That is beyond ridiculous. They led the NFL in this last year as well only allowing 2.7 pee game but they have bettered this by a full 2 points. Carolina is second at 1.9. Perhaps the Bills Panthers game will be scoreless in the first quarter? Bills are also: 2nd in Red Zone Defense at 45.8% to Ravens 44.4% 2nd in TOP against at 28:21 to Packers 28:17 3rd in TFL% at 22.4%(Ravens 25.1%, Bengals 23.7%) 3rd in YPC/against at 3.8(Saints 3.1, Bucs 3.7) These numbers are absurd and pretty much across the board great. The only blemish is our sack and pressure percentage is middle of the pack but that may be to QBs trying to get the ball out quickly. Even if you want to make the argument the Bills have done it against bad offenses, they have done it so well their Defensive DVOA(which accounts for opposition offensive strength) is -25.3%, by far the best in the NFL ahead of 2nd place Arizona's -14.9%, which is the same as the difference between 2nd place Arizona and 9th place TB at -4.5% Edited November 16, 2021 by Big Turk 6 13

colin
while the d really has had only one bad outing (tenn obv) the main problem w the team overall is consistency. the on balance play of the bills has been pretty great, even if we have just crushed 6 cans (don't think kc is a can tho). altho we let tenn just walk up and down on us, it really took them making great plays (and getting calls much of the time). we don't seem to get just plain old trucked like we used too (i remember the indy playoff game, just 18 wheel time in the 2nd half). FilthyBeast
This is a very good defense and this secondary is having an elite collective season. But again, you have to consider the type of teams and QB's we've faced this year including multiple QB's that have less than a handful of NFL starts. Also one alarming stat that I still think is an issue is sacks, yes the pressure has been there from a metric standpoint and we are certainly getting turnovers in bunches but in most cases we aren't even touching opposing QB's and think this will be a bigger issue down the stretch especially against better competition like we saw with Tannenhill and the Titans who at the time was the most sacked QB in the league when we played them. 1

ChronicAndKnuckles
The defense is what's going to propel us to playoff surge into the Super bowl. Josh Allen HAS TO take advantage of every turnover and short field they give him. This group of guys is truly special. I really hope they don't waste it. The offense needs to turn up. Let's see what they do next week. Jonathan Taylor is the best back we've faced since Henry. 48 minutes ago, Big Turk said: Total Points: 135 -> 2nd place Patriots 177. I can give you that much, just breathing on a QB seems to draw a flag these days given the current state of officiating. Just thought at this point though with all the rookie and inexperienced QB's we've faced so far we'd have some nice total sack numbers but we are actually falling towards the bottom of the league in that category basically averaging 1-2 sacks per game now.
Mattymafia
To be fair, our schedule has been a cake walk so far. All our wins have been against bad teams (other than the chiefs). That is the one small thing that scares me this week.

Ok. Do no other teams face backup QBs? Do they hold them to ridiculous yardage totals and multiple interceptions? Didn't this same Mike White light up the Bengals for 405 yards and was on pace to light up the Colts before getting hurt? Didn't Davis Mills put up 300+ yards and 3 TDs against the Patriots a week after we made him look clueless? Again...DVOA takes all of this into account and the Bills are by far the best defense in the NFL even once that is factored in. John from Riverside
This is what gives me confidence for the patriot games. BB is who he is and he is going to take SOMETHING away from our offense when we play.....but I think our D is going to keep us in it until our offense figures it out. Malazan
The defense has been great under McDermott except for last year which was an aberration. The one thing his defense lacked... a functional offense that can regularly score 20 points a game and take away options from the opponent. streetkings01
After we win the Super Bowl the defense will get its due. I had a vision that the Bills offense will struggle in the Super Bowl, but do just enough to secure a victory while the defense plays lights out! ChronicAndKnuckles
If this defense can maintain their current production into the final 8 games (and beyond) then they will be the best unit Buffalo has ever fielded and certainly one of the better ones of the past decade in the NFL. I just hope they don't waste it. This group is truly Super Bowl caliber. Edited November 17, 2021 by ChronicAndKnuckles

Great point and I believe they are being coached on it. A hard pressure has a higher percentage of leading to a mistake vrs a QB sack. The associated loss of yardage probably doesn’t translate enough to the penalties possibly received on the sack.

Only a few of them. The bare numbers on points and 3rd downs etc... the other are all averages and percentages. They are not skewed. The main thing that jumps out to me is the Jags are 2nd best in not giving away passing TDs. Explains a little bit the Bills struggles. The teams that have routed them have been able to run it on them, especially in the redzone. Still a shocking result, no question, but that is an interesting them to reflect on.

The Bills defense probably doesn't have the best player in the league at any position, but it's the best overall defense because of the way they play together. Also the Bills don't get lots of sacks, and I certainly wouldn't mind improvement in that area, but they excel even without those sacks. 7 hours ago, GunnerBill said: Only a few of them. Who has routed the Bills? No one. The only time the D faltered was when they wore down against Tennessee, and that was made possible only by the refs allowing three holds against our DBs on Henry's long run. DCofNC
1) they have had a bye week 2) the offenses they have played have been as putrid as it gets in the NFL vs almost every team. 3) they are good, not nearly as dominant as the stats say they are.
