remote and be grateful for the smart folks who came up with safe click-to-flame technology.

If you operate under a baseline assumption that 90% of these causes have no material impact other than to impose some rule or restriction that creates a nuisance and inconvenience for the general public you'll be right more often than not.

Kind of like the initial guesses about the savings that would be generated from the ACA (affordable care act, aka Obamacare) and thereby reducing the overall cost of health care for everyone.

The Truth About Biden's Would-Be Gas Stove Ban Comes Out

Since the initial dust-up in early January, the Biden administration and its media allies have run a relentless campaign to pretend as if concerns over a federal gas stove ban were made up by Republicans.  (See title thread and OP 😆)

e216af96-bd98-4114-a812-ab182008d1f8-860

Unfortunately for them, the internet is forever, and commentary by administration officials, including CPSC head Alexander Hoehn-Saric, made it clear the idea was on the table. Democrat politicians also defended the possible move, claiming that gas stoves cause childhood asthma.

For several days, you were treated as an idiot who wanted to harm kids if you didn’t think gas stoves should be banned. Even the late-night TV shows were talking about, and then suddenly, everything changed. The press started to put out stories asserting that Biden was never going to ban gas stoves and that it was simply a moral panic created by the right. That wasn’t true, but it served as a useful way to abscond from the fact that the administration had backtracked due to the backlash.

Now, we are learning the truth about just how deep this push went and what the real motivation was. According to Fox News, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm secretly met with Jules Kortenhorst in mid-2021, the CEO of the company behind the study claiming gas stoves are a health hazard.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm met privately with the leader of the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), the group that funded a recent study used to justify calls for a gas stove ban.

Granholm met with Jules Kortenhorst — the CEO of RMI at the time — in June 2021, according to her internal agency calendar obtained by government watchdog group Americans for Public Trust (APT). Kortenhorst is widely known global climate activist who also founded the Energy Transitions Commission and chairs the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Net Zero Transition…

…”Despite calling stories about the Biden administration banning gas stoves ‘ridiculous’ and ‘not true,’ Secretary Granholm’s calendar tells a different story,” APT executive director Caitlin Sutherland told Fox News Digital. “We’ve now learned that she consulted with the dark money group pushing to ban gas stoves.”

“Suffice it to say, ‘ridiculous’ and ‘not true’ proposals don’t ordinarily involve a meeting with the Secretary of Energy — and where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” Sutherland added. “Americans everywhere must demand Granholm and green energy extremists stay out of their kitchens.”

If an administration wasn’t seriously entertaining banning gas stoves, its top energy official wouldn’t have been having an hour-long meeting with the CEO of a dark money group pushing to ban them. Obviously, the idea to do so reached the highest levels, and it appears Granholm was looking for a scientific hook to justify taking action. Further, if you look at her rhetoric after the meeting, it’s obvious she agreed with Kortenhorst, and she’s still repeating his talking points to this day even while continuing to dismiss the assertion that the administration ever wanted to ban gas stoves.

What I find most interesting from this revelation, though, is what it says about the real motivation of those involved. Granholm is a climate change cultist, believing that the United States needs to completely end any use of fossil fuels. RMI’s CEO, Kortenhorst, is also a radical activist who uses his position and company to push for the total end of fossil fuels.

Hey !  The OP's take on this was wrong.  What a surprise.

Yes, it’s real: Joe Biden’s Department of Energy just moved to ban nearly all gas stoves.

For the record, gas stoves don’t hurt asthmatics anymore than any cooking does. The studies commissioned to prove this had to wrap the house in Saran wrap to show any rise in anything detrimental.

And while on that, as an asthmatic, this is rich coming from the people who told us our disability wasn’t a thing and we had to wear the mask, or be locked in our houses.

These are my middle fingers.

I totally agree with Blackburn besides it just continues to show that those claiming that they will agree with this stupidity do little to no research ! Natural gas is one of the most efficient it is some 98% efficient & propane even more if it was bad they wouldn't be allowed to use it on toe motors inside of buildings where people work .

The problem with our gov't is that they are highly educated people that turned in their common sense when they got their degree & they are now the same parents that teach their children that the highest form of discipline is to take one of their entitlements away such as a favorite toy while allowing them the rest of their toy box to play with .

It's just amazing to me after 61 years how i can't make common sense decisions for myself and need a wing nut to decide what is best for me & mine !!

Not to mention fire has been used since pretty much the beginning of time but all of the sudden it's the boogie man . Go figure .

Homes built prior to 1950 had only 30 Amp service at 120V.  Most stoves are wired to a dedicated 240V 50 Amp breaker.  There is no way any of these older homes can accommodate an electric stove.

Even homes built up to the late 60's with 60 Amp service will struggle running an electric stove in conjunction with A/C, refrigerator, TV, dryer, computer, etc.

Very true.

Not only that but the power grid in many places is strained already,  So let's add millions more consumers without adding to the infrastructure.

It's really surprising how many dwellings have 30 Amp service especially among cottages and camps.  For sure there are large areas in WNY where the grid could not support a rapid changeover.

EV's in minor accidents are being totaled by insurance companies.  The insurers can't take the chance that a damaged battery will fail catastrophically and cause injury.  Insurance premiums for EV's are set to rise because of this.

Scratched EV battery? Your insurer may have to junk the whole car
