Dion Dawkins activated from COVID list

Based on the timing he probably got covid within a week of receiving his 2nd shot. It takes 2 weeks to be fully vaccinated so it was just really unfortunate timing in his case. I didn't know he was hospitalized, that's crazy. I hope his body can fully recover.

Interesting...any word how far off he was?

He said he was within “a few days” of being considered fully vaccinated

So, was he actually vaccinated or not?

He got both doses of the vaccine. He was within a few days of hitting the 2 week time frame after his  2nd shot when he tested positive.

Feel bad for him and the organization.

We have some evidence from European soccer teams, that a bad case of COVID can impact your abilities for months.  Kai Havertz is a world class player, who joined Chelsea, got COVID bad, and was affected for basically the rest of the season. Took him a long time to regain his full athletic abilities - a 22 year old elite athlete.

Hope Dion comes back soon to full fitness, but also hope he doesn't push himself beyond what his body can do, and that the organization supports him in that

He talked openly and candidly after practice today - a great job by Dion.

He had both shots and it was 1.5 weeks after his second shot that he got ill.

He spent several days in the hospital downtown Buffalo and lost nearly 20 lbs.  Couldn’t eat, drink, and was physically weak.  It took an emotional and psychological toll on him and you could hear in his voice how scary it was for him.

We don’t need any comments for or against things - he said the same thing - to each their own, but he was physically unable to do anything for a good period of time and was so thankful to the trainers who are working to get him back up to speed and strength.

It should be required listening- just to hear how much he cares.  I am sure as soon as One Bills Live is posted - his snippet can be posted, but it was a great listen - especially as he talked about his newborn premie baby at home.

It just baffles me that people can look at world class athletes in their 20s being so heavily impacted by COVID -- Dion Dawkins, Von Miller, Tommy Sweeney come to mind, just to name a few -- and still conclude that it's nothing to worry about. Absolutely mind-boggling.

Glad Dion is the road to recovery. Hopefully, as coach McDermott says, this serves as a teachable moment to others.

Sounds like he was really sick. Four days in the hospital, short of breath, Painful to even move.

this should be required listening.

Especially for his teammates.

Here's the article in case anyone missed it https://www.thescore.com/nfl/news/2192415

Key Points

""It was one of the lowest points I've ever been. I never even thought I could get (to that) low because I'm so animated. That hit hard," Dawkins said. "Even with the mental stuff, it hit every part of me. I was shocked that it can even hit that."

""I don't wanna scare anybody but there was moments that I was like 'I don't know if I'm going to make this.' I was down bad. I could barely move and I was just hurting.""

" He added he lost about 16 pounds during his bout with the virus."
