Sorry, I didn't go far enough back in the exchange. I thought you were talking about the Bengals.

I think the Bills play the Pats. But I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't.

I say we will play the Patriots this Sunday as planned.  Almost for sure.

That is what propose

we get a week off in week 18

rest everyone - mac Jones still sucks so we may still beat them

be ready for the home game week 1 of playoffs by then Hamlin May be trending up and so will our guys psyche

If your the 3 seed you wouldn’t face the Pats I think that’s either the Ravens or Chargers.. I’m not sure which the 2 seed would be the one facing the Pats.. I think that be KC.

I doubt very strongly that there will be any type of "roster lock" like you describe.  This flies in the face of everything the league has done insofar as making sure teams get as many healthy bodies on the gameday squad as possible, up to the 53 limit.

I mean, I could be wrong, certainly.  But, I'm guessing that if they're going to continue from the point the game stopped, they'd have to use the same rosters.  Now, if, for whatever reason, they decided to start the game over (which I don't see them doing) the teams would submit new gameday rosters.

We're obviously in uncharted territory here, as I don't think a game has ever been suspended and continued at a later date, but this is also the same league that forced Denver to start a WR at quarterback not too long ago, so who knows what they'd do?

All that said, I don't think the game is being resumed, regardless.  At this point, to do it, you're upending the entire playoff schedule.  My guess is the league wants the solution that keeps the original schedule intact as much as possible.

The NFL has already stated that week18 goes on as normal. I believe they will delay the wild card weekend one week and that Sunday is just the Bills - Bengals, with a special salute to #3. This makes the most and ONLY sense.

And this would eliminate the off week before the Super Bowl?

The NFL is praying the Chefs lose this week, then they can reveal it will be a no-contest before Cinci and Buffalo play their games, Cinci can come away with the 2 and the Bills can still take the 1 or if Bills lose they fall and nobody is shocked.

The nfl is probably hoping to push the playoffs back a week, play a 1 off Bills vs Bengals week 19 big ratings stand alone game for the 1. Another week for them to gain revenue and all you are doing is pushing the start of the playoffs back a week.

As has been stated by others, you're essentially giving every playoff team besides the Bills and Bengals a bye week.  That's a pretty sizeabale disadvantage for the Bills and Bengals.

Also, if KC were to get the #1 seed, they'd get two weeks off.  I'm guessing the Bills and Bengals would rather not play than try to shoehorn in a game while every other playoff team is resting at home.

This would be pretty much the only thing they could do if they intend to play the game.  They can't put players on super short weeks.  I think there is two weeks between the champ game and the SB no?

This makes way too much sense! Nobody has made travel plans for the playoffs because you don’t know who’s hosting yet, where or when. And the Bills Bengals game would have pretty much the same importance that it did last week with both teams still vying for playoff seeds.

And a bonus byproduct would be the elimination of the ridiculous Pro Bowl during the bye week.

Bills & Bengals should absolutely turn down any idea that we need to play Week 19 and the other 12 playoff teams all get a bye.

One, or both or us, then have to play a team coming off a bye week … in the WC round of the playoffs.

Nah.. that’s absurd.

I think the Bills and Bengals will do what they feel is right for their team and players on it.

Yup

What outcome would that be?

If Bills/Bengals win.

Chiefs lose and CIN loses out on the shot at a 1 seed.

Chiefs win and the Bills lose out on a shot at the 1 seed and the Bengals are relegated to the 3, without their shot at the 2.

I think both teams would likely have zero desire to play that game, under those circumstances, but agreed.

You just typed my thoughts exactly. From a guy thats been in a few wars, you either find the strength to continue on or not. Of course, this is a game, but a violent one that comes with many risks. I am, by no means, trying to suggest our boys don’t need some respite and rest, but they will have to figure this out collectively. Right now, I want this young kid to survive and have a healthy normal life outside of football.

For someone who has been to war you get this, while someone like myself has not been to war and i get this:

These players tell themselves they are going to war, they're going to hurt people, ready to die for this, etc. It's ridiculous to believe such nonsense but they do.

They believe this in their head until this sets in and reality wakes them up that it is a game. The effects of this will be interesting because these are world class athletes and I say we see a 2 weeks hangover across the league.

I don’t think Bills Cinci will be played…too many logistics and gymnastics.

If Chiefs lose and Bills and Cinci win then Bills 1 Cinci 2 and Chiefs 3 and this creates the cleanest and simplest outcome …not entirely perfect…but nothing will be…but this would be the best outcome  for the NFL office….and likely what they are hoping for.

Yes, but the Bills and Bengals essentially got an extra bye by not having to play a full week 17 game...

The only chance is if Bengals-Bills is played on Thursday 12th January. Both teams will then get a mini bye heading into the following wildcard weekend. It’s not perfect in the slightest but nothing is in this situation.

Of course, if the Bills beat the Pats whilst the Chiefs and Bengals both lose in week 18 (unlikely IMO) then the game becomes pointless for the Bills, though will still have something riding on it for the Bengals.

Well said! This entire situation may have some lasting effects on players, fans et al. First things first; #3’s health. Word is, he is at 50 percent 02 now - breathing on his own 50 percent of the time. Oddly enough, I am an RN now with acute cardiac experience. He has youth and a healthy body on his side. It will be interesting to see how this team responds. As you state, a hangover can occur.
