Extend Po Now - Protect the Culture

Having cleared cap space with the Schnowman, it is time to extend Po.  From what I can tell he has universal respect in the locker room and he is a warrior.  Extending Po would give the team a boost and help purge the Ariaza situation.  I believe it would be a boost for the locker room and the fan base.  Not saying be crazy, but I am sure he wants to get something done and finish what he has started here.  Could be a real win-win.

I would disagree. Most of the other players probably don’t care if he gets paid. It’s not like he’s playing for pennies. Not trying to shade him and I’m not particularly passionate if they extend him or don’t. But over the next few years there’s gonna be a ton of players who give it their all and want more money. Can’t pay everyone everytime they want more.

I agree that the Bills need a positive distraction prior to the beginning of the season...

but is giving a 31 year old Safety a huge raise the best way to do that? Personally, I want to see Poyer play out his final year, then decide.

Let's not get desperate when we don't have to.

Not so sure it makes cap sense to extend him. Eventually some guys will have to walk and safety is a position we have very promising young players at. I also don’t like how he went and got Drew “show me the money” Rosenhaus as his agent cause we definitely can’t afford to make him one of the top paid safeties as I’m sure Drew will demand.

Didn't say give him a "huge" raise.  There should be a middle ground that makes Poyer happy, secures his services beyond this year and provides a positive boost for the room.  Takes a potential distraction and makes it a win.  No need to compromise our future to extend him a year and give him a raise for 2022.

Not sure, but the Bills were already looking for ways to get under the cap and have some funds in reserve for the inevitable injury events.
Now, they unexpectedly have to pay for a second punter (probably a veteran)and I assume still have to pay something to Araiza.

Love Poyer as a person and player, but tough decisions need to be made with the Allen contract hitting.

Poyer is one of them.  He walks after the season.

Singletary is another.  He walks after the season.

Also, I think one of Edmunds and Milano remains.  Either Edmunds walks or Milano is traded.

Hopefully no hard feelings.  We simply can’t pay big money to a Safety, Running Back and both Linebackers.

Hamlin, Benford and Jaquan Johnson (if re-signed) or a draft pick compete for the S spot opposite Hyde.

Moss, Cook and a draft pick or low level FA take over at RB.  Maybe Blackshear if he can stay stashed on our PS this year.

Bernard bumps up to starter and/or we draft a linebacker.

At least that’s my opinion..

Where did he say he wanted a huge raise?

i think he’d re up for 11-12 in gtd 2023 salary.  If he thinks he’s getting multiple years gtd at his age, he’s likely gotten some bad advice.

There won't be a lot of money available THIS year, and as others have pointed out,he will be another year older in 2023 and NOBODY pays a safety tandem like the Bills would be.

I don't believe making POYER happy erases the stink of the Araiza scandal. There is no logical correlation.

Bills need to "examine" THEMSELVES and their process to figure out how tney got to this point.

He's 31 and and has shown a history of extremely physical play. It is more likely than not he peaked or will peak this season, it's also very possible, perhaps even likely, his descent from the mountain will not be slow and graceful. This is a business. I don't find it surprising he was one of the few on outside looking in as far as extensions.

Players do notice whether or not a team pays players that have earned it. That definitely matters to them and their agents and it impacts contracts and negotiations. Poyer has earned it. He should get paid accordingly.
