Not sure if this was posted earlier or in another thread but per Zac Taylor: "When I got over there, the first thing he said was, 'I need to be at the hospital for Damar, and I shouldn't be coaching this game,'" Taylor recalled to reporters on Wednesday. Wow! I am blown away by how much clarity he has on the big picture and his love for his players. But there are more deserving coaches already mentioned in this thread based on on-field product/success/improvement. He's down to his 3rd QB, Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy, a rookie 7th round pick and all the 49ers do is win. McDermott is OUR coach of the year but in the NFL it's Shanahan. Coaches like Brian Daboll and Doug Pederson are more deserving for the body of work they've done this NFL season. Kyle Shanahan is also going to get votes for the miracle performances at the QB spot. Losing Lance, and then getting Jimmy G in there with success despite the troubled relationship with the team, and then when that failed, coaching up a 7th round draft pick and that player also being successful. I don't think McDermott would win COY even if the Bills advance to the SB, dominate it and win it. He coaches a loaded squad. Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted January 5, 2023 Share Posted January 5, 2023 I believe I've read the NFL as some point each year gives out awards for Trainer of the year, hot dog vendor of the year, etc. I'll be very surprised if Denny Kellington doesn't win that award for athletic trainer based on what is being stated in his role Monday night. I do wonder too how much help the Bengals athletic staff provided Monday night on the field. With normal injuries the opposing team staff stays away, if it's NE Belichick will come after them and chase them away. He is the ultimate leader of men and there is no one more deserving of NFL Coach of the Year than him. Not that I have a vote, but if I did, it would be a no-brainer choice. No matter how the season ends up. If Nick Siriani wins Coach of the Year over Sean McDermott, the whole thing is a joke. That is all. skibum Posted January 6, 2023 Share Posted January 6, 2023 And it's not like McDermott only overcame incredible adversity - his team also kicked a bunch of arse all season long, which to me says he's doubly qualified for COY.
